The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Topsy or Hilton Bet.
Look, I'm gonna be straight with you – the next 16 days are a tough watch. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing special, and honestly, for most of it, you’re better off doing something else. The first real chance of anything worth paddling out for doesn’t show up until Saturday morning, July 25th.
Up until then, it’s a flat, crummy run. From Tuesday the 21st right through to Friday the 24th, we’re looking at tiny, weak swell with poor onshore or cross-onshore winds. The combined wave energy is absolutely pitiful, barely cracking double digits. You’d be surfing ankle-biters if you could even get a wave to stand up.
Then, on Saturday morning, July 25th, things finally get a bit of a pulse. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds, pushing the combined energy up to 203 – that’s a moderate kick. It’s still a bit of a messy cross-onshore breeze from the SW at 6 mph, so it won’t be perfect, but it’s the only window with enough oomph to be worth a look. The water is sitting at a warm 83°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The standout moment, and the only real highlight of the whole 16 days, is Sunday morning, July 26th. The wind drops right out – glassy conditions from the WNW at just 3 mph. The swell is a clean 3ft from the NW, with a period of 7 seconds and combined energy of 115. It’s not huge, but it’s surfable and clean. That glassy surface is a massive positive, giving you the best chance of a fun little session. After that, it’s back to tiny, weak, and choppy junk for the rest of the run into the first week of August.
This is a classic case of a long, quiet spell. It’s a beach and reef setup, so when the wind gets up and the swell is small, it’s just not worth the effort. The good news is, it’s consistent enough here that this quiet spell won’t last forever – forecasts can change.
Rusty.
