Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cooking for Anglet - Les Dunes over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: this outlook is a tough one. We're staring down a long stretch of pretty average to poor conditions. There's a real dry spell here. From now, the 4th of July, all the way through to Wednesday the 16th, it's just one "poor surf conditions" call after another. A few of those days have a hint of something surfable but nothing to get excited about. You’ll be waiting a solid week and a half before we see any real change.
The first session that might be worth paddling out for is the Sunday morning of the 5th of July. The swell drops to a tiny 2ft from the NW with a decent 11-second period. The real story is the wind: it's glassy! A total glass-off. The combined swell energy is weak (138), but when it's that clean, you can have some fun on a longboard. Looks like a dawn patrol special for the diehards. The water is sitting at a balmy 74°F, which is a whopping 7° warmer than normal for this time of year – that's very unusual, so a wetsuit won't be needed.
Monday the 6th of July morning gets a nod for "surfable waves". The swell is still small at 2ft from the NW, but we get a clean offshore wind from the ENE. It's a light breeze, so it’ll hold up nicely. The energy is really weak though (65), so it's small, clean, and cruisy.
Honestly, the best window in the whole 16 days looks like it'll be around a week and a half from now. We're looking at Friday the 17th of July and Saturday the 18th of July. On Friday the 17th morning, the swell bumps up to 4ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 258. Still, the onshore wind from the W keeps it messy and the report says "poor surf conditions". Friday afternoon is a bit better with the same size but a cross-offshore breeze. Then Saturday morning the 18th of July is the real standout. The swell hangs around 4ft from the NW, and we get another glorious moment of glassy conditions. The energy is still strong at 180, and it's glassy. For this break, that's the pick of the bunch. For a beginner spot like Les Dunes, these small, clean days are perfect. Crowds are "sometimes" an issue here, so on that glassy Saturday morning, expect company.
Sunday the 19th of July drops back down, and the conditions go ordinary again.
So, to bottom line it: we've got a long, flat, and choppy period ahead. Don't expect much until that weekend of the 17th-18th of July. The standouts are the glassy mornings on Sunday the 5th and Saturday the 18th of July, with the nod going to the 18th for having a bit more size and energy. Keep your expectations in check, but don't write it off completely. Forecasts can always change.
Stay frothy,
Rusty
