The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s get down to it for the next couple of weeks at North Point. It’s a mixed bag, but there’s some proper juice in the forecast if you play it smart.
The opening days are rough. August 18th has a solid 15ft SW groundswell (16s) rolling in, but a cross-on wind and chop make it a battle. The afternoon is lumpy. Not the one.
August 19th and 20th are cleaner but still marginal – swell stays around 13-15ft with light onshore winds. Surfable, but you’ll be chasing the good ones.
Now, Friday morning August 21st. Glassy, zero wind, and a 12ft SW groundswell (14s). This is where it comes alive. The water is 67°, which is nearly two degrees warmer than usual – a nice surprise. For experienced surfers, that's the cleanest first-week window.
Saturday morning August 22nd is the same – flat calm, 10ft SW (16s). Another clean powerhouse. The afternoon gets a cross-on breeze, so be there early.
The 23rd and 24th are poor – wind and messing around. The 25th blows up with a big 16ft SW (12s) in the afternoon and strong cross-onshore. Not a paddling day.
The 26th and 27th are marginal again, with onshores and size dropping to around 7ft.
But the second week starts strong. Friday morning August 28th – a lovely 6ft WSW groundswell (19s) with a light offshore ENE breeze. That long period is what this point craves. A real standout.
Saturday morning August 29th is the other one – 10ft WSW (16s) with a moderate offshore NE wind. Big, clean, and powerful. If you only pick two days, make it the 28th and 29th.
Sunday the 30th gets bigger – up to 13ft with offshore winds, exceptional for experts but right on the edge. Monday August 31st jumps to a massive 18ft with a cross-on wind – that’s serious business.
The first week of September keeps the size – around 15ft with light winds. Lots of water moving.
So, the early days are a write-off, but from the 21st, there are windows. The real standouts are Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th. Crowds are only sometimes, so you might get some space. This spot is fairly consistent, so even the poor runs don’t last long.
Rusty out.
