The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. I’ve stared at the charts and, well, the outlook for this stretch is a tough one. We've got a long, flat run ahead, so let's get into it.
The first bit of anything resembling a wave doesn’t show up until Friday the 18th, and even then it’s a whisper. For a solid six days from now, it’s basically a lake out there. The water temp is sitting at a warm 83.5°F, about average for this time of year, which would be nice if there was anything to surf.
For El Playon, which is a sheltered beach and breakwater setup, the news is grim for over a week. The swell energy numbers are all zeros until Friday morning, the 18th. That morning we finally see a tiny pulse: 0.3ft from the North with a 13-second period. The combined energy is a weak 3. There’s a bit of northerly wind, so it could be clean, but you’re looking at knee-high dribbles at best. That afternoon it gets chopped up by an easterly breeze. Honestly, this spot is so sheltered that it needs a specific angle, and the optimum is from the NNE, which we don't see any substantial energy from.
The following Saturday and Sunday (the 20th and 21st) are more of the same tiny dribbles. There's a bump on Saturday the 20th with a 0.3ft northerly swell and a period of 12 seconds, but again, the energy is minimal and the winds are cross-shore. It’s not until Saturday the 26th, a full two weeks away, that we see the biggest swell of the entire forecast: 0.7ft from the NNE, with a period of 10 seconds. The energy reading is a measly 9. Even with light winds forecast, that’s barely a ripple. For a beginner-friendly wave, even these small conditions are a struggle.
This is a classic flat spell for a sheltered zone like this. The consistent "poor surf conditions" label on every single time slot tells the whole story. There are no standouts, no saving grace. If the wind blows, this setup would be more interesting for a kite than a paddle.
So, bottom line: leave the boards at home for the next two weeks. The forecasts can always change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
