The Lowdown
Imperial Version
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a good look at the 16-day window for the region. The standout for the whole period is going to be a couple of days at the end, but before we get there, we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag to work through, so patience is key.
The first decent window doesn’t arrive until Friday afternoon, July 17th. The morning is a write-off with light rain and cross-shore wind, but by the afternoon, the wind swings around to a light offshore from the north, and the swell bumps up to a clean 3 ft from the ENE. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it’s a bit lumpy and local, but it’s clean and rideable. The combined energy at that point is moderate (225), so it’s not packing a huge punch, but it’s a start.
We then hit a gap. The next real chance doesn’t come until the following Wednesday morning, July 22nd. This is where things get interesting. The wind goes glassy, right off the sea, and we’ve got a nice 5 ft swell from the ESE with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is strong (378), and the water is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year at 51°, which is nice. This is a proper clean session, and the best surf on offer in the first half of the outlook.
After that, the forecast gets a bit messy again with onshore winds building through the weekend. Then we get to the real standout. Saturday morning, July 25th, is a beauty. The wind is a light offshore from the west, and the swell has built to 6 ft from the south. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it’s a bit of a wind-swell combo, but it’s clean and has some push. The combined energy is strong (396). This is the best of the lot. It’s a bit too big for beginners, but for anyone with a bit of experience, it’s a go.
The following days, July 26th and 28th, also offer some clean, offshore conditions with solid swell, but the 25th is the real highlight. The break here is Chapadmalal, a point that’s fairly consistent and exposed to the SSE swell. The crowds are sometimes an issue, so keep an eye out, but it’s a fun spot.
The very end of the window, on July 28th, shows a decent 4 ft groundswell from the ESE with a very long 13-second period. That’s a lot of energy (481), and it’s clean with a light offshore wind. This is a promising long-range option, but it’s a week and a half away, so keep an eye on the updates.
Rusty out.
