The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s on the cards.
First off, straight up – there’s nothing worth paddling out for over the next week and a bit. We’ve got a long dry spell ahead, with basically no decent surf on the horizon until late in the forecast period. The water temp at Agami is sitting at 82°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so if you’re just having a swim, it’s lovely – but for surfing, it’s a hard watch.
Agami (Red Sea) is the only break in the mix, and it’s a beginner spot that rarely breaks. That alone tells you it’s not the kind of place you’d normally circle on the calendar. The first recommendation doesn’t come until Wednesday 15 July, and even then it’s a big no‑go: 6 ft swell from the NW at 8 seconds, a fresh 19 mph onshore wind, and the combined energy is a moderate 418 – but the wave comment is “poor surf conditions,” so you’d be silly to bother. The whole of that week is the same story: onshore winds, short period swell, and scores that are barely registering.
We finally get a tiny glimmer on Saturday 25 July, morning. The wind swings offshore from the SE, light at 6 mph, and the swell is a clean 5 ft from the NNW with an 8‑second period. The combined energy is 238 (moderate), and the wave comment says “expect good surf conditions.” For a spot that rarely breaks, this is the standout. But don’t get too excited – it’s a one‑session wonder, and the afternoon turns messy with a cross‑onshore.
Then Sunday 26 July morning is the other half‑decent moment: glassy conditions with the wind from the SW at just 3 mph, swell at 4 ft from the NNW (7 seconds), combined energy 154. It’s described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” so it’s a maybe – not a must‑paddle.
After that, it’s back to onshore winds and poor surf for the rest of the run, right through to Thursday 30 July. The best on offer? Honestly, that Saturday 25 July morning session is the one to aim for – clean, offshore, a little bit of energy – but you’ve really got to want it. For the rest, it’s a kite‑surfing kind of setup if anything, with onshore winds and poor quality.
Rusty.
