Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about North Point. Water temp is about what you’d expect for this time of year, so nothing weird there.
We’ve got a real run of groundswell coming, but the first few days are a write-off. Starting Friday July 10th, it’s blown out with a cross-onshore wind. The swell is already over 8 feet, so it’s big and messy. Not one for the beginners. The energy is moderate to strong (2558), but the quality is junk. Saturday the 11th stays the same story – big, cross-onshore chop. Sunday the 12th sees a window of onshore wind with a 10-foot SW groundswell and a 14-second period, and the combined energy jumps (4601), but it’s still a bit lumpy. By Sunday afternoon the wind picks up and the swell hits 12 feet with a 17-second period – that’s some serious, long-period groundswell. At a point break, that usually means long lines, but the cross-onshore wind is going to mess it up.
Monday the 13th stays big at 12 feet with that 16-second period from the SW. The energy is still pumping (6633), but the wind is light cross-onshore, so you’re dealing with some ripple on the face.
Now, the real standout is Tuesday the 14th. Morning sees 10 feet of SW groundswell with a 15-second period, and the wind swings to a light offshore from the NE. The energy is strong (4462), but it’s the clean conditions that make it. This is going to be excellent for experienced surfers. The crowd factor is listed as “sometimes,” so there’ll be a few out, but with that quality, it’s worth jostling for position.
Wednesday the 15th gets messy again – a fresh breeze from the NNE messes up the 6-foot swell, and Thursday the 16th is back to cross-onshore slop. Friday the 17th is an absolute no-go with a strong breeze and rain.
Looking further out, Saturday the 18th is the second big standout. We’re looking at 16 to 20 feet of SW groundswell, with combined energy going through the roof (12254 to 13798). The wind is cross-shore, so it’s not perfect, but for big-wave chargers, this could be the session of the trip. It’s expert-only territory, no question.
Sunday the 19th looks promising – 13 feet in the morning with a light cross-offshore breeze, giving clean conditions for the experienced crew. Then by afternoon, it’s glassy with 10 feet on offer.
After that, the swell drops off. Monday the 20th has a smaller, clean 7 feet, but by Tuesday the 21st, it’s back to choppy onshores. We get another clean pocket on Wednesday the 22nd morning with a 10-foot WSW groundswell and light cross-offshore wind (3835 energy), and then again on Friday the 24th morning with 7 feet and clean conditions.
Finally, Saturday the 25th – that’s July 25th – ends the forecast period with a bang: 12 feet of SW groundswell, a 17-second period, and a perfect light offshore from the NE. The energy is strong (6619), and it’s rated excellent for experienced surfers. That’s a long-range call, so there’s still some uncertainty, but it’s a proper gem.
Summing it up: Tuesday the 14th and Saturday the 18th are your two true standouts. The 14th for quality with offshore winds, the 18th for pure power. If you’re not an expert, give the 18th a miss.
Rusty.
