The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down, Rusty style.
First few days? Forget it. Starting Thursday the 20th, we’ve got a tiny 2-foot SSW swell with a super long 18-second period, but the wind is a messy cross-breeze, making it all chop and no shape. Not worth the paddle.
Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd see a little bump from the ENE, but it’s short-period junk – around 7 seconds – and the wind is fresh to strong cross-shore, so it’s lumpy and ugly. Sunday the 23rd through Tuesday the 25th, the swell builds to 5–6 feet, but still that short period and strong cross-winds make it a total washing machine. The combined energy is moderate to strong, but it’s all wind-driven chop.
Honestly, from the 20th all the way up to the 2nd of September, it’s just poor or marginal. The one bright spot? Wednesday afternoon, the 2nd of September. The wind goes clean, cross-offshore from the NNE, and you’ve got a solid 7-foot NE swell with a 9-second period. Energy is moderate (853). That’s your best window. It’s not for beginners – over 6 feet is expert territory – and the shorter period might make it a bit walled up, but if you’re skilled, that afternoon could be really clean.
The water temp is about 80°F, right on average for the time of year, nothing weird there.
Crowds? Given it’s often busy here, that clean afternoon will draw a crowd.
Anything else? The tail end of the period, the 3rd and 4th of September, shows some swell but with onshore wind again, so it’s not promising.
So, one real standout: Wednesday afternoon, the 2nd of September. Everything else is a write-off thanks to constant cross-winds. That’s the call.
Rusty.
