The Lowdown
Righto, the long-range forecast is a bit of a mixed bag for Chapadmalal. We've got a pretty quiet start, nothing to get excited about for a good stretch. The first real chance of a wave comes in, but it's small, and the conditions are ordinary. Don't get your hopes up for the first week and a half.
The standout here is the morning of Friday the 24th of July. That's the one to circle. The swell is coming in solid at 7.9ft from the SSW, with a nice long period of 12 seconds – that's proper groundswell. The wind is light and offshore from the WSW, so it's going to be clean. The combined energy is a massive 2473, so there's some serious power in the water. But, and this is a big but, at that size, Chapadmalal is just too big for beginners. It's an expert-only window that morning. It's a shame the wind swings onshore in the arvo, because that morning session has the potential to be the best on offer by a long shot.
The water temp is sitting at 50.5° which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so you might not need the thickest wetsuit.
Saturday the 25th of July morning also has a decent 4.9ft swell from the S, with clean offshore winds, but the combined energy (410) is a lot less than the Friday. It's surfable, but not in the same league.
After that, the forecast drops away again. We get a few small, clean days but nothing with any real push. The 29th of July morning has a glassy 3.3ft swell, but it's weak. The rest of the run into the start of August looks flat and poor.
The best advice: if you're an experienced surfer, be ready for the morning of the 24th of July. For everyone else, it's a waiting game.
