Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
Honestly, I’m pretty gutted to say this, but we’ve got a long run of tough conditions coming up at ADs/Doubles. The whole 16-day outlook is a bust – there isn't one session I’d paddle out for. The swell shows up, sure, but the wind is relentless, blowing from the ENE at 18 to 25 mph nearly every day, and it’s cross-shore or worse. That means lumpy, chopped-out ocean with zero chance of getting a clean wall.
Right from Saturday, July 4th, through to the end of the window on Sunday, July 19th, every record is marked as poor surf conditions. The combined swell energy is in the moderate range, hitting 706 on the 4th afternoon, climbing to a strong 1030 on Monday, July 6th afternoon, but with that wind, it’s just messy power. The swell period is mostly short (6-8 seconds), windswell junk, so there’s no shape or push worth chasing. The water temp is around 79°F with a normal anomaly of just 0.7°F, so that’s about average for the time of year, but you won’t be in the water long enough to enjoy it.
There is one tiny flicker of hope on Thursday, July 16th morning, when a 2ft SSW groundswell with a very long 16-second period shows up, but the wind is still cross-onshore at 18 mph. For a beach-and-reef setup like ADs/Doubles, that long-period groundswell is going to break too straight and get torn up by the breeze. Honestly, with the consistent ENE wind and all this short-period chop, this setup looks way more interesting for kite surfing than for paddle surfing.
Nothing worth paddling for in this 16-day stretch. It’s a big ol’ gap of zero recommendations. Don’t lose hope though – forecasts can turn, and it tends not to stay this poor forever.
Rusty.
