Best Forecast Surf Conditions for El Playon this week:
The largest open ocean swell (not directed at the beach) is 1.8m 8s period and expected on Friday (Jul 10) at 8PM.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at El Playon over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s gonna be a tough stretch. The wave energy for the entire 16-day period is completely flat, a big fat zero (0) on the energy scale. So, not a single wave to get excited about from Wednesday, July 8th right through to the end.
This is a sheltered spot, and it’s just not catching anything. The water temp is sitting at a warm 82°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year, but that’s no consolation when there’s nothing to surf.
We do get a few glassy mornings, like the early sessions on Thursday the 9th, Sunday the 12th, and even Saturday the 18th of July, with offshore or glassy wind from the N or NW at just 3 mph. That would be perfect if there were any swell, but there isn’t. It’s just flat and clean. The afternoons are looking at onshore breezes from the ENE around 6 to 12 mph, making things choppy, but again, no waves to mess up anyway.
For a beginner-friendly beach and breakwater setup that’s normally consistent, this blank run is unusual, but it happens. It’s a total drought, and there’s nothing on the horizon to recommend. I’d say give it a miss and check back later – forecasts change.
Rusty.
