The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s call it like it is: this is going to be a long dry spell. For the next 16 days, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing for wave riding. The first week is a total bust. From Saturday, August 22nd all the way through Monday, August 31st, there’s zero surf on offer. That’s a 10-day stretch of flat, dead ocean.
Over at El Playon, it’s a sheltered beach and breakwater spot. The water temperature is sitting right where it should be for the season at 84°F, so no complaints there. But with no swell in the water, it doesn’t matter a bit.
Come the first week of September, it barely gets better. On Wednesday, September 2nd, a tiny 0.3ft swell from the north shows up, with a 12-second period. That’s a groundswell, sure, but the energy is laughable – just a 3 (combined swell energy). The wind is light and cross-onshore, so you’re looking at bumpy, rippled conditions. Unrideable.
Thursday, September 3rd morning gives us a 0.3ft north swell with an 11-second period and even weaker energy, a 2. Wind is onshore. Again, forget it.
Then it flatlines again. There are no standout days in this entire 16-day window. This kind of dead period is pretty normal for this spot, so don’t be too shocked. Forecasts can always turn around.
Stay tuned.
