Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, grab your board and listen up. Rusty here, and I've been staring at the charts for our stretch of coast, and there's some serious groundswell coming our way. We're talking a classic run of solid SW swell that's going to have us all talking.
The main event is North Point. This is a world-class point break, and it's about to fire. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is standard for this time of year, so just a standard rashie or a thin spring suit will do ya.
We've got a bit of a lull at the very start, but from Tuesday morning, July 7th, the swell kicks in hard. It’s pumping a solid 12 ft of SW groundswell with a long 16-second period, and the combined energy is massive at 6014. It's a lot of water moving. That morning is the one to chase, with a light ESE cross-off breeze keeping the lines clean. This is excellent surf, but at that size with that much power, it's strictly for the advanced crew. The crowd here can be a problem sometimes, so get out early.
Tuesday afternoon stays clean but the wind shifts, making it a bit more mediocre. Wednesday morning is clean again with a light NNW cross-off, but the forecast says the conditions are marginal – likely a tide issue, so check your local charts. Thursday looks messy with rain and onshore winds, so skip it.
The standouts for the whole period? You've got to lock in the morning sessions from Saturday the 11th through Tuesday the 14th.
- Saturday July 11th morning: 8 ft SW groundswell (14 secs) with a light SE cross-off. Clean, powerful, and a score that says excellent for experienced surfers.
- Sunday July 12th morning: A similar setup, 8 ft SW at 14 secs, light SE breeze. The energy is building, 3832 on the meter.
- Monday July 13th morning: Boom. Back to the big stuff, 12 ft SW at 16 secs, light SE wind and glassy conditions. An absolute classic.
- Tuesday July 14th: This is the crown jewel, overall. We get two glassy sessions, morning and afternoon. The swell is a solid 10 ft, period is over 14 seconds, and the wind has gone glassy from the ENE and then the NNE. Two windows of perfect, windless conditions. Get on that.
For the second week, the power stays, but the wind gets tricky. Wednesday July 15th is clean with a strong cross-off wind, but it's a fresh breeze, making it "clean" but bumpy. That's a small window for the die-hards. Thursday the 16th is a write-off with poor conditions.
Then things get very interesting for July 17th, a Friday. We see the biggest swell of the run – 16 ft SW at 16 seconds in the morning, with energy hitting 11545. That is an absolute bomb, but the wind is a cross-onshore (12 mph). It's powerful and choppy. This is only for experts, and honestly, with that much wind and swell at a point, it's going to be a battle. Could be a better day for the kite crew.
The weekend of the 18th and 19th is messy with strong, messy winds, so give it a miss. Things calm down again for the final Monday and Tuesday (July 20th & 21st) with clean cross-off winds and smaller, more manageable 8 ft SW swell.
So there you have it. The first week is the story. Tuesday July 14th is the absolute standout – those two glassy morning and afternoon sessions at North Point are the ones to cancel work for.
Stay safe, paddle hard.
