Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s get into it.
Look, I’m gonna level with you straight up. For the next 16 days, starting from July 5th all the way through July 20th, we are looking at a total flat spell here at Banzai (Santa Marinella). This is a reef break that needs a proper SW swell to really work, but there just isn’t any energy coming in. The swell is tiny—nothing over 1.0ft—and the wave period is a short, weak 4 to 6 seconds, giving the water no push at all.
There are several gaps in the forecast with absolutely nothing to recommend. For example, from the morning of July 6th through the morning of July 7th, and again from the afternoon of July 8th through the morning of July 11th, the combined swell energy is often zero (0). Even when there is a tiny bump, the energy reading is pathetic—like 2 or 6 (weak). We’re talking about a 16-day window where every single surf session is rated as “poor surf conditions.” Not one of them is worth paddling out for.
The wind does go glassy or light at times, like on the morning of July 6th, July 7th, and July 12th, but it doesn’t matter—you can’t surf with no waves. The water temp is about average for this time of year, but that’s little comfort.
This is a blank run that is normal for an exposed reef that just isn’t getting any love from the ocean right now. If you’re desperate, the absolute best (and I use that word loosely) might be the morning of July 18th when there’s a 1.0ft NW swell and glassy conditions, but the combined energy is only 5 (weak). It’s a tiny, weak, close-out. Leave the board at home for a while. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a write-off.
Rusty.
