The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for El Playon over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you—this isn’t a classic stretch for waves. The forecast is a dry spell, and we’re looking at a real quiet period with no surf on the menu.

Right off the bat, El Playon (El Salvador) is a beginner-friendly beach-and-breakwater setup, sheltered from the swell. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, nothing wild to report there. But the issue is simple: there’s no swell energy to speak of. The combined energy is reading 0, and that means flat, flat, flat.

The first few days, from Tuesday the 11th right through to Wednesday the 26th of August, are a total blank. There’s just nothing coming in. The good news is that this spot is consistent when it does work, so a run like this isn’t the norm around here. We’ve got some glassy mornings—like on Wednesday the 12th morning, Friday the 14th morning, Wednesday the 19th morning, and Sunday the 23rd morning—but without any swell, glassy conditions don’t put a wave under you. It’s just a flat, clean ocean. Some afternoons get a bit of cross-onshore breeze and chop, which would make it even less appealing if there were any waves.

Honestly, for the entire 16-day window, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. If you’re desperate for a saltwater fix, those glassy mornings might be nice for a swim, but don’t bring the board. The setup here looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with that cross-onshore wind and no swell. It’s a tough stretch, but forecasts can change, and it rarely stays this poor for long.

Stay patient,
Rusty
