The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, looking ahead at the Hossegor - La Graviere stretch.
First off, the water temperature is sitting at a toasty 76°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a real treat.
We’ve got a proper blank run to kick things off. The first bit of actionable surf doesn't show up until Saturday morning, the 22nd of August. Before that, it’s just poor conditions.
Saturday the 22nd is where it gets interesting. The morning session at La Graviere is *the* standout. We’ve got a 4ft NW swell with that clean, offshore wind from the East. It’s a gentle breeze, so the surface will be smooth. The wave energy is moderate (211), but with the wind working for us, it’ll be lined up and fun. This is the pick of the first week.
The swell drops right off after that, fading into tiny surf from Sunday the 23rd through to Wednesday the 27th. The wind stays messy for the most part, with a few glassy moments on Wednesday the 26th morning (3ft WNW) that are surfable, but nothing to write home about.
Then we get a proper pulse of energy. Starting Thursday the 27th, the swell jumps. Thursday morning shows a 5ft WNW cross-onshore, and by the afternoon it’s a stormy 10ft onshore mess with very strong energy (1231). That’s expert territory only, and with onshore wind, it’s not clean. Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th keep the size going, but the wind stays cross-onshore or onshore, keeping quality low.
The real second highlight arrives Sunday the 30th. Sunday morning is clean again with a light offshore Easterly wind and a 5ft WNW swell (338 moderate energy). It’s a decent size for the bank. Then Monday the 31st morning is absolute magic: glassy conditions, a 5ft WNW swell (286 moderate energy). That’s a session where you paddle out and just feel the stillness on the water. That Monday morning is a serious contender for the best wave of the whole outlook.
The first week of September gets messy again, with onshore winds and solid but messy swell, and then on Friday the 4th we get another early-morning glassy window with a 6ft WNW swell (477 moderate energy). That’s a clean wave for those who can sneak out early.
All in all, the standout windows are the mornings of Saturday the 22nd, Sunday the 30th, and Monday the 31st. Keep your eyes on those.
Rusty.
