The Lowdown

Right, I’ve taken a look at the charts for El Playon, and it’s a pretty grim picture for the next sixteen days, I’m not gonna lie to you. To be honest, there’s not a single surfable wave in the whole forecast window. Not one. The swell energy is sitting at zero for every single day, right through to the 6th of August. So, we’ve got a solid stretch of nothing here.

What we’ve got instead is a lot of wind and a lot of flat water. This break is a sheltered beach and breakwater setup, and it’s just not catching any energy. The wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, from the N, NNE, and ENE, which would mess up any small bump that might have been there. You’ll see a few mornings with glassy conditions, like the 3rd and 5th of August, and even a glassy calm on the morning of the 6th, but with no swell to push through, it’s just a lake. The water temperature anomaly doesn’t even matter because there’s nothing to ride.

For a spot like this that’s classed as consistent, this is a real bummer. It’s a blank run, plain and simple. If you’re looking for a paddle, you’re out of luck. The setup with the wind we’re seeing might actually be more interesting for someone on a kite than a surfboard, to be honest.

Keep an eye on the charts, these things can change, but for now, the quiver stays in the car.
