Alright, Rusty again. Let’s break down what’s coming at Chapadmalal.
Right now, we’re looking at a dead start. Monday is a total dud – strong onshore winds, chop, and weak little waves (179). Don’t bother.
Tuesday the 7th of July is when it gets interesting. The morning brings a clean cross-offshore breeze with a moderate 1 ft SSE swell at 8 seconds (380 energy). It’s short-period, so don’t expect heavy waves, but the surface is clean. The real highlight is Tuesday afternoon. The wind turns offshore, light from the NW, and the waves smooth out into a clean, glassy 0.8 ft ESE swell at 9 seconds (209 energy). That’s your best window – small but perfect for beginners or a relaxed session on the point. Crowds can show up sometimes, so get out early.
From Wednesday the 8th through Saturday the 11th of July, it’s a rough stretch. Mostly onshore winds, weak energy (mostly under 250), and poor conditions. A few clean moments pop up, but the swell is tiny. Not worth suiting up.
Sunday the 12th of July brings a bump of 2 ft SE swell (564 energy) but it’s blown out by a stiff onshore wind. Choppy and ugly. Only for the hardcore.
Monday the 13th of July has a 2 ft SE swell with a 12-second period (719 energy) but cross-onshore wind makes it choppy. Marginal. Tuesday and Wednesday the 14th and 15th of July are clean with cross-offshore NW winds, but the swell is tiny, around 0.8 ft to 1.0 ft, with low energy. Maybe a longboard session.
Looking further out, Saturday the 18th of July shows promise – 1 ft to 1 ft from the E at a short 7 seconds (320 / 283 energy), with a light cross-offshore breeze. Clean conditions and good surf expected. Short period will keep it a bit mushy, but still fun.
Sunday the 19th of July has a bigger 2 ft E swell (865 energy) but it comes with heavy rain and a strong cross-onshore wind. That’s a blown-out, lumpy mess. Not for beginners. Monday the 20th of July is the biggest – 2 ft from the ESE at 12 seconds (1150 energy) – but straight onshore wind at 30 km/h. Big, raw, and messy. Experts only. Tuesday the 21st of July has a 2 ft ESE swell (582 energy) with a light cross-shore breeze and slight chop. Marginal, but a possible look.
Best bet: Tuesday afternoon, July 7th. Small but clean, offshore, and the most user-friendly surf of the whole forecast. Runner-up: Saturday the 18th – clean, moderate swell, but that short period keeps it from being a standout.
Expect a long dry spell from Wednesday the 8th through Friday the 17th of July – over a week of not much to get excited about.
Rusty.
