The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch. We're looking at a full 16-day window here, and for the vast majority of it, there’s just nothing doing. The combined wave energy reads a flat zero (0) for almost every session, and the conditions are either glassy but flat, or choppy and cross-onshore with that afternoon thunderstorm risk. It’s a quiet spell.
The only break on the radar, El Playon, is a sheltered beach and breakwater setup that’s best for beginners. It’s consistent, but it needs a NNE swell to really work. We get a quick tease right at the very end. On the morning of Sunday the 6th of September, we finally see a pulse. A tiny 0.3ft swell from the N with a short period of 8 seconds pushes the combined energy to a measly 1. The wind is glassy from the NW, which is a huge positive – it’ll be clean. But folks, that’s a ripple. It’s not going to be fun. If you’re a total beginner and just want to sit on a board in the warm water (83°F), about average for the time of year, you might get a laugh. But for anyone else, don’t bother.
The rest of the 16 days? A blank. A full two weeks of flat, poor surf conditions. It’s a bummer, but it happens. The afternoon winds are a nightmare, mostly cross-onshore from the ENE, and there’s zero energy to work with. The spot is sheltered, so it doesn’t grab anything. For sure, this looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle board right now.
There’s no standout session here. The only thing worth noting is that glassy morning on the 6th of September, but with waves that small, it’s a non-event. Keep the board waxed and wait for the next system.
Rusty.
