Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hossegor - La Graviere over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty coming to you from the coast. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks around Hossegor.
To be straight with you, the surf here is gonna be a real mixed bag, and there’s a long, flat spell right at the start. We’re looking at a gap of nearly a week from now where there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the winds are messy, and the energy is just not there. For a spot like La Graviere, a fairly consistent sandbar, this feels like a real letdown. It won't stay this poor forever, but right now it's a waiting game.
The first sign of life we see will be on Friday the 10th, in the afternoon. It’s only small, with the swell coming from the WNW at about 3 ft and a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 136. But here’s the kicker – the wind goes glassy, dead calm. That’s a major positive. It’ll be clean, but the waves will be weak, ordinary. Worth a look if you’re desperate, but don’t expect much.
Saturday the 11th morning is actually the standout of this whole outlook. The wind swings to a light offshore from the East at 6 mph. The swell is still a modest 2 ft from the WNW, with a period of 9 seconds and a moderate energy reading (105). It’s small but clean, and that offshore wind will make it the best it’s going to get for a while. It’s not a classic La Graviere day, but for the conditions on offer, this is your pick. For the Hossegor crew, we’ll take what we can get.
After that, it’s back to ordinary. A few glassy mornings here and there, like Monday the 13th morning and Friday the 17th morning, but the swell just doesn’t have the grunt, with short periods under 8 seconds and very low energy.
Now, looking ahead into the second week, there’s a pulse of bigger swell but with a major caveat. Around Saturday the 18th afternoon and into Sunday the 19th, the swell jumps up to 6-7 ft from the WNW, with a short period of just 8 seconds. The energy climbs into the strong range (498-515). But the wind is cross-onshore and there’s rain in the forecast. That combo will make it a choppy, bumpy mess. For a beach break, that’s no good for the surfer, but a kite surfer would be having a field day.
The wind stays onshore and strong through Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, with swell hovering around 6-7 ft. This is big enough to be tricky, and with onshore winds turning it to slop, it’s not for anyone. The energy values are very high (620-818), but the quality is zero.
The long-range window on Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd shows the swell dropping back down to around 4 ft or less, with cleaner winds but still cross-onshore. It’s a return to small, ordinary waves to wrap things up.
So to sum it up: the best bet is the clean, offshore morning on Saturday the 11th. It’s not big, but the wind makes it the only real window we’ve got. Keep an eye on the glassy morning on Friday the 10th afternoon as well. The rest is either flat, onshore junk, or just too ordinary to get excited about.
Rusty.
