Alright, Rusty here. Let's look at what we've got for the next couple weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – looking at the whole 16-day window, it’s a tough stretch. We’ve got a long gap of absolutely zero surf on offer right from the start. From Monday the 7th all the way through to the 14th of September, there’s nothing doing at El Playon. It’s flat, it’s messy, or just plain poor conditions. You’re better off waxing the longboard and leaving it in the car for a week and a half.
The first tiny sign of life shows up on Tuesday morning, the 15th of September. We’re talking a knee-high dribble of 0.3ft from the north. The period is a long 12 seconds, so there’s some groundswell energy there, but with combined energy of just (3), it’s barely a ripple. The wind looks glassy that morning, which is nice, but it’s still just a tiny sliver of a wave. That glassy spell won’t last, as the afternoon turns cross-onshore and messy again.
Wednesday the 16th is more of the same: 0.3ft from the north, period dropping to 11 seconds. Energy is even lower at (2). The winds are light cross-onshore, so it’s not totally blown out, but you’d be scratching for anything rideable.
We get another little blip on Friday morning the 18th with 0.3ft from the north and a fairly long period of 13 seconds, giving us (3) in energy. The wind is offshore from the north early, but the swell is just too tiny to get excited about.
Honestly, the closest we get to a “standout” is that glassy Tuesday morning the 15th or the Friday morning the 18th, but only if you’re desperate for a float. These are ankle-snappers at best. There’s no real swell to speak of, so I can’t point you to a best break. The whole window is a write-off for any proper surfing. It’s one of those stretches where the forecast can only improve, because it can’t get much worse for wave count.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts, and maybe give the board a fresh wax. This too shall pass.
