The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break it down in feet and miles.

Look, I’ll be honest – it’s a grim outlook for El Playon. For the next two weeks, the surf is pretty much non-existent. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with nothing to ride.

Starting now and running all the way through August and into early September, every report is “poor surf conditions.” The combined wave energy is at zero, and swell heights are flat. The water temp is 83°, which is normal for the season, so it’s nice for a swim, but that’s about it.

The only hint of anything shows up on the afternoon of Monday, September 1st, when we get a tiny 0.3 ft north swell with a 12-second period. The combined energy is a pathetic 3. It’s clean, with a light cross-offshore wind, but there’s no power. The next morning, Tuesday, is the same story – 0.3 ft north swell, 11-second period, energy of 2. Just a little bump.

So, there’s no standout session. El Playon is a consistent, beginner-friendly spot that’s sheltered from the swell. It needs a proper north-northeast pulse to work, and this forecast has nothing. The ocean is basically taking a break. Save the gas and leave the board on the rack.

Rusty.
