Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chapadmalal over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break it down.
Right off the bat, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – this forecast is a tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of small, weak, and often messy conditions. The water’s running a bit warmer than usual for winter, sitting at about 51°F, but that doesn’t mean the waves are gonna be warm and friendly. They’re not.
The only break on the menu is Chapadmalal, a point that’s good for beginners and pretty consistent. But for the first week, the swell is tiny and the wind keeps shifting. Sunday the 12th, you’ve got a 3ft ESE swell, but that cross-on southerly breeze is going to chop it up. Not pretty. Monday the 13th is the pick of the early bunch – a 4ft ESE swell with a cleaner cross-offshore wind, making for a decent session if you’ve got a longboard. Swell energy is moderate at 368.
Tuesday the 14th shows offshore wind in the afternoon, cleaning up the 3ft waves, but the energy is weak (112). Still, glassy conditions always get a thumbs up.
The real standout here is Monday morning the 13th at Chapadmalal. It’s the most put-together session of the week – clean faces, a 4ft ESE swell, and a moderate cross-off breeze. It’s not big, but it’s the best you’ll get for a while.
After that, it’s a long, flat lull. From Wednesday the 15th through the weekend, the waves barely break 3ft and the periods are short. You’d be surfing ankle-biters.
Then, in the second week, things get big but angry. Around the 22nd of July, we see a massive 8ft to 10ft swell from the SSW and S, with massive energy numbers like 1963. That’s expert-only territory. But the wind is screaming – 50 km/h (31 mph) on Wednesday morning and 45 km/h (28 mph) in the afternoon. On a point break, that’s not surfable for a paddle; you’d be better off with a kite. The period on that is around 11 seconds, so there’s some power, but it’s crossed-up and messy.
So, the one bright spot is Monday the 13th morning – small, clean, and the most rideable. The rest of the time, you’re waiting for the wind to calm down or the swell to sort itself out. Forecasts can flip, so don’t write it off completely, but right now, it’s a patience game.
Rusty.
