Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at Anglet - Les Dunes. This stretch is looking pretty slim, to be honest. For the next 16 days, the waves are small and conditions are messy more often than not. There’s no real standout all-rounder, but I'll walk you through what little there is.
The pattern is a mix of small, weak NW to WNW swells with periods mostly between 8 and 11 seconds. The first usable spot comes on Saturday morning, 4 July. We’ve got a slight bump of 4ft from the NW with a 10-second period, but the wind is cross-on from the NW at just 3 mph. The combined swell energy is 225 – moderate. It’s a marginal call, though, with the water temp sitting at a very unusual 74°F, which is much warmer than normal for the time of year. Despite the size being okay for beginners, that cross-onshore wind will put a few ripples on the surface.
Sunday morning, 5 July is the best of the bunch early on. Swell is tiny at 2ft from the NW, but the period stretches to 11 seconds, which is nice and long. The wind is glassy – dead calm from the NE at 3 mph. The combined energy is only moderate at 133. It’s surfable, but small and very ordinary. A good time for a longboard or a foamie if you just want to get wet.
Then we hit a long dry gap. From Sunday afternoon all the way through to Friday morning, 10 July, the surf stays below 2ft, wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and energy drops to weak (values in the 30s to 60s). There’s a glassy moment on Friday morning, 10 July, with 2ft from the WNW, 9-second period – clean but tiny.
Sunday morning, 12 July, another small spike appears: 4ft from the NW, 10-second period, combined energy of 216 (moderate). Wind is light cross-on from the NW. Again, it’s marginal, not a classic day. After that, it’s back to small, poor conditions for the rest of the second week. Wednesday morning, 15 July, has 3ft from the NW with a 10-second period and a light cross-off breeze from the NE – that one is clean but again, very ordinary.
Honestly, for the whole 16 days, nothing gets above 4ft and wind never aligns perfectly offshore for any length of time. The best you can hope for is Sunday morning, 5 July, for the glassy, long-period dribble, or maybe Sunday morning, 12 July, for a little more size but with a cross-on breeze. Neither is a real standout.
There’s not much here for paddle surfing. If the wind picks up as it often does on the afternoons, this beach setup could look more interesting for kite surfing than for a surfboard.
This is a quiet period for the area. It tends not to stay poor for long, so keep an eye on the forecasts.
Rusty.
