The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here, and we’re gonna talk about Cala della Morte (Santa Marinella) .

Honestly, this stretch looks rough. It’s a point break that doesn’t break often, and this 16-day snapshot confirms that. The water is cooking at 27°, a full 4° warmer than normal—that’s way off the charts. The first bit of action shows up Friday the 11th, but it’s barely a pulse: 0.5m from the WSW, a short 5-second period, combined energy is weak (24), and you’ve got a 15 km/h cross-on wind making it choppy. Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th stay tiny—0.4m down to 0.1m—with messy sideshore breezes. The only clean look is Sunday morning the 13th with a 0.1m glassy surface, but you’d be scratching for a ripple.

Then the tap shuts off. From Monday the 14th all the way through Tuesday morning the 22nd, there is zero swell. Flat. Dead calm. Some glassy mornings, sure, but no waves to speak of. That’s over a week of nothing.

A feeble little bump pops up Thursday the 17th with 0.5m from the WSW, but the wind is onshore or cross-on, and the period is barely 4 to 5 seconds. Energy readings stay in the teens (12 to 21). Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th are the same story: small, weak, and ugly. Then from Sunday the 20th to the end of the forecast on Saturday the 26th, it flatlines again.

There’s no standout day here. No clean, rideable swell with the right offshore wind. For a spot this advanced and that rarely breaks, you’d need a proper SW swell with clean air, and we just don’t get it. Some of those blowy afternoons might be okay for a kite, but for a paddle surfer, this is a long stretch of nothing. Hang in there—it’ll turn around eventually.

Rusty.
