Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here.
Looks like North Point is the only game in town for this 16-day stretch, and honestly, it’s going to be a wild ride. The first solid window kicks off this Wednesday, July 8th, with a big, long-period groundswell rolling in.
Wednesday, July 8th is a proper standout. We’ve got a solid 12ft swell pulsing in from the WSW with a juicy 16-second period. That’s a lot of energy moving underwater – we’re talking combined swell energy of 5506 (moderate-to-strong). The morning starts with a light cross-on breeze, but by the afternoon the wind goes glassy. Absolutely pristine conditions. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is about average for this time of year. North Point (United States) is a fairly exposed point break, so it’s going to handle this size, but 12ft is proper expert territory – not one for the beginners. The long period means the sets will be more powerful and wait longer between them, making the paddle out a bit easier if you time it right. Crowds are *sometimes* an issue here, so you might have a few others out, but with that quality, it’ll be worth sharing.
Thursday, July 9th is a bit of a letdown. The swell drops to 10ft from the WSW, but the wind swings onshore and stays on all day. It’s messy and the score reflects that. Skip it.
Friday, July 10th is even worse. The swell backs off to 7ft, period drops, and we’ve got a moderate cross-shore breeze kicking up chop. Not your day.
Saturday, July 11th offers a small improvement. The swell is 8ft from the SW at 13 seconds in the morning, but it’s cross-shore again. The afternoon gets a little bigger at 8ft but the wind turns more cross-on. Still not great.
Now, Sunday, July 12th – this is your second standout. The morning is glassy with a 10ft SW swell at a very long 15 seconds. The energy is strong at 4405. It’s an excellent call for experienced surfers. The long period at a point break like North Point is a dream. Get on it early before the wind picks up in the afternoon.
Monday, July 13th is looking similar. Another 12ft SW swell, 16-second period, glassy morning, combined energy of 5637. Another top-notch morning session for the advanced crew.
Tuesday, July 14th brings a lighter 10ft swell, still from the SW, with a 15-second period. The wind turns light cross-offshore in the morning, keeping things clean. That’s another excellent morning window.
From Wednesday, July 15th onwards, things get a bit dicey. Strong winds blow through, and while there’s still decent swell, the conditions are poor or marginal. A big 15ft pulse hits on Saturday, July 18th, but it’s accompanied by onshore winds and a massive energy reading of 11059. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. There’s a few cleaner windows around July 21st and 22nd with smaller 4ft to 7ft swells and offshore breezes, but the size drops off a lot. By July 23rd, a near-gale is blowing, so forget it.
So, to sum it up: your absolute best bets are the glassy mornings of Wednesday July 8th, Sunday July 12th, Monday July 13th, and Tuesday July 14th. After that, it’s a bit of a mixed bag until a small, clean window near the 21st. Keep an eye on the forecasts, because long-range stuff like that 18th pulse could clean up.
Catch ya out there,
Rusty
