Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the next couple of weeks around Topsy (or Hilton Bet) are looking pretty lackluster, I’m not gonna lie. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak swell and onshore winds that’s gonna keep things real flat and messy for most of the period.
The water’s sitting at 82°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least if you’re just floating around, it’s comfortable.
Right now, starting Tuesday July 7th, the whole setup is a bit of a dud. Swell is hanging around the 2 ft to 4 ft mark but it’s weak – combined energy sits at only 125 (moderate) at best early on, dropping to a tiny 20 (weak) later. The direction is consistently WNW, which isn’t matching the optimum SW direction for this spot. Winds are mostly onshore or cross-onshore from the WSW or WNW, making it choppy and messy. Not worth paddling out for.
Wednesday July 8th and Thursday July 9th are more of the same – poor surf conditions all day, with cross-onshore winds and choppy seas. Swell stays small, periods are short (7-8 seconds), and the energy barely breaks 150 at best.
Friday July 10th through to Friday July 17th is a real desert. Swell bottoms out at 2 ft to 3 ft, periods drop to 6-7 seconds, and combined energy is weak (values between 18 and 88). Winds stay cross-onshore or onshore most days. There’s a glimmer on Sunday July 12th morning with glassy conditions, but the swell is just 2 ft – not enough to get excited about.
The only real standout, and I mean the only one worth mentioning, comes on Saturday July 18th in the morning. It’s glassy – that’s a major positive for clean conditions. Swell is up to 3 ft from the WNW at a 7-second period, and the combined energy is 88 (still weak, but the best we see). The forecast says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions” – look, in this flat spell, that’s the pick of the bunch. It’s a beginner-friendly break, so if you’re keen for a longboard or a foamie and just want to get wet, that Saturday morning window is your best bet. But don’t expect any power or shape.
From Sunday July 19th right through to Wednesday July 22nd, it fades again into tiny, weak, and choppy conditions. Total dead zone.
So here’s the bottom line: we’ve got a gap of virtually no worthwhile surf from now until Friday July 17th – that’s over a week of nothing. The only highlight is that glassy Saturday July 18th morning, but even then, it’s weak and small. If you’re a beginner and just want to bob around in clean conditions, that’s your window. For anyone looking for proper waves? Put the board away for a bit. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s a tough stretch.
Rusty.
