Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hossegor - La Graviere over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a proper look at what Hossegor - La Graviere has got cooking for us over the next couple of weeks. I'll be straight with you – it's a bit of a slow burner.
Right now, the pattern is dominated by weak, short-period windswell and often onshore winds. The first week is pretty lacklustre. We start on Wednesday the 8th with a tiny, messy 2ft swell from the WNW with a period of only 5 seconds, blown out by a WNW wind. The combined energy is a weak 44, and it just looks poor. This theme continues right through the first week. There are a few moments, like Friday the 10th afternoon when the wind goes glassy on a 2ft swell (85 energy), and Saturday the 11th morning with a clean, cross-offshore breeze on a similar sized swell (117 energy). Don't get too excited though – these are still tiny, ordinary waves, not worth paddling out for.
There’s a noticeable gap of poor conditions from the 13th through to the 17th. The swell tries to pick up slightly, but the wind is almost always on it, ruining any quality. For example, the 14th has a tiny 0.7ft swell, and the 15th is glassy but on a pathetic 1ft wave.
The real potential finally shows up down the track. We see a building swell on the 17th, jumping from 4ft in the morning to 6ft by the afternoon (energy spiking to 465). The combined swell energy is moderate to strong, but the wind is onshore from the WNW both sessions, so the surf will be poor quality and messy. A true standout appears on Saturday the 18th morning. The wind turns offshore from the East at a light 6 mph, cleaning up a 3ft swell from the WNW. The period is a short 7 seconds, so it won't have a lot of punch, but with clean conditions and 91 energy, this looks like the best opportunity of the whole 16 days for a fun, manageable session. This spot is exposed to the west and is fairly consistent, so it can deliver.
Late in the run, around Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd, the swell gets bigger – 6ft to 7ft from the WNW (energy climbing to 515). That's getting into advanced territory, but the wind is still onshore from the WNW, so it's going to be a raw, blown-out power session. Might be one for the tow-in crew or the kamikazes, not for a clean ride.
To sum it up: the first week is a write-off for decent surf. The clear standout is the morning of Saturday the 18th with clean offshore winds on a small but surfable swell. Later in the second week there's more size, but the wind looks messy. Keep your eye on that 18th.
Stay frothing.
