The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one. Right across the entire 16-day window from now through to the 15th of August, there’s basically nothing doing. The finder shows zero swell coming in for the whole stretch, and the forecast keeps calling it “poor surf conditions” day after day. It’s a flat spell, plain and simple.
The only real break on the map is El Playon, a beach and breakwater setup that’s sheltered and best for beginners. It’s consistent, but when there’s no swell, that doesn’t mean a thing. The water temp is sitting at 82°, which is about average for the time of year, but you won’t be getting wet for waves anyway.
Looking at the whole period, there’s a long gap of nothing from the start all the way through. The only tiny flicker is on the afternoon of the 12th of August, when a tiny 0.7 ft swell from the NNE shows up with a 13-second period – that’s a long period for such a tiny wave, and combined energy is a measly 18 (weak). Wind is cross-onshore, so it’s not clean either. Hardly worth a paddle.
The truth is, for this area, a blank run like this isn’t that unusual. The setup doesn’t have much exposure to the right swell directions, and when the ocean goes quiet, it stays quiet. I wouldn’t hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to recommend.
Rusty.
