The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about El Playon for the next 16 days.
Honestly mate, it’s a pretty grim run. We’ve got zero energy on the cards for the vast majority of the window. From Friday 21 August right through to Monday 31 August morning, the wave energy is sitting at a flat zero (0). There’s simply no swell to speak of – the swell height is a dash across the board. A few mornings have that glassy look, like Sunday 23 August morning and Tuesday 25 August morning, but without any waves, glassy conditions mean nothing for a surfer.
Water temp at the start is sitting at 84°F with a 1°F anomaly, so it’s pretty much normal for this time of year, nothing wild.
There’s a tiny flicker of life on Monday 31 August afternoon – we see a 0.3ft swell creeping in from the north with a 12-second period, energy a paltry 3. That’s barely a ripple. It carries through into Tuesday 1 September morning and Wednesday 2 September morning, still with that tiny 0.3ft north swell, period dropping a touch to 11 seconds. Energy stays next to nothing (3). Winds are mostly light to moderate cross-onshore or onshore, so even that tiny bump won’t be clean. There’s really nothing to get excited about.
El Playon itself is a beginner-friendly beach and breakwater setup that is usually consistent, but with no swell, consistent flatness is all we’re looking at. For a full 10-day stretch there’s zero surfable energy, and the little 0.3ft blips at the end are too weak to call a session. The optimum swell direction is NNE, so if something arrives it would at least suit the break, but there’s nothing on the horizon.
If you’re checking for a standout, there isn’t one. This is one of those blank runs you just have to sit out. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s a hard no.
Rusty.
