The Lowdown

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's break down what's cooking for Glen Beach.

We've got a bit of a slow start, but once the first push of swell kicks in, this sandbar is going to have some real standouts. The water is sitting at 56°F, which is a solid 4° colder than it should be for this time of year – that's a serious chill, so you'll want the extra rubber. The overall energy levels are up and down, but we'll see some big numbers.

The real action gets going on Sunday morning the 23rd. The swell is coming from the WSW at 8ft, with a nice long period of 13 seconds – that's proper groundswell. The combined energy is a strong 1850, and with a light SSE breeze keeping it clean, this is the standout of the first week. It's a bit big for the beginners, but for the experienced crew, it's going to be excellent. The offshore wind is from the east, which is the sweet spot for this break.

Monday the 24th is a step down. The morning is clean with a 6ft SSW swell and light SSE winds, good for a session, but the afternoon sees the wind crank up to 16 mph, making it a bit of a fight.

The next big highlight is Tuesday morning the 25th. We're looking at a 8ft SW swell with a very long period of 14 seconds. The combined energy reading is 2141 – that's some serious juice. Winds are light and offshore. This is a solid expert-level wave. The long period means it'll be lined up nicely at this sandbar, and the gaps between sets will make the paddle out easier.

Wednesday the 26th is interesting. The swell drops to 8ft but switches direction to the SE with a short period of 8 seconds. That's a windswell, and while it's not as clean as the groundswell, the light offshore winds all day keep it looking tidy. The energy is still strong at 1356 to 1580. It's still a bit much for beginners.

We get a nice little cleanup on Friday the 28th. The swell is smaller at 4ft to 4ft from the WSW, but the period is a very long 14 seconds. The real treat here is the wind – glassy conditions in the afternoon. That's about as clean as it gets. The energy is moderate at 1021 to 1056, so it's not a powerhouse, but it will be smooth and fun for the intermediate crowd.

Now, things get wild on the weekend. Saturday the 29th is a write-off – strong onshore winds and a messy, lumpy 10ft swell. That's more of a kite-surfing day. Sunday the 30th sees the swell peak at 12ft from the WSW with a combined energy of 4154 – that's huge. But the forecast says it's too big for this break, so give it a miss.

The final standout is Tuesday the 1st of September. The swell is 7ft from the SW with a very long 14-second period, and the wind is offshore and light. The energy is a strong 1843. This is another excellent window for experienced surfers looking for clean, powerful waves.

The following days are a bit mixed. The 4th of September has a 8ft SSE swell, but the period is shorter at 9 seconds, and the wind is clean in the morning. It's a worthy option, but not the standout.

Overall, the best bets are the Sunday morning the 23rd, the Tuesday morning the 25th, and the Tuesday morning the 1st of September. For the cleanest, smaller-day fun, don't sleep on the Friday afternoon the 28th with that glassy, long-period groundswell.

Rusty.
