Right, look, I'm not gonna lie, the first week of this outlook is a bit of a battle for North Point. We've got a solid run of swell coming through, but the wind is gonna be a right pain for most of it. The water is sitting at about 67°, which is a touch warmer than we'd normally expect for this time of year, a nice little anomaly.

Let's break it down. Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are a write-off. We're looking at swell heights of 10ft to 12ft from the southwest, with a long period of 14 to 17 seconds, so there's plenty of energy in the water (combined energy readings of 4762 to 8192). But it's all cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. Not worth the paddle out.

Tuesday the 14th is the first real window. The swell drops a touch to 10ft, still from the southwest, but the wind swings around to a light northeast, turning it cross-offshore. The report says "clean," and with a period of 14 to 15 seconds, you'll get some proper groundswell lines. It's still a big wave at 10ft, so this is for the experienced crew only. A good day, but not a standout.

Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are a mess again. The wind gets strong, with gusts up to 25 mph, and the swell gets even bigger, hitting 12ft on the Thursday. It's a no-go zone.

Friday the 17th is a write-off, with a risk of thunderstorms and a messy 12ft swell. Saturday the 18th is a joke. The swell is predicted to be massive at 20ft to 21ft from the WSW, with a very long period of 17 seconds and combined energy readings over 20,000. That's not surfable, it's a survival mission. The file even says it's too big for the break. Saturday the 19th is still with a big, onshore 13ft swell.

Now, here's the standout. Monday the 20th. The swell settles to a clean 8ft from the southwest, with an 11-second period. But the wind? Glassy. A light easterly, "slight air" they call it. The report says "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers." It's not the biggest swell of the window, but with glassy conditions, this is the session to aim for. It's a point break, so it'll handle that medium-period swell nicely for a clean, long ride. The morning will be the pick.

After that, the rest of the week is a bit of a mixed bag. Tuesday the 21st is small and marginal. Wednesday the 22nd is small with a light cross-offshore breeze in the afternoon, which might be okay for a longboard if you're desperate.

Then we get a promising but less certain long-range call. Thursday the 23rd of July. The swell jumps back up to a powerful 15ft to 16ft from the southwest, with a very long period of 17 to 18 seconds. The combined energy is massive at over 13,000. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the north-northeast, so it will be clean. This is a big, serious swell for experts only. The potential is huge, but it's a week and a half away, so keep an eye on it.

The following weekend, the 24th and 25th, looks like the wind messes it up again with onshore conditions. The 27th of July shows another big, clean swell (13ft to 15ft) with lighter winds, so that's another one to watch further out, but it's a long way off.

So, to sum it up: the first week is mostly a fight with the wind. The real standout is Monday the 20th of July, with glassy conditions and a solid 8ft southwest swell. The long-range call for Thursday the 23rd of July is for the big dogs, with a massive, clean groundswell. Get your skates on for the 20th.

Rusty.
