The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for La Graviere.
Honestly, this is a bleak run for the next couple of weeks. The first surf recommendation doesn’t show up until Sunday, 26th July, and even then it’s a mixed bag. Before that, we’re looking at a solid 13-day stretch of flat, choppy, or onshore junk. Tuesday morning the 14th is glassy but with a tiny 1.0ft swell, and that’s just not enough to paddle for. The water temperature is a notable 75°, which is 7° warmer than usual for this time of year – very unusual, so you’ll be in boardies or a spring suit for sure.
The only real glimmer of hope comes at the very end of the forecast. Sunday morning, 26th July, is the standout. Hossegor - La Graviere is looking at a clean 4ft swell from the WNW with a period of 11 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, and with the wind glassy from the ENE, it’s going to be clean. The combined energy reads 438, that’s strong, punchy power. It’s a sandbar, so a long-period swell like this can be a bit straight, but with that glassy wind, it’ll hold shape. Keep in mind, this is an advanced wave, and at 4ft it’s manageable for experienced surfers, but it won’t be a beginner’s session. Crowds are possible at La Graviere, so get out early.
Monday morning the 27th pushes up to 5ft from the WNW, but it’s onshore from the W at 9 mph, so it’ll be a messy close-out. Not worth it.
Tuesday morning the 28th is another solid option. A 5ft WNW swell, same 9-second period, and glassy wind from the W. That’s clean, punchy, and again, the combined energy is 328 – strong. It’s a touch smaller than the 26th, but still a good wave for the experienced crew. The afternoon will get cross-onshore, so the morning is the window.
So, to wrap it up: the 26th is your best bet, with the 28th morning as a backup. The rest is a long, flat drought. Hang in there, it’ll come good.
Rusty.
