Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anglet - Les Dunes over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here, looking at the upcoming swell window for our local stretch.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – this forecast is a tough one to read. For a long stretch here, it’s pretty bleak. We’ve got a lot of days where the conditions are just ordinary at best, and downright messy most of the time. The good news is there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel, but you’re gonna have to be patient.
The pick of the entire 16 days, and honestly the only real standout, is Anglet - Les Dunes on the morning of Thursday, 24 July. After a long run of poor surf, the morning shapes up nicely. We’re looking at a clean 3 ft swell out of the northwest, and the real magic is the wind – it’s glassy, dead calm. That’s a major positive for a break that can get chopped up. The combined energy is strong (272), so you’ll feel some push. At this size, it’s great for a wide range of surfers. With the break being exposed to the west and the swell coming from the northwest, it should line up nicely. Just a heads up, it can get crowded here sometimes, so get in early.
Now, before that, the wait is real. After a little bit of small, clean but ordinary swell on the morning of Friday, 10 July, and a glassy session Saturday morning, 11 July (2 ft from the WNW with very weak energy of 102), it really starts to go south. From Saturday afternoon all the way through to Wednesday, 23 July, it’s a total write-off with poor surf conditions, messy cross-onshore winds, and tiny weak swell. You’re looking at a solid two-week patch with nothing worth paddling out for.
The Saturday morning, 11 July is worth a mention though. With clean 2 ft waves from the WNW, an offshore breeze, and glassy conditions, it’d be a nice little session for a beginner or someone on a log. The water temp is sitting at 75°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s over 5 degrees above average, so it’s like bath water for July.
Thursday morning, 24 July is the one to circle. I’m talking about that glassy 3 ft NW swell. The rest of that day, and the following days, get messy with cross-onshore winds again, so it’s a very narrow window.
Hang in there, folks. That 24th is your day.
