Table - best surf conditions forecast for ADs/Doubles over the next 16 days.
G'day, I'm Rusty. Look, I've got to be straight with you—this outlook for A-Ds-Doubles is a tough one to write. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a write-off for decent paddle surfing. The onshore wind machine is stuck on repeat, and we're looking at a long, frustrating stretch.
We start with Tuesday the 7th of July, and right away it's a no-go. There's swell—around 8 ft from the ENE—but it's getting hammered by a strong cross-shore breeze at 25 mph, turning the ocean into a lumpy, cross-chop mess. It's not surfable. The water's just on 80°F, which is pretty average for this time of year. This grim pattern, with strong winds and messy conditions, just locks in for days and days. Every single slot from that Tuesday through to the afternoon of Tuesday the 14th is the same story: solid amounts of swell, but the wind ruins it. The energy is moderate to strong, but it's all for nothing. The afternoon of Tuesday the 14th sees the wind drop a little and swell ease to 6 ft, but it's still cross-shore and lumpy.
There's then a weird little blip on the morning of Wednesday the 15th—a tiny 2 ft swell from the SSW with a super long 18-second period. That's a groundswell, but the wind is still a problem, and the size is so small it's barely a ripple. It doesn't change the grim outlook.
From late on the 15th onwards, we get back into ENE windswell. For the rest of the first week and into the second, the pattern holds: fresh to strong cross-shore winds. The swell does get bigger again from the 18th through the 22nd, with waves hitting 8 ft on Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th, and the wave energy shooting up. But it's all cross-shore wind—never a clean, glassy day. At over 8 ft, this is expert-only territory anyway, and with the onshore chop, it'll be a battle. For a beach or beach-and-reef setup like this, the whole situation looks more interesting for kite surfing than a proper paddle session.
So, there's no standout day. Not one. It's a solid 16-day run of poor conditions. The only hope is that forecasts can change, but for now, leave the boards at home.
Rusty.
