The Lowdown
Alright surf’s up… or maybe not just yet. Let’s look at the whole picture for the next couple of weeks.
The 16-day window kicks off with a real letdown. We’ve got a stretch of tiny, junky surf and onshore winds that’s going to test your patience. From the 17th through the 28th, it’s a pretty bleak run. There are a few mornings that might look okay on paper, but the swell is just too anemic, with heights mostly under 3ft and periods under 8 seconds. That’s just not going to do anything for us. The energy is weak, too, with the combined swell energy reading mostly in the single or double digits (6 to 83) for that whole stretch. You’re better off finding something else to do.
The only real highlight in this entire run is the Sunday morning of the 29th. It’s still not a massive day, but it’s the best we’re going to get. We’re looking at a 3ft swell from the NNW with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps up to 131, which is a noticeable step up from the gutless junk we’ll be dealing with before. The wind is light out of the NW, and it’s listed as `on`, but with that light breeze, it could clean up a bit. But even then, the forecast notes “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions.” So, it’s not a day to write home about, but it’s the best option on the board, especially after that long flat spell.
Agami’s a beach break that’s exposed to the north, and the optimum swell direction is N. That’s a bit of a problem because all this forecast swell is coming from the NNW or NW, which is cross-onshore or onshore for this spot. That’s why everything looks so poor. The crowds are listed as `sometimes`, so you might get a bit of space, but it’s not going to be worth it for this dribble. Also, this spot `rarely breaks`, so don’t get your hopes up. Given the weak swell and constant onshore wind, this setup looks way more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer for most of this period.
So, keep your expectations low. The first ten days are a wipeout. The morning of the 29th is your best bet, but it’s still just a small, marginal day. Beyond that, the following week is a total write-off as the swell drops back to nothing. We’ll need a serious change in the weather pattern to get this place going.
