The Lowdown
Right then, let's have a look at what's on offer for El Playon over the next couple of weeks. Straight up, I gotta be honest with you, it's looking pretty bleak. The finder is telling me there's zero energy in the water for the entire 16-day window, with the combined swell energy sitting at a flat 0. That's a total shutout.
The water temp is sitting at about 83° with a tiny anomaly of 0.5°, so it's pretty much bang on average for this time of year. But that's where the good news ends.
Starting from today, right through until at least the end of August, we're looking at a whole heap of nothing. The wave comment across every single entry is "poor surf conditions," and the scores are all zeros. There's no swell at all – dashes across the board for height, direction, and period. The wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore from the north and east, and we've got a constant threat of thunderstorms hanging over most afternoons. There are a few brief windows of glassy wind, like Tuesday afternoon the 18th, Wednesday morning the 19th, and Sunday morning the 30th, but with no swell, it doesn't matter a damn.
This blank run stretches all the way from the start of the period on the 16th of August through to the very last entry on the 31st of August. That's over two full weeks with no surf. Given that El Playon is a sheltered beach and breakwater setup, this sort of extended flat spell can be a bit more normal here, but it's still a tough pill to swallow.
Honestly, this is about as quiet as I've seen it. If you absolutely have to get in the water, you'd be better off with a set of fins and a mask. There is not a single standout session in this entire forecast – it's a long, dry spell, my friends.
