Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chapadmalal over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for our local stretch.
Honestly, the next week and a half looks pretty grim. We’ve got a long, frustrating gap of poor conditions ahead. For the first few days, the swell is small and weak, with a combined energy that barely gets going (46 to 87). The wind is a constant cross-off, which would normally be fine, but the waves are just too small and weak to get excited about. It’s not until the morning of Monday the 20th that we finally see a real pulse of energy, with SSE swell building to about 4ft, but it’s hobbled by onshore and cross-onshore winds, making it a messy, choppy affair. This pattern of building swell and poor wind holds through the next week.
The biggest standout in the whole 16-day window doesn’t arrive until the very end. On Tuesday the 28th, we finally get a proper clean window. The morning brings a 5ft SSE swell with a long 14-second period and a light offshore breeze from the NW. The water is sitting at a touch warmer than normal, around 51°, which is a nice bonus. The combined energy is a solid 802 (moderate but with quality). That’s the session to circle on the calendar. The afternoon holds up too, with a 4ft SSE swell, 13-second period, and a clean offshore breeze. After all that junk, this is the real reward.
If you’re a beginner, those biggest days toward the end of the month (like the 24th and 25th) push over 7ft, which is going to be too much for you. The best day for you is that Tuesday the 28th, with the 5ft swell and clean, offshore wind. The break at Chapadmalal is a point break, so it’s a good setup for that long-period groundswell energy, and it’s rated for beginners. It can get crowded here sometimes, so don’t expect an empty lineup.
For the rest of the run, the wind is just awful—onshore or cross-onshore with heavy rain and strong breezes, especially on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th. That kind of power and wind would make the beach setups more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
So, to sum it up: we’ve got a long, dry spell of poor conditions, but the light at the end of the tunnel is Tuesday the 28th. That’s your best bet. Keep your eyes on the forecast, but for now, that’s the one to go for.
Rusty.
