The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a paddle. I'm looking at El Playon here, and it's a long, dry spell.
The whole 16-day window is basically a write-off for any decent surf. From the 7th of August all the way through to the 21st, we're looking at a big fat zero. The combined wave energy is sitting at 0 (0) for every single session, which means there's just nothing of any size or power to work with. The wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, keeping things choppy and messy – a real bummer.
There is a tiny flicker of hope at the very end. On the morning of the 22nd of August, we might see a tiny pulse of swell, just 0.3 ft from the north, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is still pitifully weak at 2 (2). The wind is still a light cross-onshore, so it won't be clean. Honestly, it's barely enough to surf a whitewater wave on a foam board. For a beginner-friendly spot like El Playon, this is about as flat as it gets.
There's no standout day here. The water temp is a normal 83°F, which is about average for the time of year, but that's about the only thing that's not a letdown. If you're a kite surfer, you might find some fun in the afternoon breeze, but for a surfer, it's a long wait. The forecasts can change, so keep an eye out, but for now, the board stays in the shed.
Rusty.
