The Lowdown

Well, grab a coffee, ‘cause I’ve got some tough news for you. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and messy for our stretch of coast. We’re staring down a real dry spell with no good surf on the horizon for a while.

Honestly, the first few days are a total write-off. Wednesday the 9th and Thursday the 10th are looking at nothing but cross-onshore breezes and poor surf conditions. You’ll be staring at a lake, not a lineup. Friday through the weekend doesn't get any better—still nothing but small wind ripples and poor surf. We’re talking a solid gap of a week or more where you won't want to paddle out.

There is a tiny blip of hope early on Tuesday the 15th, with a small 0.3ft swell rolling in from the north with a 12-second period. The wind is light, but it's still cross-onshore, and the energy is just pathetic—only 3 on the combined energy scale. It’s the kind of wave that’s more trouble than it’s worth. Then Thursday the 17th throws up another faint whisper: 0.3ft of north swell, with a 15-second period, and the wind goes glassy in the morning. The energy is still a weak 4, but at least it’s clean. If you’re absolutely desperate for a splash, that Thursday morning at El Playon is your best shot, but don’t expect to get your hair wet.

After that, it’s back to nothing. The following week just fades into more cross-onshore junk, and by the 23rd, the wind finally goes offshore for a moment, but there’s still no swell to push it. It’s a cruel tease. El Playon is a consistent break, but it tends not to stay this poor for long. The forecasts can flip, so don’t sell your board just yet. But for now, focus on something else, because the surf is off the menu for the foreseeable future.
