The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. We’re looking at a solid 16-day window, but the surf is basically a no-show. The first record we’ve got is for Tuesday, July 28th, and from then all the way through to Wednesday, August 12th, every single time slot is showing "poor surf conditions" with zero combined swell energy (0). There’s simply no swell to speak of. You’re looking at a long, flat gap here.
The only spot in the data is El Playon, a sheltered beach and breakwater setup that’s best for beginners when it’s working. But it’s not working. The wind is all over the place – mostly cross-onshore from the ENE, with a few lighter, glassy mornings scattered in there. The water temp is sitting at 82° with a normal anomaly of 0.5°, so it’s about average for this time of year. But none of that matters when there’s no wave energy.
There are no standouts, no hidden gems, nothing to get excited about. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the mornings on August 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 12th look glassy, but with zero swell, it’s just a flat lake out there. Honestly, this stretch looks more appealing for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer if the wind picks up, but for us wave riders, it’s a write-off.
Keep an eye on the forecasts, though – it never stays flat forever.
Rusty.
