The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get real about ADs/Doubles. The next couple of weeks are a rough stretch.
The first week, from Wednesday, August 19th through the weekend, is basically a write-off. The wind is all wrong – strong cross-shore – and the swell is short-period slop. The combined energy is just moderate, but the wind chops it all up. Not worth wetting a wetsuit.
We get a little tease on Thursday morning, August 27th, with some longer period south swell, but the wind is still cranking cross-shore, so it’s just lumpy and unrideable.
The one true highlight, and the only serious window, is Tuesday, September 1st. We’ve got a major swell from the east pushing 10 feet, with a period of 13 seconds – that’s real groundswell energy. The combined energy reading is a massive 3039 – that is strong juice. The catch is the wind is still cross-shore at 30+ km/h, so it’ll be bumpy on top. At that size, it’s strictly for experts only. Crowds are likely, because everyone with the skills will be out.
After that pulse, the swell backs off, but the wind stays relentless, so the rest of the forecast looks like blown-out junk. For most surfers, I wouldn’t bother planning around this. The whole run is so cross-shore and choppy that it’s really only interesting for the kite boarders. But, you never know – forecasts can change.
