Table - best surf conditions forecast for Costa Nova over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Costa Nova has lined up for us. I’ll be straight with you – the next two weeks are a tough watch. We’ve got a long, dry spell of poor conditions to start, and only a couple of fleeting moments that might be worth paddling out for.
The first real shot at anything decent comes on the morning of Wednesday the 15th. After days of weak, messy surf, we get a brief window of glassy conditions. The swell is tiny at only 3ft out of the west with a short 6-second period, and the combined energy is weak (78). But with the wind gone glassy, it will be clean. It’s not exciting, but it’s the first time the ocean hasn’t looked like a washing machine.
After that, it’s back to the grind. We see the swell pick up significantly from the NNW around the 18th, but every session is ruined by onshore or cross-shore wind. By Saturday the 18th, the swell is building to 6ft with strong energy (338), but it’s lumpy and cross-onshore. Not good. This trend continues right through the following week.
We hit a wall on the 21st of July. There’s a huge pulse of swell from the NNW, pushing 10ft to 12ft with monster energy (818 and 1531). The wind even goes favourable for a moment, but that swell is way too big for Costa Nova. This is expert-only territory, and honestly, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing at those sizes.
The closest we get to a real standout is the morning of Thursday the 23rd of July. We’ve got a clean 6ft swell from the NNW with moderate energy (439) and glassy conditions thanks to a light WNW wind. The swell period is a short 8 seconds, so it won’t have much punch, but it’s the only morning in the whole run where the wind is totally off and the size is manageable. If you’re a competent surfer and you’ve been waiting, that Thursday morning is your best bet. It’s a long way off, so keep an eye on it.
For the rest, you’re looking at small, weak, or blown-out surf. There’s a couple of mornings with clean-ish conditions but the swell is simply too small (1ft to 3ft) to do anything on. Costa Nova is a beach and jetty setup, and it’s been a tough run. It won’t stay this way forever, but for now, patience is the name of the game.
Stay salty,
Rusty
