Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
We’ve got a solid run of surf coming up at Hiliduha. This is a reef break, so it’s one for the advanced crew only. The water temp is sitting at about 86°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so nothing weird going on there. The combined energy is moderate to strong, sitting between 522 and 1264, so there’s a fair bit of push behind these swells.
The action kicks off this Friday, 3rd of July. Morning starts with a 4 ft swell from the SW, period at 16 seconds – that’s proper groundswell, long lines. Wind is glassy from the north at 3 mph, so it’s going to be clean. Energy is 824. That’s the start of a nice stretch.
Saturday the 4th sees similar conditions, with 3 ft to 4 ft SW and S swells, periods 12 to 15 seconds. Glassy winds again, both morning and afternoon. Clean. Sunday the 5th keeps it going – 4 ft from the SSW, period 16 seconds, glassy all day. Energy 856. This whole first weekend is good.
Monday the 6th drops slightly to 3 ft to 3 ft, but it’s still clean. The standout really builds from Wednesday the 8th. Wednesday afternoon has a 5 ft SSW swell with a 15-second period. Wind is glassy from the SSW. Energy jumps to 1264. That’s excellent for experienced surfers – a bit too much for beginners at over 5 ft.
Thursday the 9th looks a bit messier. The swell holds at 5 ft, but wind goes cross-shore, and the wave comment calls it marginal. Not the best day.
Friday the 10th morning looks good again – 4 ft SSW, glassy, energy 819. Afternoon gets onshore, though, so you’ll want to be out early.
Saturday the 11th morning is glassy again with 4 ft SW. Afternoon turns onshore.
Sunday the 12th drops off to small 2 ft to 3 ft, but the morning is glassy and calm. Energy down to 276. A bit of a lull.
Monday the 13th stays small and a bit cross-on. Nothing special.
Now here’s the next real standout: Tuesday morning on the 14th of July. Glassy calm, 3 ft, but clean. Then the real fire comes on the 16th. Thursday, 16th of July, morning has 4 ft SW swell with a period of 17 seconds – that’s very long period groundswell. Energy 1152. Wind glassy. Excellent for experts. That afternoon, 5 ft SW, same period, clean cross-off. This is as good as it gets for the forecast.
Then Friday the 17th keeps the quality high – 5 ft SW, 16-second period, glassy morning, clean afternoon. Energy over 1100. This is another prime window for advanced surfers.
By Saturday the 18th, it’s easing back to 5 ft SW, but the wind goes cross in the afternoon, so morning is the call.
Overall, the best bets are the afternoons of Wednesday 8th July, and all of Thursday 16th July and Friday 17th July. Clean, solid SW groundswell, and glassy or light offshore winds. Crowds are listed as possible, so don’t expect to have it to yourself, but with conditions like this, it’s worth it.
Stay safe out there, and respect the reef.
Rusty.
