Surf Forecasts:
The Lowdown
Well, mate, I gotta be straight with ya – we're looking at a full 16-day window here and honest to God, there ain't a single wave worth paddlin' for at Hamilton Beach State Park. Nothin' but zeros across the board on the surf front. The water's sitting at a warm 74°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – about 4° above average – but that's small consolation when there's no swell to enjoy.
From Tuesday 4 August right through to Wednesday 19 August, every single reading shows flat, poor surf conditions. You can see the combined swell energy is a big fat zero (0) all the way through. There's simply no swell height, no swell direction, no period – nada. The winds do shift around, and we get a few glassy moments on Wednesday 5 August morning with a light WSW 3 mph breeze and again on Friday 7 August afternoon with a glassy SSE 3 mph, plus some offshore puffs on Thursday 6 August afternoon and Sunday 16 August morning, but without any swell present, those clean conditions are just a tease.
The spot itself is a reef and point set-up that's exposed to NW swells and breaks inconsistently. It can get crowded sometimes, but right now crowds aren't the issue – the issue is there's literally nothing to ride. For an area where this break is normally inconsistent, a long blank run like this isn't entirely out of the ordinary, but it still stings. Keep an eye on the forecasts, mate – things can change.
