The Lowdown

Alright, listen up. Rusty here. Let's talk about El Playon. Gotta be honest, the outlook for the next 16 days is a total dud. There's absolutely nothing worth paddling out for from the 13th of August right through the 28th.

The whole period is a flat spell. You'll see a tiny, almost invisible 0.3 ft bump from the North on Saturday afternoon the 15th, and another 0.3 ft blip from the North on Tuesday morning the 18th, but with the combined swell energy being basically zero, those are just ripples, not waves. Those are the only times the swell height shows anything other than a dash, which means there's no surfable wave energy.

The wind is mostly working against us, too. It's blowing onshore or cross-onshore from the East or Northeast nearly all day, every day, putting a chop on a flat ocean. The water temp is about 83°, which is standard for this time of year. We get a couple of glassy mornings on the 17th, 23rd, and 24th, but with no swell, it's just flat calm.

For a sheltered, beginner-friendly spot like El Playon, a run of flat days like this is just how it goes sometimes. The afternoons are regularly showing risk of thunderstorms, which is just normal for the season. For paddle surfing, there's nothing. For kite surfing, there's no wind on offer, either.

So, to wrap it up: no standouts, no good waves, nothing to get excited about. This stretch is a write-off. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is as blank as it gets.
