The Lowdown
Alright, it’s your local surf reporter Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s cooking for Costa Nova over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, the first few days are a write-off – Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd look pretty grim with onshore junk and marginal conditions. You’re better off sitting this one out until things clean up.
The real standout arrives Sunday the 23rd morning. Light offshore wind, clean surf, and a solid 5 ft swell rolling in from the west with an 11-second period. That’s proper groundswell energy (combined energy 545) and it’s going to shape up nice on the Costa Nova beach/jetty setup. This is the pick of the first week – get your board and go early.
Next up, Monday the 24th brings a risk of thunderstorms and a bumpy 5 ft SW swell with short 8-second period. It’s messy. Not worth paddling out unless you’re kiting, honestly. That onshore energy (combined 328) is a no-go for a clean session.
Things really turn around on Friday the 28th morning. That’s the big one. A 7 ft NW swell with an 11-second period, light cross-offshore wind, and over 1000 combined energy – you’re looking at powerful, well-stacked lines. This is for experienced surfers only (over 8 ft raw energy) but it’ll be pumping. Mark your calendar.
Saturday the 29th morning sees it dropping but still clean – 5 ft NW, glassy, offshore wind. Nice little follow-up session, though it won’t touch Friday’s power.
From Sunday the 30th onward it dries up fast. Swell fades to 4 ft or less with onshore wind and poor scores. There’s a gap of several days with nothing worth mentioning until Thursday the 3rd of September, which brings a weak 5 ft NNW with short period and cross-shore chop. Not recommended.
Best on offer: Sunday the 23rd morning for clean, fun waves, and Friday the 28th morning for a proper big-swell session – epic if you’ve got the skills.
Rusty.
