The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get real about what’s coming up in our stretch of coast over the next couple of weeks. I’ve looked at the charts and, to be honest, we’re in a pretty dry spell. There’s nothing on offer from the start through to the end of the 16-day window that I’d normally paddle out for. The water temp at Hasharon Beach is 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year—pleasant enough for a swim, but not much help for us surfers.

The first day with any swell action is Wednesday the 5th of August. We’ve got a tiny 2 ft swell from the WNW with a short, weak period of 6 seconds. The combined wave energy is minimal at just 21 kJ—barely a ripple. The wind is glassy in the morning, but the waves are so small and weak they’re just not worth the stringer wax. This pattern pretty much locks in for the whole run. From that Wednesday right through to Thursday the 20th of August, every session is marked as “poor surf conditions.” The swell stays stuck between 1 ft and 3 ft, always from the WNW, with periods stuck at 6 or 7 seconds. The combined energy never cracks three digits—it peaks at just 55 kJ on the 18th. That’s weak, tired, local windswell.

Wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore through the afternoons, with a few mornings offering flat calm glass, but even then the waves are too small to ride. The break itself is exposed to the west swell, which is good for direction, but with these tiny heights and short periods, there’s no push. It’s a beginner-friendly beach break, but there’s nothing for anyone here. Truth be told, with the poor quality and steady onshore breeze through the afternoons, if you’ve got a kite, this setup might float your boat more than a surfboard.

There are no standout days, no hidden gems, just a long, flat stretch. Sometimes it goes this way—the coast can go quiet for weeks at a time. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye out, but as things stand, I’d leave the board in the car.
