Playa Honda Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, listen up. We're in for a slow couple of weeks, no two ways about it. The start of this stretch is a total dud. We're talking days of small, weak, and messy surf. The winds are all over the place, mostly cross or onshore, and it’s just not worth the effort of getting wet. If you’re jonesing for a wave, you’re better off finding a skate spot or just staring at the ocean from the sand.

The first real sniff of anything with a pulse comes on Monday, the 11th of August. Even then, it's marginal. There's some energy in the water, with the combined reading hitting 413 on Tuesday morning, but the wind is blowing cross-shore from the east. It’s going to be lumpy and bumpy. You might get a few if you’re keen, but it’s not going to be pretty. We're looking at waves around 3 to 4 feet from the SSE with a 12-second period. It’s surfable, but it’ll be a fight.

Then it’s back to the grind. From around the 12th through the 16th, it’s just poor. The swell drops out, the energy is weak, and the wind continues to mess everything up. This is a classic poor spell for the area. Just one of those stretches where there’s nothing on offer.

But hold on. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s shining on Monday the 17th of August. This is the one to keep an eye on. It’s far out, so don't get too excited yet, but the forecast is showing some real potential. The swell is due to push up to around 5 feet. The energy is moderate at 186, but the big deal is the wind. It’s looking light and offshore, out of the ENE. That’s the first time we've seen a clean wind forecast for a solid swell. This is the standout. Clean conditions on a bigger wave at Playa Honda (Lanzarote) could be a lot of fun. The swell direction is ESE, which isn’t the absolute best for the spot, but with that offshore wind and clean conditions, it could well be the best day of the whole period. A solid 5 feet is getting a bit more serious, so maybe not for the beginners, but for anyone with a bit of experience, this is the one.

The following days, Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th, the winds are still looking good from the north and northwest. The swell will drop back down to under 3 feet, but if it stays clean, there will be some fun little waves to be had. Just smaller, but clean.

So, to sum it up: the first week and a half is a total loss. Don't even bother. But circle Monday the 17th on the calendar. That’s the one day with real potential. It’s far from a sure thing, but it’s the best shot we’ve got. And remember, the water is running much warmer than usual for August, so you can probably ditch the booties.
