El Playon Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, let me be straight with you. Gonna level with you on what we've got here for the local stretch.

Okay folks, Rusty here. Look, I’ve scanned the charts for the next 16 days and honestly, it’s a tough stretch. There’s a real dry spell on the cards. From now, right through the end of August and into the first week of September, there is absolutely no surf to speak of. The energy is completely flat – a big fat zero on the combined swell energy. You’ll be looking at a lake, not an ocean, for over a week. Don’t bother paddling out until we get into the second weekend.

The first tiny flicker of life shows up on Saturday the 5th of September in the morning. El Playon is calling out with a whisper of a swell – only 0.3 ft from the North, with a 10-second period. The combined energy is a measly 2, so we’re talking about barely a ripple. The wind is a light cross-onshore, so it won’t be clean. It’s a beach and breakwater setup that’s sheltered, so it won't take much swell to show something, but this is strictly for the desperate.

After that, it goes dead again for a few more days. The next sign of life isn’t until Tuesday the 8th of September. Again, El Playon shows a tiny 0.3 ft pulse, this time from the NNE with a very long 15-second period. That long period means it’s a groundswell, which will be better shaped and have more push, but this is still just a tiny bump. The energy is still only 4, and the wind is a light cross-onshore. For a beginner-friendly, sheltered spot, this is still barely a paddle.

The only other blip of note is on Saturday the 12th of September. In the afternoon, we see another tiny increase – 0.3 ft from the North with a 14-second period, but the wind picks up to a moderate cross-onshore at 12 mph, so it’ll be choppy and not much fun.

The best of a very poor bunch comes on Sunday the 13th of September. The morning shows the biggest swell of the whole run: 0.7 ft from the NNE with a 12-second period. The combined energy finally climbs to a 15. It’s still tiny, but it’s the best we’ve got. The wind is light and onshore, but for a sheltered beginner spot, there might be a tiny, grovelly wave to be found.

So, the call is this: if you absolutely need to get wet, your only real shot is El Playon on the morning of Sunday the 13th of September. It’s a sheltered spot, so it takes very little to show something, but don’t expect anything with any power. The water temp is about 84°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so the humidity will be the main thing you notice.

Other than that, it’s a blank run. This area can often go quiet like this, so it’s just one of those times to wait it out. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, the board’s staying in the car.
