Table - best surf conditions forecast for Escolleras over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
This is a solid run of surf on the horizon, no doubt about it. We’re looking at a stretch that starts slow but builds into something special, especially for the crew that knows what they're doing. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 88°, so that’s a bit of a treat.
Escolleras is the only game in town, and it’s a classic beginner-friendly setup. It’s a fairly consistent break, exposed to the swell, and it likes a good SW direction. It can get crowded often, so keep that in mind.
The first real action kicks off on Saturday morning, 11 July. It’s glassy, dead calm, with a solid 4ft SSW groundswell rolling in at a super long 15 seconds. That’s a proper long-period groundswell, and the energy is moderate (765). For a spot like Escolleras, that long period means the waves will have shape and power, but it can also make them a bit walled up. Still, those early morning conditions will be clean as a whistle. That’s the pick of the first few days.
Sunday morning, 12 July, is a step down. The wind is light and cross-shore, so it’s not terrible, but the swell drops a touch to 4ft. It’s still rideable, but nothing to write home about. The afternoon gets choppier.
Monday morning, 13 July, is a return to form. Clean conditions with a light offshore wind and a 3ft SSW swell. The period is still a solid 14 seconds, and the energy is moderate (791). It’s a good, clean, fun session for the beginner to intermediate surfer.
Tuesday morning, 14 July, is another clean one. 3ft of swell, light offshore wind, and a 13-second period. It’s small, but it’s glassy and clean. The afternoon turns into a mess with a 12 mph cross-onshore wind.
Wednesday morning, 15 July, is a small, clean option at 2ft, but the period is long at 16 seconds. Very small, but the clean conditions will make it fun for a longboard. The afternoon gets a spike in size to 5ft, but the wind is cross-onshore and the period drops to 11 seconds, so it’s a bit of a messy closeout.
Thursday morning, 16 July, is glassy again with a 3ft SSW swell. Small, but perfect for a morning paddle.
Now, the real standout is coming. Monday morning, 20 July. This is the one. The swell is 4ft from the SSW, but the energy is strong (1212), and the period is a very long 16 seconds with glassy, dead calm conditions. That’s a recipe for some of the best waves of the window. The water is still that warm anomaly, and the conditions are just *chef’s kiss*. This is a session you book off work for.
Tuesday morning, 21 July is the big dog. 7ft of SW swell, with a 12-second period and glassy, calm winds. The energy is strong (1811). This is for experienced surfers only. It’s going to be a powerful, solid day at Escolleras. The wave energy is moderate to strong, and the size is in the expert zone. If you’re not comfortable in overhead+ surf, sit this one out.
Wednesday morning, 22 July, is still solid for the experienced crew. 6ft of W swell, clean and offshore, with strong energy (1743). The afternoon is a write-off with a 10ft swell that is just too big for this break and a cross-onshore wind.
The end of the window on Saturday morning, 25 July, and Sunday morning, 26 July, are both looking glassy with 5ft SW groundswells at a very long 18-20 seconds. The energy is strong (1633 and 1776). These are very promising days, but remember, we’re talking about a week and a half out, so take it with a grain of salt. The long-period swell here is best for the point and reef setups, but it’ll still be fun at Escolleras.
The only real gap in the action is a few days in the middle of the second week, where the afternoon winds get messy, but the mornings always offer something clean.
All in all, get on the Monday morning, 20 July or Tuesday morning, 21 July. The 20th is the all-round best for most, the 21st is for the big-wave crew.
Rusty.
