The Lowdown
Alright, let's talk Hennemans. The outlook for the next couple of weeks is a bit of a flat spell, to be honest. The first ten days or so are really not offering anything worth paddling out for. We’ve got a long stretch of marginal and poor conditions from Monday the 17th right through to late August. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1 ft to 3 ft, with a lot of onshore and cross-onshore wind messing things up. That first Monday morning on the 17th has the best shot of the early period, with a clean 3 ft SW groundswell (14 seconds) and cross-shore breeze, but even that’s only rated as a marginal call. The water is a balmy 72° which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – pretty nice for a dip but not for surfing.
From the 29th of August, things start to look a little more promising, but still not clean. On Saturday the 29th, we see the swell finally bump up to 3 ft from the SW, with a solid 17-second period on the morning. The combined wave energy hits 609 (moderate energy), so there’s some push in the water. The problem is the wind is onshore, keeping things messy. That trend continues into Sunday the 30th, with a 3 ft SW swell and energy at 659, but again, onshore breeze means it’s not the clean, glassy day we’d want.
The best of the whole forecast, and I mean the only real standout, is the morning of Monday the 31st of August. The swell is 4 ft from the SW, with a 15-second period, and the combined energy is a solid 578. It’s still a marginal call because of the rain showers and onshore wind, but if you have to get wet, that’s your window. The break is an exposed reef, and it’s inconsistent, so you’ll be waiting for sets, but when they come, there’ll be some push. Crowds are possible here on a good day, so you might have some company.
For the rest of the run into early September, it’s more of the same: small, choppy, and onshore. Not the time to be planning a surf trip.
