Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks at Chapadmalal.
Right now, it’s a slow start. The opening days are ordinary – Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th have small, messy swell with strong, cross-shore winds that are ruinin’ any chance of a clean wave. You’re lookin’ at a blank run for the first few days with nothin’ worth paddlin’ out for. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are still flat and pretty grim with onshore slop.
The first real glimmer of hope shows up on Tuesday morning, July 7th. The wind swings offshore from the WNW at 12 mph and that little 3 ft ESE swell (155 combined energy) cleans right up. It’s small, but glassy clean. For a beginner, that’s your sneaky window. Not a standout for the whole period, just a decent little session.
Then things get interesting. Saturday afternoon, July 11th is where it starts to buzz. We’ve got a 3 ft SE groundswell with a 12-second period – that’s proper long-period energy – and the wind turns cross-offshore from the WNW at 6 mph. The water temp anomaly is about average for the time of year, so nothin’ weird there. The combined energy is strong at 329, and the conditions are clean. This is a real highlight: a long period groundswell, light cross-offshore breeze, totally workable. Just remember, that long period can make it a little fat at a beach break, but Chapadmalal’s a point so it should hold up nicely.
The absolute standout of the whole 16-day run is Sunday afternoon, July 12th. The wind goes glassy offshore from the NW at 6 mph, the swell pushes 4 ft from the SW, and the energy hits 347. It’s clean, it’s punchy, and the wave state is just pure. This is the one to circle on the calendar. Crowds can show up sometimes, so get out early, but the quality is gonna be worth the company.
After that, we get a few more clean days – Monday July 13th has a bigger 6 ft SW swell, but with a short 8-second period and combined energy of 701, that’s strong but choppy. More kite surfing territory than a paddle session. Tuesday July 14th sees a light offshore again with a long-period 2 ft SE swell at 11 seconds, but it’s small.
The last real noise is Sunday July 19th – there’s a monster 7 ft SSE groundswell with a 14-second period. The combined energy is huge at 1883. But that’s way too big for beginners and only for experts who know what they’re doing. Winds are cross-offshore clean, but the size is intimidating.
Overall, the best surf on offer is Saturday afternoon July 11th and the Sunday afternoon July 12th. That’s where the combo of size, direction, and glassy wind lines up perfect. Get on it.
Rusty.
