Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into what North Point is looking like for the next couple of weeks. There’s a lot of juice in the water, but you have to pick your battles.
The action kicks off on Sunday, July 12th. We’ve got a solid southwest groundswell running, about 10 feet with a period of 14 to 17 seconds – that’s proper long-period energy, meaning lots of power. The combined wave energy is high, running between 4762 and 8192 (moderate to strong). The problem is a cross-onshore breeze, which is roughing up the surface. The size is there, but it’s not clean. This is expert-only territory at this height.
Water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
Monday, July 13th, the swell holds around 11-12 feet, still from the southwest, with that long period. Combined energy is still high at 6285. Wind is still cross-onshore and light, so it stays bumpy.
The first real standout is Tuesday, July 14th. The swell drops a bit to 10 feet, period stays long at 14-15 seconds, and combined energy eases to between 3372 and 3565 (moderate). The wind turns light cross-offshore from the NE, and the forecast says clean, lined-up waves. If you’re an advanced surfer, this is your day. North Point will be offering up some serious, well-defined lines.
Wednesday, July 15th, and Thursday, July 16th are a mess. Strong winds and rain ruin the surface. The wave energy is still there, but it’s lumpy and messy. More of a kite-surfing day than a paddle session.
From Friday, July 17th, through Monday, July 20th, it’s a mixed bag. Sunday, July 19th morning catches a glassy window with a big 13-foot SW groundswell (period 14 seconds, combined energy 5336). That’s huge and clean. Monday, July 20th also offers clean 10-foot waves with a moderate offshore wind.
The absolute gem of the whole run is Wednesday, July 22nd afternoon. We’re talking a massive 18-foot swell out of the southwest, period of 16 seconds, and a combined energy of 15325 (very strong). The wind is a gentle offshore from the ENE. This is exceptional, world-class surf, but only for experts. It will be steep, powerful, and clean. This is the best on offer, no question.
After that, from Thursday, July 23rd, everything blows out. Strong onshore winds and rain hammer the coast for a solid week, right up to July 27th. Swells stay huge, between 13 and 20 feet, but it’s a complete washout for quality surfing.
Your best bets: Tuesday, July 14th for a solid, clean session, and the absolute king is Wednesday, July 22nd afternoon. The rest is a write-off after that.
Rusty.
