The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here again, talking about North Point.
We’ve got a big run of solid swell on the charts, but you’re gonna have to wait for the right window. The main pulse is a long-period SW groundswell, running 16 seconds, and the combined energy is up there at 9,944 units – that’s a strong, powerful ocean. Water temp is about 66°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.
Wednesday the 19th kicks it off with 15-foot waves, but the onshore wind and iffy tide mean it’s going to be messy. Thursday the 20th is similar – 11-12 foot swell, but cross-onshore. Skip those.
Friday morning the 21st is the star of the show. We’ve got a clean 11-foot SW swell, a 14-second period, and dead calm winds – glassy as a mirror. This is for advanced surfers only, with real quality. You might share it with a few others, but it won't be a circus.
Friday afternoon and Saturday get choppy again. Sunday the 23rd is a write-off – 25 km/h southerlies are going to ruin it.
Monday morning the 24th shapes up nicely. A clean 10-foot SW swell with a light cross-offshore breeze. That’s a good session for the experienced crew.
The middle of the run gets small on Tuesday the 25th – 3-5 foot, with moderate cross-shore wind. Then Wednesday the 26th, another big 15-foot pulse shows up but it comes with rain and a cross-onshore wind. That’s a high-energy mess, and honestly, I’d say it’s more for the kite surfers.
Friday morning the 28th is another clean window: 7-foot SW swell with a light cross-offshore breeze. Good stuff.
End of the month and into September, we keep seeing 10-foot+ pulses, but the wind keeps turning cross-shore or cross-on, so it’s mostly average. One to note is Wednesday morning the 2nd of September: clean, 10-foot SW swell with a light offshore easterly. That’s a proper dawn patrol for the experts.
After that, it’s just rinse and repeat with 10-12 foot swell and variable winds. There are no huge, perfect windows in that second week, just moments of clarity.
The call: If you want the best, it’s Friday morning the 21st. Monday the 24th morning and Friday the 28th morning are solid backups. Stay on it.
