The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get straight into it for El Playon.
To be honest, looking out over the next 16 days, it's a pretty flat and quiet picture for this stretch. We've got a long gap with zero surf on offer from now, right through the end of August and well into the first week of September. It’s not until the morning of the 8th of September that we even see a tiny pulse of energy, and even then, it’s barely a ripple. The consistency is decent for El Playon, so this kind of blank run is a bit of a bummer, but it happens. Don't lose hope; forecasts can shift.
For the first real mention of surf, we look at El Playon. This is a beginner-friendly beach and breakwater set-up that is sheltered, but the optimum swell is from the NNE. On the morning of the 8th of September, we’ve got a tiny 0.3 ft swell from the north, which is a little off the ideal angle. The period is a very long 11 seconds, suggesting some groundswell character, but with the combined energy a weak 3, there’s just no push. The wind is light and offshore from the NNE, which would keep it glassy, but there’s nothing to ride. The water temp is sitting at 83°F, which is about average for this time of year. Later that day and into the 9th, it stays tiny with weak energy (2). The afternoon winds switch to a moderate cross-onshore, making it choppy and ugly.
The standout, if you can call it that, is the morning of Saturday the 5th of September. While there is zero swell, it’s worth noting we get a glassy, windless morning. It’s a tease, but if any leftover bump appears, it would be clean. Don't get your hopes up.
Honestly, there is no good surf to recommend here. The setup looks more like a flat, glassy lake for a paddle board than a surf spot for most of the outlook.
Rusty.
