The Lowdown
Alright, this is a tough one to call. Let's be real with you. We're looking at the next 16 days for El Playon, and honestly, it's a flat spell for the books. From now until the morning of the 12th of August, there's nothing on the cards. That's a solid two-week stretch with zero surfable energy. The combined swell energy is a goose egg (0) for every single session in that window, so don't even bother lugging your board down.
There is a tiny flicker of hope right at the very end of the outlook. On the morning of Wednesday the 12th of August, we finally see a pulse. A tiny 0.7ft swell from the NNE with a period of 11 seconds rolls in. The wind is glassy, which is a beautiful thing, and the combined energy is just a whisper at (11). The water temp is sitting around 83°, which is about average for this time of year, so that's one less thing to worry about.
Then on the morning of Thursday the 13th of August, we get a similar story: a 0.7ft groundswell from the north, a period of 12 seconds, and glassy conditions again. The energy is still weak (11) in the morning, dropping to (10) by the afternoon as a light cross-onshore picks up.
Look, El Playon is a sheltered beginner-friendly break, and it's consistent normally, but this is a brutal run of flatness. The final two days offer something, but it's micro-surf. For a beginner, a 0.7ft wave might be a fun little bob, but there's no power or push. For anyone else, it's a skimboard session at best. The long period on that tiny swell means it'll be slow and gutless, especially on a beach and breakwater setup. It's a shame, because the wind is perfect for those few hours. The only thing that could save this is if the forecasts change, because it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Rusty.
