The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here. Looking at Topsy (or Hilton Bet) for the next couple weeks, it’s a pretty bare stretch. Topsy’s a beginner‑friendly beach‑and‑reef break that’s fairly consistent, but the swell’s coming from the WNW when it really wants a good SW. Wave heights are tiny across the board, and most of the records are tagged “poor surf conditions.”
The first few days – starting Sunday 30 August afternoon – are all rubbish. The only half‑decent windows come on a few mornings. Tuesday 1 September morning: a clean cross‑off breeze (NNE 5 km/h) with swell 0.8m from the WNW, 7‑second period, weak energy (70). It’s “surfable but very ordinary.” Then Sunday 6 September morning: glassy calm, 0.7m swell, 7 seconds, energy 41 – still tiny. Finally Sunday 13 September morning: glassy again, 0.8m, 7 seconds, energy 62. Those are the only times conditions are even remotely clean, but the waves are ankle‑high and gutless. Every afternoon gets choppy or onshore. If you’re a kitesurfer the stronger afternoon winds might be more fun, but for a paddle surfer there’s nothing worth chasing.
Water temp on the first record is about 30°, which is 2° above average – a touch warmer than usual, so neoprene isn’t needed. Overall, it’s a quiet 16‑day outlook with no real swell to speak of. Forecasts can always turn, but right now the only thing to do is wait.
