Table - best surf conditions forecast for ADs/Doubles over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let me level with you about ADs/Doubles over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, it’s a pretty grim picture for the foreseeable future. We’re staring down a long, dry spell for any decent waves. The wind is locked in from the ENE, blowing hard and cross-shore, which is tearing up what little swell we have. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Starting this Saturday, July 11th, and running all the way through to Friday, July 24th, the surf quality is just poor. The swell is mostly in the 5ft to 7ft range, but it’s short-period, wind-affected stuff coming from the ENE, and that 25 mph wind is making a mess of things. The wave energy is moderate, with readings showing up to 764, but it’s useless with that cross-shore wind. It’s lumpy, choppy, and not worth paddling out for.
There is one date that catches the eye, but it’s a long way off. On Saturday morning, July 25th, things might just clear up enough for a look. The wind drops to 16 mph from the NE, still cross-shore, but the swell hits 5ft from the ENE with a period of 7 seconds. It’s marked as marginal, but the energy is moderate (551). The biggest catch here is that first thing in the morning, the wind is lighter and the swell bumps up to 6ft. It’s still a beach break, and the optimum swell direction is from the ESE, so the ENE swell isn’t ideal, but if the wind stays manageable, there might be a few. Crowds are possible here, but with the way the forecast looks, I wouldn’t expect a packed lineup.
The rest of the run-in on Sunday, July 26th, looks like the wind swings cross-onshore and blows the hopes out of it again.
So, if you’re holding out, keep an eye on Saturday, July 25th. That’s your best bet, but don't get too worked up about it. This area is prone to runs like this, so it’s not unusual to see a blank stretch.
Rusty.
