The Lowdown
Gutted to be writing this one, folks. The next 16 days are looking like a flat spell for El Playon. We're staring at a whole lot of nothing on the surf front, and it's a tough run for a spot that's usually more reliable.
The first nine days are a complete write-off. From Sunday the 9th through to Monday the 17th, there's just no swell at all. The combined energy at the break is sitting at zero (0), and the conditions are mostly a mess of cross-onshore breezes and afternoon thunderstorm risk. It's not even worth paddling out for a grovel. You'd be fighting a losing battle against the chop for zero reward.
Then, right at the tail end of the window, there’s a tiny glimmer. On Tuesday the 18th morning, we finally see something. It's a tiny pulse of 0.3ft swell from the north, but with a 10-second period. The energy is still weak (2), and with the light WSW wind going glassy, it might be the cleanest the ocean has looked all week. It's not going to be a wave you'll write home about, but for a beginner, it might just be a fun, ankle-high dribble on the beach and breakwater. The water temp is running about average for this time of year, so that's one thing in our favor.
But don't get excited. That’s it. From the 18th afternoon onwards, it's back to flat and poor conditions again through to the 24th. The wind keeps swinging around to the east-northeast, which is cross-onshore and chops everything up. The afternoons are consistently a write-off with the risk of thunderstorms.
It's a bleak outlook, no two ways about it. For an area that's usually `consistent`, this blank run is a real kick in the teeth. The swell window is just shut. That Tuesday morning window is the only chance to get wet, and even then, it's more about the peace and quiet than the waves. Keep your board in the car, but don't hold your breath.
