The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window for El Corniche is a tough one to love. We’re looking at a long, dry spell to kick things off, and honestly, most of the month looks like a write-off for anything decent.
The first proper chance of a wave doesn’t show up until Saturday morning, the 25th of July. Even then, it’s a bit of a consolation prize. We’ll have a weak, short-period NNW swell pushing in around 3 ft, and the combined energy is a paltry 119 (weak energy). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the south, which should keep the surface pretty clean, but the swell is short-period (7 seconds) and the break is described as "rarely breaks," so it’s a gamble. The water is a warm 82°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
After that, it’s back to the same old story. Through the rest of July and into the start of August, we see onshore and cross-onshore winds from the NW and NNW dominating. The swell heights hover around 2 ft to 3 ft, with periods rarely getting past 6-7 seconds. The combined energy mostly stays in the low double digits, meaning weak, gutless surf. The conditions are consistently described as "poor" with nothing worth paddling out for.
The best chance for a standout might be on Saturday morning, August 1st. There's a bit more juice in the water with a 4 ft NW swell (8 second period) and energy jumping to 267 (moderate wave energy). The wind is light and onshore from the NW, which is a shame, but it’s the biggest and most energetic pulse of the entire forecast. The water temp is still unseasonably warm, but with the onshore flow, it’ll be a bit lumpy. Given the "rarely breaks" consistency, this is a long shot, but it’s the pick of a very poor bunch.
Honestly, if you’re looking for clean, rideable waves, this stretch looks more interesting for a kite session than a paddle session. It’s a grim run. Wait for the next forecast.
