The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get real about what's coming our way.
Honestly, this is a tough stretch for us. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty flat and blown out. We've got a long dry spell ahead, with almost nothing worth paddling out for until we hit the very end of the run. The first real glimmer of hope doesn't show up until Tuesday, September 1st, and even then it's a bit of a gamble.
The water at Agami is sitting at 84°F which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that's about the only nice thing I can say.
Let's walk through it. From Wednesday the 19th right through to the end of August, it's a total write-off. We're seeing tiny, short-period windswell from the NNW and NW, mostly under 2 ft, with periods of 4 to 7 seconds and weak wave energy. The wind is all over the shop, mostly cross-onshore or onshore, leaving the surface a mess of ripples and chop. It's just plain poor surf conditions day after day. There's a brief tease on Tuesday morning the 25th with a marginal call and 2 ft, but the onshore wind kills it.
The pattern finally starts to shift heading into the first week of September. Tuesday morning, September 1st, is the only standout in the whole 16-day forecast. The swell is going to push up to 6 ft from the NNW, with a period of 8 seconds and a moderate wave energy reading of 384. The wind is a light cross-onshore, which is workable. It's still a marginal call, but it's the best we're going to get. The afternoon looks worse with onshore winds picking up, so get on it early if you're keen. By Wednesday the 2nd, the swell will drop off again, fading back to the poor stuff through the rest of the period.
All in all, this is a quiet pattern. The one bright spot is that Tuesday morning, September 1st, where you might snag a few shifty waist-high runners if you're willing to hunt for them. Otherwise, keep the board in the shed and wait for the next system.
Rusty.
