The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days at Topsy or Hilton Bet look like a total write-off. There’s just nothing on offer that’s worth paddling out for. We’re stuck in a classic flat spell for this stretch of coast, and it’s a proper bummer.
The water’s a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 83°, but that’s about the only highlight.
Right from the start on Sunday 19 July, we’ve got a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, with a short period of 7 seconds. The wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the NW, making it choppy. The combined energy is weak (26). It’s just poor surf.
Monday 20 July starts with a glassy morning, but the swell drops to 1ft with a period of 6 seconds, and the energy is tiny (16). Afternoon turns crummy again with a cross-onshore breeze. Same story for Tuesday and Wednesday – tiny, weak waves, mostly cross-onshore winds, and energy levels staying below 30. Thursday and Friday see the swell bump up slightly to 3ft, but the period stays short (6–7 seconds), and the wind is either onshore or cross-onshore. Energy creeps into the 30s and 60s, but it’s still messy and weak.
Saturday 25 July finally sees a small jump: 3ft swell from the WNW with an 8-second period, and the combined energy hits 117 (moderate). The morning wind is a light cross-shore from the south, which is the cleanest we’ll see, but it’s still a poor surf call. The afternoon goes downhill again.
From Sunday 26 July through to the end of the forecast on Monday 3 August, it’s the same old story. Swell stays between 1ft and 3ft, periods are short (3–8 seconds), and winds are mostly cross-onshore or onshore. Energy levels are all under 100 except for a couple of mornings that flirt with moderate energy. On Sunday 2 August, there’s a glassy morning with 2ft swell, but it’s too small to do anything with.
There’s a long gap of poor surf with no real recommendations whatsoever. The whole 16-day window is a blank. It’s a tough stretch, but for this area, a dry run like this isn’t unusual. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board in the shed.
