The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – this is a tough one for the region. We're looking at a 16-day stretch that's pretty much a write-off for any decent surf, so keep your expectations on the floor.

The first real chance of anything rideable is a tiny, fleeting window on Friday morning, August 7th. Maria's (Rincon) is the only spot in the game, and it's about as inconsistent as they come. That morning, we've got a weak 3ft NE swell pushing in, but it's short-period stuff at 8 seconds, so it's not carrying much punch. The combined energy is weak (103), and while the wind is a clean cross-offshore, it's just not enough to turn this into a proper session. The water is a warm 84°, which is about average for this time of year, but that's the only highlight.

From there, the outlook is grim. For the rest of the first week and into the second, we're looking at day after day of tiny, weak swells, or flat spells. The wind flips around a lot, but it's either glassy with no waves or cross-shore on the rare occasion there's a bump. The highest energy we see is a 168 on the morning of Sunday, August 16th, with a 5ft NE swell, but it's still a poor look with no real quality. Long story short, there's no standout session, no day to circle on the calendar. It's a blank run, and frankly, for this area, that's not unusual. Keep the board waxed, but don't be surprised if you're just staring at flat water.
