The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what North Point has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
It’s a bit of a slow burner this time around. The first few days are a write-off with messy, blown-out conditions and some serious size that’s just too unruly for a good paddle. The real action starts to build from the middle of next week, and the standout window is looking like Wednesday the 22nd of July, with another solid run towards the end of the month and into August.
We’ve got a run of small, weak energy from the 17th with a combined energy reading of 1417, building into a serious pulse. The water is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The first real highlight is Wednesday morning, the 22nd of July. The wind is going glassy, and we’ve got a solid 10ft swell from the southwest with a 13-second period. The combined energy is a strong 3357. It’s going to be clean, but with that size, this is one for the experienced crew only. The swell is pushing straight onshore, but the glassy conditions will make it tidy.
Thursday the 23rd of July morning is also looking promising. The swell drops a touch to 8ft from the southwest, but the wind is a clean cross-offshore from the north-northeast. The energy is still strong at 2065, and it’ll be a lot more user-friendly than Wednesday. Expect some good, clean lines.
Then we have a bit of a lull. The weekend and into the next week sees a mix of lumpy onshore wind and choppy conditions. The real gem is hiding at the end of the forecast. Friday the 31st of July is a beauty. The morning is glassy with a 7ft southwest swell and a combined energy of 3607. The period is 14 seconds, so there’s plenty of push. The afternoon is also glassy, with a 6ft, 18-second groundswell. That long period will really wrap into the point, making for some long, clean walls. Crowds are possible here, so get there early.
Finally, the 1st of August is shaping up to be a big one. Saturday morning has a 13ft swell from the southwest with a 17-second period. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the north-northeast. The combined energy is a massive 10638. This is expert territory only. The afternoon is similar, with a 13ft, 18-second swell and the same clean wind. The energy is 9300. This is going to be a serious, powerful, and long-period groundswell that will be absolutely perfect for the point. It’s a standout, but only for the very experienced.
So, to be honest, the best on offer is the 22nd of July morning for the glassy, powerful waves, and the 31st of July for the consistent, clean groundswell. The 1st of August is a monster, but it’s for the big dogs only.
Rusty.
