Table - best surf conditions forecast for Chapadmalal over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next week or so is looking pretty grim. The surf is gonna be small, weak, and the wind is just not playing ball. We’re looking at a proper lull here. The first few days are a write-off, with choppy, cross-onshore junk and energy readings down around 250 to 400 (moderate), but it’s just messy. Saturday and Sunday the 12th and 13th? Same story – poor conditions and not worth the paddle.
Things start to flirt with us around Monday the 13th. The wind swings offshore and the wave heights are tiny, around 3ft, but the period is a nice 12 seconds from the ESE. The energy is low at 245 (moderate), but it’s clean. That’s a little tease, but not really a goer with the size.
Tuesday the 14th is a bit of a head-scratcher. Clean offshore wind from the NNW, but the swell is only 2ft with an 11-second period. The energy has dropped to just 100 (weak). It’s surfable, but you’re gonna be working hard for small, ordinary waves. Not a standout.
After that, we get another dry spell. Wednesday the 15th to Tuesday the 21st is a real patch of nothing. The swell is tiny, the wind is all over the shop, and the energy is weak. There’s a little spike on Saturday the 18th with 4ft from the ENE (8 seconds) and 278 energy (moderate), but it’s a gamble with risky weather.
Now, here’s the real story. The best of the entire forecast is a solid week away, on Wednesday the 22nd. The morning at Chapadmalal is looking magic. The wind is glassy – a perfect 3 mph from the NE – and we get a clean 3ft swell from the SSE with an 11-second period. The combined energy is a solid 401 (moderate). It’s clean, it’s glassy, it’s a point break setup for beginners. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there. That’s your window.
After that, the swell really starts to pump. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th see a big jump in size, hitting 8ft from the ESE and SE. The energy jumps to 963 and then 1488 (strong to very strong). The wind is clean and offshore, but here’s the catch – that 8ft is too big for a beginner-friendly spot. This is for the experienced crew only. The period is around 9 to 11 seconds, which is groundswell, so it’ll have some punch. Saturday the 25th keeps that energy up at 1767 (very strong) with a 8ft swell and 12-second period. Again, expert-only territory.
So, to wrap it up: the first week is a total bust. Your best bet is the morning of Wednesday the 22nd for clean, small, glassy waves. If you’re an expert, the end of the second week (23rd to 25th) has some serious size, but it’s going to be a heavy handful.
Rusty.
