The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's be straight with you—looking at the next 16 days for El Playon, it's a pretty grim stretch. There's no swell to speak of across the entire forecast period, so we're looking at a flat spell with no real surf on offer at all.
From Tuesday, July 14 right through to Wednesday, July 29, we've got a solid 16-day gap with zero wave energy. The combined energy of all swells directed here is sitting at 0, so there's simply nothing to ride. It's a total blank. The water temp is sitting at 82°F, which is about average for the time of year, but that doesn't mean much when there's no waves.
The wind does swing around to glassy conditions on the morning of Tuesday, July 21, and again on Thursday morning, July 23, and Wednesday morning, July 29, but with no swell, it's just a flat, pretty ocean. Even the occasional light offshore winds from the NNE or N won't help because there's nothing to shape.
For a sheltered beach and breakwater setup like El Playon, consistent on its day, this is a tough run. But things like this happen—a prolonged flat spell. It tends not to stay poor forever, and forecasts can change, so keep an eye out. For now, the gear stays in the shed. If you're desperate for a paddle, the board might be better for a flat-water cruise than a surf.
