The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here.
It's a bit of a flat spell ahead for us at Topsy, also known as Hilton Bet. This is a beach and reef setup, exposed to a SW swell, but we just aren't seeing the size or the quality to get excited about for a good while. The water is sitting at 86°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year – more than 2° above the norm, so it's notable.
Looking through the forecast, the first half of the period is dominated by tiny surf and ordinary conditions. Sunday the 13th kicks off with a weak 1 ft WNW swell, but a cross-onshore breeze has it choppy. Monday morning the 14th goes glassy with the same tiny 1 ft swell, but it's just too small to be worthwhile. That pattern of tiny swell, often with a messy cross-onshore wind in the afternoons, holds through the rest of the week and into the next. The combined swell energy stays low, mostly in the 9 to 30 range, which is weak.
We do see a small window on Wednesday morning the 16th with a glassy start and a 3 ft NW swell – period is a short 7 seconds, so it's not going to have much push. The energy is moderate at 54, but the surf is described as "very ordinary." That same 3 ft glassy situation repeats on Thursday morning the 17th and again, it's nothing to write home about.
After that, we're back into tiny 1 ft to 2 ft surf for days on end, with most afternoons getting chopped up by a moderate cross-onshore breeze. There are a few glassy morning windows, like Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th, but the swell is still just 2-3 ft and the energy is weak to moderate at best. The best-looking morning is Sunday the 27th with a 3 ft WNW swell and glassy conditions, energy at 86, but the description says it's "surfable but very ordinary." Monday the 28th follows with a glassy 3 ft swell, energy at 68, again just ordinary.
There are no standouts in this 16-day window. The swell is just too small and the winds too often onshore or cross-onshore to offer any quality waves. This is a long stretch of flat to tiny, ordinary conditions.
Rusty.
