The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
Alright, straight up – this is a pretty grim outlook for El Playon. The entire 16-day window from now through to the 15th of August shows *zero* surf energy. Every single session, morning and afternoon, has the combined energy sitting at a flat zero (0). There’s no swell reaching this sheltered beach and breakwater setup, so don’t bother checking the buoys or the charts – it’s dead flat. This is a stretch of time where the ocean just isn’t playing ball.
The first day, the 31st of July, Friday, starts with clear skies and a light northerly breeze at 6 mph but the water is flat. Water temperature is a warm 82°, which is about average for the time of year. By the afternoon, a risk of thunderstorms and a cross-onshore ENE wind at 9 mph just adds to the frustration.
The pattern doesn’t change. Saturday the 1st of August through to Sunday the 9th of August is a repeat of the same story: mornings with light northerly or NNE winds, afternoons with ENE breezes picking up to 9 or 12 mph, and always “poor surf conditions.” There’s no swell height, no period, no energy – nothing. The only slight glimmer comes on the morning of Thursday the 13th of August, when the wind goes glassy from the north at just 3 mph, but still, there’s no wave to ride. It’s like a mirror out there.
The overall pattern is a complete blank. There’s nothing to recommend, no standout, no window. If you’re a surfer, this is a time to leave the board in the car and maybe go for a swim. For kite surfers, even they’d struggle with no wind or swell. It’s a rare dead stretch for this area, but it happens.
Rusty.
