Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
We’re looking at a solid run of Southern Ocean groundswell at North Point over the next couple of weeks, but it’s a real game of patience. The wind is going to be the main character here, and for a lot of the first week, it’s just not playing nice. The water temp is sitting at 67°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real surf of the period kicks off on Friday the 10th, but honestly, it’s a write-off. There’s a 6ft SW swell with a 12 mph cross-on wind, and the sea state is choppy and messy. The combined energy is moderate (1328), but it’s not worth paddling out for. Saturday and Sunday (11th and 12th) see the swell building fast—by Sunday afternoon we’re looking at 12ft on a 17-second period, which is a serious, long-period groundswell from the SW. The energy is getting very strong (7676), but the wind is still cross-on, so it’s going to be a bumpy, lumpy mess. This is expert-only territory, and even then, it’s not going to be fun.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The standout window is Tuesday the 14th. Morning brings a 10ft SW swell, 15-second period, with a light NE offshore breeze. That’s clean. The afternoon goes glassy with zero wind. This is your best bet by far in the first week—excellent, clean surf at North Point, but it’s a big, powerful wave for experienced surfers only. The energy is moderate to strong (4292 in the morning). This is the one to circle.
After that, the wind gets ugly again. Wednesday the 15th sees a 19 mph N cross-off wind, which is clean but the swell is already dropping. By Thursday the 16th, we’re into a fresh to strong cross-shore mess with a new WSW swell, and from there it’s a long stretch of onshore, lumpy, and poor conditions. Saturday the 18th is a complete no-go with 16ft swell and 31 mph onshore wind—that’s for kite surfers, not paddle surfers.
The next glimmer of hope doesn’t come until Sunday the 19th, where we’ve got a 16ft SW swell with a 14-second period, and the wind is only a gentle cross-on. It’s still big and messy, but it’s a marked improvement. The energy is extreme (9582). This is for the experts only, and honestly, it’s still a gamble.
The second week gets a little more promising if you’re patient. The next real standout is Thursday the 23rd, with a 12ft SW swell, 13-second period, and a light NNE cross-off wind. Clean, powerful, and for experienced surfers. The energy is moderate (3403). Friday the 24th is also solid with a 12ft WSW swell and a light N cross-off in the morning. These are your best bets in the second week, but remember, it’s a long-range forecast, so keep an eye on it.
Overall, North Point is a consistent spot that’s going to keep pumping, but the wind is going to ruin more than half the run. The absolute standout is Tuesday the 14th—get on it.
Rusty.
