The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's be real, it's a tough stretch ahead at A-Ds-Doubles. For the next couple of weeks, the wind has a nasty habit of coming in from the ENE or NE at moderate to strong speeds, keeping the surface lumpy and messy. The good news is, we've got a long fetching stretch of ENE swell that builds up nicely over time, but the wind just kills it for paddle surfing. The water is about 80°F, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real chance of anything half-decent doesn't show up until the very end of the run. We're looking at a long, quiet spell with poor conditions through most of August and into September. The only glimmer on the horizon is the morning of Wednesday, 2nd September. We get a long-period groundswell from the south, coming in at 4ft with a period of 19 seconds. That's a super long period, which means thick, powerful lines. The combined swell energy is a massive 1699, so there's plenty of grunt behind it. Wind is a gentle NE cross-shore at 9 mph, so it should clean up nicely. That's the standout for the whole forecast – a quality, long-period south swell with light wind. Just keep in mind, with a period that long (over 15 seconds), the sets will be very defined and the gaps long. It might break a bit straight, but for a spot like this with an open exposure, it should have some shape. The afternoon of the 2nd also looks okay with a 4ft south swell, but the period ticks down to 18 seconds and the wind picks up a touch.
Before that? August 27th Thursday morning sees the swell peak at 10ft from the E with 8-second period, but with a fresh ENE cross-shore, it’s going to be a wind-blown, lumpy mess. That size with that wind is more of a kite-surfing show than a paddle session. Honestly, for a good 10 days leading into that, conditions are rated as poor.
So, to sum it up: The 16-day window is dominated by a persistent cross-shore wind pattern that keeps A-Ds-Doubles in rough shape. There is no surf worth chasing until the 2nd September. That south groundswell is the real deal, but it's a long way out, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
