The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty.
Alright, let's break down the surf for Hilisataro. This is an advanced reef set-up, and we've got a solid run of waves coming in over the next couple of weeks. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothin' wild.
The first real action is right now, on Tuesday the 14th of July. We've got a clean, glassy morning with a 3ft SSW swell rolling in at a very long 18 seconds. That's proper groundswell, and the energy is moderate. It's a touch on the small side, but the conditions are perfect. That glassy wind is a major plus, meaning the waves will be clean and inviting. The afternoon sees it bump up to 4ft from the SW, still glassy, with stronger energy. This is a great start.
Wednesday the 15th of July is a standout. The morning brings a 5ft SSW swell with a 16-second period and strong energy. The wind is glassy from the NE. That's a beautiful combo for an advanced reef: clean, powerful, and long-period lines. The afternoon holds up with a 5ft swell, still glassy. This is the best on offer in the first week.
Thursday the 16th of July sees the swell back off, and the wind shifts to a light cross-onshore, so it's not as clean. The quality drops off for a few days through until Sunday the 19th of July, with the swell dropping to around 4ft and the period shortening. There are still some glassy windows, like Saturday morning and Sunday morning, but the energy is weaker.
Then, on Monday the 20th of July, we get another highlight. This is a promising one a week out. The morning sees a 5ft SSW swell with a long 17-second period, and the energy is very strong. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the north, which is great for this reef. The afternoon is even better, with a 6ft SSW swell, glassy wind, and very strong energy. This is solid, expert-level surf. The swell is over 5ft, so it's for the experienced crew only.
After that, the swell fades through the rest of the week, with a few clean mornings on the 23rd and 24th of July, but the energy is low. We get a bit of a pulse around the 25th and 26th of July, with 4ft to 4ft SW swells and glassy mornings, but the consistency is a bit mixed. The standout of the second week looks to be Monday the 27th of July, with a 3ft glassy morning, but the real treat is the afternoon: a 2ft SW swell with an extremely long 22-second period. That's a very long period groundswell, and the energy is solid. That kind of period will wrap beautifully into the reef, offering long, clean lines despite the smaller size. The 28th of July also shows promise with a 4ft SW swell at 19 seconds, glassy in the afternoon. It's a little less certain this far out, but it's worth keeping an eye on.
Overall, the best windows are Wednesday the 15th of July and Monday the 20th of July. The waves are going to be clean, powerful, and good for advanced surfers. Get out there.
Rusty.
