The Lowdown
Alright, crew. Rusty here again. I've scanned the full 16-day outlook for El Playon, and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it – it's a bust. The whole 16 days is flat as a pancake. The numbers show zero wave energy for every single session, with no swell height, direction, or period to speak of. It's a total goose egg.
So, the first surf recommendation? Doesn't exist. The first week, from July 20th through the end of the month, is a complete dud. Then we roll into the first week of August, from the 1st to the 4th, and it's the same story. That's a full 16-day stretch with nothing rideable. The water temp is about 82°F, which is fairly normal for the season, but you won't be needing a wetsuit for surfing because there's no surf to be had.
The break itself, El Playon, is a sheltered beach and breakwater setup that usually offers consistent waves for beginners when it's working. It needs a swell from the NNE. Without it, it's just a flat lake. The wind does go glassy on the morning of July 23rd, and again on the morning of July 27th and August 3rd, but with zero waves, it doesn't matter. The afternoons often get a bit of a cross-onshore breeze, which would mess up any little bumps, but there are no bumps to mess up.
There's nothing to highlight. No standouts. No best day. For a spot that's normally fairly consistent, this is a bizarrely long dry spell. Forecasts can always change, but right now, I'd say leave the stick at home. This is a full-on blank run.
Rusty.
