All right, this is Rusty, and I’m looking straight at what we’ve got for A-Ds-Doubles over the next couple of weeks. And honestly, mate, I’m going to keep this real for you – it’s a tough stretch. There’s a gap right from the start with no surf worth paddling for, and we don’t get a true, clean recommendation until we push through the whole 16-day window. For about the first two weeks, every single entry is a “poor surf conditions” call. That’s a long, dry spell.
From July 3rd onward, the wind is hammering out of the ENE, mostly a fresh to strong cross-shore breeze at 18–25 mph, which just tears the surface up. The swell pops up over 7 ft a few times mid-week, but the period is short, in that 7–8 second range, which is pure windswell – no shape, no power, just bumpy lines. The combined energy hits moderate levels into the hundreds, even hitting 1056 on Tuesday the 7th afternoon (strong wave energy), but with that cross-wind and short period, it’s messy and lumpy. Not something you want to be out in on a standard board, unless you’re on a kite – and honestly, the setup does look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing through most of this, given the consistent wind and often overhead, short-period swell.
Around July 12th and 13th, the swell drops a bit, with the height around 3 ft to 4 ft, but the period switches – we get a few notable long-period pulses from the SSW, with 16–21 seconds, which brings in proper groundswell energy. The combined energy still reads in the 400s to 900s (moderate to strong), so there is deep water energy moving through. But the wind remains cross-shore or cross-onshore at 12–22 mph, and the comment is still “poor surf conditions.” That long-period, straight-running swell will break pretty flat and close out at a beach break, which A-Ds-Doubles is, so it’s not to its advantage. You’d want a point break or reef for that.
There’s really only one spot that stands out, and it’s not even during the first week. On the afternoon of July 13th and the morning of the 14th, for a couple of pockets, the wind eases to a moderate 9–12 mph, and the swell stays around 4–5 ft from NE and ENE. That’s your best window. Still cross, but less wind equals less chop. The energy is weak by then – only 154 to 277 combined – but if you can sneak in, the smaller swell will at least be rideable on a longboard.
Later, on July 18th (Saturday), the swell picks back up to 5 ft from ENE, period 7 seconds, with combined energy at 616 (moderate), but again the wind is a fresh cross-onshore 18 mph. The setup is lumpy and poor. That’s still not a green light.
So here’s the honest word: there is no standout in this 16-day forecast. No day where everything clicks. If you *have* to paddle, keep your eyes peeled for July 14th or the morning of the 15th, early, when the breeze is lightest. But even then, we’re just talking about something to push a board around on, not a session you’ll write home about.
Rusty out.
