The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let me tell you straight up: it’s a tough stretch ahead for Agami. The next 16 days are looking pretty flat and lifeless, so don’t get your hopes up too high. There’s a big gap in the action right now, with nothing worth paddling out for from today through to the end of the month. The first real sniff of anything comes in on Friday the 28th, but even that’s a marginal call.
The water is running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 84°, so at least you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
Friday 28th August – The morning shows a tiny bit of life with a 4 ft swell from the NW, period of 7 seconds, and a light cross-onshore wind from the W at 6 mph. The combined energy is weak (99). It’s a marginal forecast, and the conditions are just light cross-onshore with small wind ripples. Not a classic, but if you’re desperate, you might find a small, lumpy wave. The afternoon picks up to 4 ft with a longer 8-second period and moderate energy (143), but the wind swings onshore from the WNW at 12 mph, making it pretty messy. This is a beach break setup, and with the wind and short period, it’s honestly more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Saturday 29th August – The morning stays similar: 4 ft from the NW at 8 seconds, with a glassy calm start (NW 3 mph). The energy is moderate (143). The glassy conditions are a major positive, but the swell is still small and the period short. It’s a marginal day. By afternoon, the wind picks up onshore from the NNW at 12 mph, and the zone goes quiet again.
Sunday 30th August – Swell drops to 3 ft from the NW, period 7 seconds, with a light cross-onshore from the N at 6 mph. Another marginal morning, but nothing to get excited about.
Then another dry spell rolls in. From Monday 31st August through Wednesday 2nd September, the swell is tiny – under 3 ft – with short periods and onshore winds. The combined energy stays below 40. Just flat and blown out.
Thursday 3rd September – Swell builds a little to 4 ft from the NW, period 7 seconds, but the wind is onshore from the NW at 9-12 mph. The energy is moderate (184), but the quality is poor. Not a goer.
Friday 4th September – The morning has a 4 ft NW swell, period 8 seconds, with a light onshore breeze from the WNW at 6 mph. The energy is moderate (206). It’s a marginal call, but the wind is lighter, so you might get a few clean-ish waves if you’re lucky. The afternoon goes onshore and messy again.
Saturday 5th September – The swell drops to 3 ft from the NW, period 7 seconds, with a light cross-onshore from the NNW. Another marginal morning, but nothing special.
The last few days of the window, from Sunday 6th September onwards, the swell fades to nothing – under 2 ft – with onshore wind. The zone goes completely flat.
Honestly, the best window in this whole 16-day outlook is the Friday 4th September morning. The swell is 4 ft from the NW, the period is 8 seconds, the wind is light onshore, and the energy is the highest of the run (206). But it’s still a marginal call, and the break is exposed to the north with an optimum swell direction of N, so the NW swell won’t be firing perfectly. The break is rare and inconsistent, so even a small window is a bonus. Expect crowds though, as it’s a sometimes-crowded spot.
For the rest of the time, save your energy. The setup is more suited to kite surfing when the wind is up and the waves are small and choppy.
Stay patient.
Rusty.
