The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for El Playon.
To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty quiet. The swell window is just not getting any love right now. We’ve got a long stretch of days with zero energy on offer, starting right now. It’s not until Friday the 18th that we see the smallest whisper of a wave, and even then, it’s barely a ripple. Honestly, the first real week is a write-off for any kind of decent session.
The water temperature is sitting at about 84°F, which is only 0.9°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so nothing wild there. Just your typical warm tropical bath.
The first tiny blip, and I mean *tiny*, shows up on the morning of Friday the 18th. We’ve got a 0.3ft swell from the north with a period of 13 seconds. The combined energy is a measly (3). To be honest, at that height, it’s just not going to do anything on the sand. The wind is light and onshore, so the surface will be bumpy. Don’t get your hopes up.
We then drift back into a full flat spell until the morning of Sunday the 20th, where a 0.3ft, 9-second north swell creeps in (energy of 2). Sunday afternoon is the same height but a 9-second period (energy of 1). Both are hopeless for surfing.
We’re looking at a real blank run through to the end of September. There’s a small uptick on Sunday the 27th in the afternoon, with a 3ft swell from the northeast, but the period is a short, weak 6 seconds (energy of 50). The wind is cross-onshore, so it’ll be bumpy and messy. Not worth paddling out for.
The only slight glimmer comes on Monday the 28th. We’ve got 1ft swell from the north-northeast with a period of 5 seconds (energy of 11). Still, the period is far too short to offer any real power, and the wind is onshore to cross-onshore. It’s a beach and breakwater setup, so with that little energy and poor wind, it’s just not a surfable proposition.
Unfortunately, there are no standouts in this 16-day window. It’s a classic case of the region going quiet. With consistent breaks here normally, this kind of dry spell happens, and forecasts can always turn around, but for now, keep the board in the bag.
