Well, grab a coffee, because I’ve got to tell you straight up – this is one of those outlooks where we’re mostly just watching the ocean do its thing without much to get excited about. Looking at the whole 16-day window for A-Ds-Doubles, the honest truth is the surf quality never really comes together. We’ve got plenty of swell energy coming through at times, with combined energy readings hitting some big numbers – like 1064 on Saturday the 4th of July morning – but the wind is the main story here, and it’s not a good one.
For the entire run, the wind is locked in from the east-northeast, blowing at 19 to 25 mph, nearly always cross or cross-on. That’s a fresh to strong breeze that’s going to leave the surface lumpy, choppy, and messy. So even when there’s decent swell, the ride quality is shot. The wave comment for every single session in the file is “poor surf conditions,” and I’m not going to sugarcoat it – that’s the reality.
We start on Friday the 3rd of July with a 5 ft NE swell and 8-second period, but the 19 mph cross-wind kills it. Energy is moderate at 649, but you’re fighting chop all day. Saturday the 4th flips to a S swell, 2 ft with a very long 21-second period – that’s a proper groundswell, and the combined energy jumps to 1064, but the wind is still 22 mph cross. That long period might create some shape at a reef or point, but with that wind, it’s a write-off.
Things actually get a bit bigger early the following week. Sunday the 5th morning shows a 7 ft ENE swell, period a short 7 seconds, energy 979. Monday the 6th morning has 7 ft ENE, 7 seconds, energy 950, and by the afternoon it’s 8 ft with energy over 1000. Tuesday the 7th holds 8 ft ENE again. That’s enough size to be too big for beginners, and at that height with short period, it’s going to be a close-out at a beach break. But honestly, it doesn’t matter because the wind is still a nasty 22-25 mph cross the whole time. The ocean is just a mess of cross-chop. If the wind was offshore, this would be a different conversation, but it’s not.
The second week from around the 11th of July onward, the swell backs off, dipping to 2 ft to 5 ft, mostly from the ENE or SSW, with some long-period SSW pulses on the 12th (16 seconds, energy 608) and 15th (18 seconds, energy 461). But again – same wind issue. Every session is cross or cross-on, fresh to strong breeze. Not one single window of glassy or offshore wind.
So here’s the deal: there is no standout session. No hidden gem. The entire 16-day forecast is a gap of poor quality. The wind is the villain here, and it never lets up. For a break like this, with all that onshore energy and lumpy conditions, honestly the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It’s not what any of us want to hear, but sometimes the ocean just doesn’t cooperate. Forecasts can change, but for now, I’d save the wax.
