Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this outlook for El Playon is a tough one to write. We’re looking at a full 16-day window, from Monday the 6th of July all the way through to Tuesday the 22nd, and honestly, there’s not a single moment of rideable surf on the cards. That’s a blank run of about 16 days.
The water’s sitting at a warm 81°, which is 0.5° warmer than usual for this time of year – pretty average, nothing wild. But none of that matters when there’s simply no swell energy. The combined energy of all swells directed here is sitting at a flat zero (0) the entire time. We’re talking about a sheltered spot, and it’s showing.
Winds are mostly light and variable, with a few afternoons picking up a bit from the ENE, but it’s all cross-onshore and choppy. There’s one morning on Tuesday the 14th of July where the wind goes glass – totally calm – but again, with no swell, it’s just a flat, pretty lake. For a beginner-friendly beach and breakwater, this setup actually looks more interesting for a paddleboard or a kayak than a surfboard.
It’s not unusual for this area to go through a quiet spell, so don’t write it off entirely. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to recommend. Keep the boards waxed and wait for the next pulse.
