The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, with the same story in feet and miles.
First off, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days are looking pretty bleak for a paddle. El Playon, a beach and breakwater setup, is sheltered and wants swell from the NNE, but we’ve got a big fat zero in the combined energy department across the whole run. The numbers show nothing but zeros for wave energy, and the wave comments all say "poor surf conditions." That’s a long, flat spell.
We’re looking at a gap starting now and running all the way through to the end of the forecast on August 2nd. There’s simply no surf to speak of, so leave the board at home unless you’re into a flat spell.
The water temperature here is 82°F with a tiny anomaly of 0.5°F, so it’s pretty much normal for this time of year – warm and pleasant for a swim, but not for surfing.
The winds are a mixed bag of cross-on and onshore most days, with a few glassy moments like Monday morning the 20th of July and Thursday the 23rd, but with no swell, it’s just a flat, pretty lake. There’s a risk of thunderstorms scattered through, so if you’re just hanging out, keep an eye on the sky.
Honestly, if you’re looking for a thrill, the setup here is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing when there’s any breeze, but without swell, even that’s a stretch.
That’s the long and short of it. No standouts, no waves, just a whole lot of nothing for the next two weeks.
Rusty.
