Inamuragasaki Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s coming down the line for Inamuragasaki. The next week and a bit is a tough one, but there’s a genuine corker of a session hiding right at the end of the first week if you’ve got the skills for it. The water is sitting at a balmy 81°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – you won’t need a thick suit, that’s for sure.

The whole run starts off flat and grim. Tuesday the 15th has a tiny 2ft SE swell with a short 8 second period, and the combined energy is just a weak 39. Heavy rain on the morning session doesn't help. It improves slightly Tuesday afternoon, with a clean 3ft SSE swell and a nice offshore N wind, but it’s still a very ordinary wave. That's the best it gets for a while, because from Wednesday the 16th right through to Friday the 19th of September, it’s just a write-off. Stubborn NNE winds and tiny, gutless swell mean you can leave the board at home. There’s a bit of life on Saturday the 20th with a cleaner 4ft SE swell and a solid N offshore, but the combined energy is still only moderate (498) and the quality is marginal.

Sunday the 21st is where things get interesting, but not for the faint-hearted. We’ve got a 6ft swell in the morning rising to 7ft in the afternoon from the S, with a long period of 13-14 seconds. The combined energy jumps into the strong range (1183-1599). The wind is a fresh offshore from the N, so it’ll be clean. But at 7ft, this is getting solid and is really only for competent surfers.

Then we hit the standout. Tuesday the 22nd of September. This is the one to mark in your calendar. The morning drops an 8ft SSW groundswell at a long 14 seconds, and the combined energy is a very strong 2815. That’s a powerful, chunky swell. Then the afternoon... that’s the real deal. The swell jumps to 16ft from the S, still with a 14-second period, and the combined energy absolutely hammers at a massive 9238. The wind goes light at only 6 mph from the N. This is exceptional, world-class surf, but it is strictly for experts only – 16ft is a huge, serious wave. This is the kind of day you only get a couple of times a year at Inamuragasaki.

After that, it drops off fast. Wednesday the 23rd sees a messy 4ft SSE swell with a cross-on wind, and from Thursday the 24th through to Monday the 28th, it’s back to small, poor conditions with combined energy sticking under 500. There’s a brief, promising look on Sunday the 27th morning with a glassy 3ft S swell and 13 second period (combined energy 268), but the quality is just listed as good, not a standout. The final two days of September, the 29th and 30th, offer consistent 4ft to 5ft SSW groundswell with a long 14-second period, but the cross-off winds and moderate energy (718-1032) mean you could get a few, but it’s a marginal, work-your-butt-off kind of session.

Bottom line: if you’re an expert surfer and you can handle big, powerful waves, do not miss Tuesday the 22nd of September. It’s the clear winner. For everyone else, it’s a pretty barren 16 days.
