Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's cookin' in the water. To be straight with you, we're in for a pretty flat and frustrating stretch for the next couple of weeks. The first recommendation for a paddle doesn't show up until Saturday, 11 July, so we have a solid gap of a few days with nothing worthwhile.
Right off the bat, we're looking at Hossegor - La Graviere. The water temp is sitting at 73°F, which is about 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a pretty big deal, feels more like a late summer swim than July. But don't get too excited, the waves are puny.
The first real sniff of something surfable comes on Saturday morning, 11 July. We've got a 2ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a short period of 9 seconds. The energy is moderate at best (106), but the real story here is that offshore wind from the ESE. It's light, but it's clean. It'll be small and weak, but you can get a few grovelly ones if you're keen.
Then on Sunday morning, 12 July, we get another tiny window. Swell is still only 2ft from the NW with a period of 10 seconds and moderate energy (102). The standout here is the absolute glassy conditions. A dead calm, flat ocean with a light SW breeze – just a 3 mph glass-off. It’s as clean as it gets, but again, you’ll be working hard for small nuggets.
Later on, Wednesday morning, 22 July, things get a little interesting. It’s still not big, with a 3ft swell from the NW and a short 6-second period, but the wind is glassy again from the SE. The combined energy is only 64, so it's weak, but these clean conditions might just make it worth a look for the longboard or a funboard.
That’s about it, really. This is a tough run of small surf. The swell direction coming out of the WNW/NW is okay for La Graviere’s exposed sandbar setup, but the size just isn't there for anything solid. Keep an eye on it though.
Rusty.
