Alright, let’s get into it. For the next 16 days, Anglet - Les Dunes is serving up a lot of small, tricky conditions, but there is one true standout window that’s worth the wait. The rest of the run is mostly small, onshore-chop city for beginners, so keep the expectations in check.
Right off the bat, Friday morning (3rd July) has a glassy 3 ft NW swell with periods around 9 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate (193). For a beginner-friendly beach break, that clean, glassy start is about as good as it gets for the first few days. By afternoon, though, it jumps to 4 ft but turns into a cross-onshore mess. Saturday and Sunday stay small and choppy, with only a fleeting clean window Sunday morning on a tiny 2 ft NW swell (energy 134). Monday morning (6th July) offers another glassy morning, but it’s only 2 ft with weak energy (65). The surf is marginal, but the wind is right.
Then we hit a real dry spell. From Tuesday the 7th right through to Monday the 13th, the swell stays below 3 ft, the winds are either onshore or cross-onshore, and energy readings hover between 38 and 124. That’s a solid week of pretty ordinary, small, lumpy surf. The only exception is Saturday morning (11th July) with a clean 2 ft WNW swell (energy 73), but it’s barely a ripple.
Now here’s the standout. Tuesday morning, the 14th of July. A 2 ft WNW groundswell with a very long period of 13 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to a solid moderate (224). The wind is glassy off the NE. That long-period swell is the kind that brings proper shape and push, especially for a beach-and-reef setup like this, and with glassy conditions, it’s the cleanest, most fun surf of the whole forecast. Crowds are possible, so get there early. After this window, it’s back to small, messy, and cross-onshore for the rest of the run, with nothing else standing out.
Rusty.
