The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for ADs/Doubles and the surrounding area over the next couple weeks. I won't sugarcoat it – this stretch is a tough one. We've got a lot of wind and not much in the way of good, clean surf for a long while.
First up, this spot is fairly consistent and exposed to swell, which normally would be a good thing. But the problem is that ENE wind is blowing almost constantly – cross-shore, cross-onshore, it's all messy. The combined swell energy is mostly moderate to strong, especially later on, but with that wind it just doesn't matter. It creates a lumpy cross-chop that ruins the wave face. So for the first week and a half, it's a write-off.
We’re looking at a gap from now right through until around July 25th with nothing rideable unless you're a fan of whitewash. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Now, around Saturday July 25th morning we start to see a glimmer. The swell is still a bit raw from the ENE at 7 ft with a 8-second period, but the combined energy is still hefty. It's still marginal though – that cross-shore wind is a killer.
The pick of the entire 16-day window looks to be on Monday July 29th in the morning. We get a 6 ft ENE swell with a 12-second period, so there's some decent groundswell there. The combined energy is strong, and while the wind is still cross-shore from the ENE, it's down to a moderate breeze at 16 mph. It's the most surfable call in the whole run. It's not perfect, but it's the best we've got on the table. For a spot like ADs/Doubles that is fairly consistent, this kind of blank run is a bit of a downer, but the swell is there – we just need that wind to drop. Keep an eye on it.
Rusty, out.
