Table - best surf conditions forecast for Eastbourne over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s break it down in feet and miles per hour.
It’s gonna be a slow start. These first few days are pretty grim for a paddle, with very small, mostly wind-affected waves and a lot of slop. We’ve got a stretch from Saturday the 11th right through to about Friday the 18th where it’s just not worth getting wet unless you’re desperate – there’s barely any worthwhile energy. The wind is mostly fresh and messy, especially around Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th when it’s honking from the NNW with cross-off winds and hardly any swell to speak of. The combined energy is way down in the dumps, often under 50. You’d be doing more sitting than surfing.
Now, things start to get interesting around Sunday the 19th. We see a pulse of swell come in at 8 feet from the SSE, but the period is short, only 7-8 seconds, and the wind is strong, so it’s going to be a messy, blown-out wall. Monday the 20th is when the tide turns. Clean conditions with light winds, and a steady 4-foot south swell with a period of 11-12 seconds rolling in. The combined energy jumps to a strong 676-867, meaning there’s proper power behind it. That’s your first real chance at some fun, clean waves, and the afternoon looks glassy from the WSW. That’s a seriously good window.
The standout, though, is a week later. On Thursday the 23rd we get a jump in size to 7-8 feet from SSW, but the real gem is the morning of Friday the 24th. That morning we’ve got a 13-foot south swell at 10 seconds with moderate offshore wind from the north. The combined energy hits a massive 3597 – that’s a powerful, solid groundswell. It’s expert territory for sure, way too big for beginners, but for the experienced crew, that’s going to be a serious session. The afternoon stays huge at 15 feet, but the wind goes cross-off, so the morning is the pick.
Eastbourne (Eastbourne) is a reef and point break, and it rarely breaks, so when it lines up like this, you have to make the call. The optimum swell direction is from the south, and that’s exactly what we’ve got. A long period swell like this (10 seconds plus) loves a point break setup, so the shape should be better than a beachie. The water temp is around 54°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so don’t expect any thermals.
This is a week where patience pays off. The first week is a write-off, but the 20th and especially the 24th are the real deals.
