Alright, let me be straight with you. I’ve had a good look at what’s coming up for our stretch of coast, and to be honest, it’s a pretty grim run for the next week and a half. Most of what’s on offer is small, chopped up, or blown out. There are a couple of windows where things clean up a bit, but you’re gonna have to be patient. The standout window is looking like Wednesday the 22nd of July, early. That’s your best shot, but let’s walk through it day by day.

Right now, starting Sunday the 12th of July, it’s a write-off. Kijkduin’s got a weak 2ft northerly swell at a short 5 seconds, but it’s coming in with a 12 mph cross-shore wind, leaving a lumpy cross-chop. Wave energy is a measly 17 – don’t even bother paddling out. Sunday afternoon is worse: the wind picks up to 22 mph from the NNE, cross-on, and the sea state is just nasty.

Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are more of the same. Small 2ft to 4ft swell, short period, and mostly cross-onshore winds keeping things choppy. There’s a brief clean-up on Tuesday morning with a cross-off breeze, but the swell is only 2ft with a combined energy of 24. That’s barely enough to get a pop. Wednesday morning the 15th is clean again, wind light and cross-off, but the swell drops to 2ft and energy is just 14. Not worth wetting a suit.

Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are flat with clean conditions but microscopic swells – 1ft to 1ft, energy in the single digits. You’d be better off having a sleep in. Then from Saturday the 18th through to Monday the 20th, we’ve got tiny windswells and light, messy winds. It’s a dead zone.

Tuesday the 21st of July shows a bump: 3ft to 4ft from the NNW, but it’s all cross-onshore or onshore, choppy. The afternoon session does have a combined energy of 121, which is moderate, but the onshore wind ruins any real quality.

Now, here’s your window. Wednesday the 22nd of July, early morning. Kijkduin gets a 7ft swell from the NNW, period of 7 seconds, and combined energy of 426 – that’s strong wave energy. And the kicker: the wind is light from the ENE at 6 mph, cross-off, clean as a whistle. This is the standout of the whole 16-day outlook. That 7ft is going to be pushing into the beach with proper push, but with a short 7-second period, it’ll be a bit walled and dumpy. For experienced intermediates it’ll be fun, but it’s too big for beginners – over 5ft. The clean light wind is a massive positive. Crowds are possible at Kijkduin, so get there early if you want a piece of that. The water temp is about average for this time of year.

Wednesday afternoon, the wind swings more NNE and goes cross-shore at 12 mph, lumping it up. The swell’s still solid at 6ft but the quality drops right off.

Thursday the 23rd of July brings a smaller 5ft to 4ft NNW swell, but it’s onshore from the NNW, so that window is blown out. Clean conditions? Gone.

Friday the 24th to Saturday the 25th sees the swell fade to 3ft and then 2ft, with cross-onshore winds from the west and north. Choppy and small – not worth the walk.

Sunday the 26th of July morning brings a surprise: clean cross-off winds from the east at 12 mph, and a 4ft swell from the west, 5-second period, energy of 109 (moderate). It’s clean, but that short period means it’s weak and lumpy. Not terrible, but not the standout. Sunday afternoon gets a 6ft westerly swell, 6-second period, energy of 207, and still clean with a 9 mph offshore from the ESE. That’s a solid option, but the period is short and the swell direction is west – not the optimum NNW we want for Kijkduin. It’s marginal.

Monday the 27th of July is a washout. Strong 25 mph cross-shore winds from the SW, messy cross-chop, and a 4ft WNW swell – just poor conditions all round.

So to sum it up: there’s a long, dry gap from now until Tuesday the 21st with basically nothing rideable. Then a true standout on Wednesday 22 July morning with clean 7ft NNW swell and glassy offshore wind. That’s your best day. Sunday the 26th afternoon has a clean but short-period option as a backup, but Wednesday morning is the one to circle on the calendar.

Keep your eyes on the forecasts, but this one looks pretty locked in for that mid-week window.
