Alright, let’s get into it. Rusty here, giving you the straight-up outlook for A-Ds-Doubles.
Honestly, for the next couple of weeks, the surf scene here is pretty ordinary. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing special to work with. The whole show’s running ENE wind, blowing strong and cross or cross-on day after day, which just tears the surface to bits. First off, from Wednesday July 8th right through to the morning of Monday July 21st, every single session is marked as poor surf conditions. That’s a long, flat run of messy, lumpy, cross-chop. The swell hangs around in the 6 ft to 8 ft range, but with the wind howling between 19 mph and 25 mph and that short, weak period (7 to 8 seconds), it’s just a washing machine.
The water temp sits at 79°F with a normal anomaly of 0.4°F, so nothing unusual for this time of year, but you’d be hard pressed to enjoy it with that wind.
Now, the only glimmer comes right at the tail end of the outlook. Look at Tuesday and Wednesday, July 21st and 22nd. We see a shift: a proper groundswell from the south sneaking in. On the Tuesday morning, there’s a long period swell of 16 seconds and combined swell energy hitting 1631 (strong). That’s the real deal for wave shape and power – just what A-Ds-Doubles needs when it’s exposed to an ESE optimum. Swell size is only around 4 ft from the south, but the period is long. That said, the wind is still a cross-shore from the NE, around 16 mph, so it’s not perfect, and the conditions are described as marginal. The following Wednesday shows a similar but weaker pulse from the east with a 14-second period, and energy at 834 (moderate).
If you’re waiting for a standout, Tuesday July 21st morning is your best bet. That’s a day when you might get some cleaner, longer lines if the wind lays off a bit, but don’t expect perfection. Given the strong cross-winds that dominate most of the period, the only real hope is that early Tuesday window. For the rest – unless you’re into kitesurfing in strong cross-breeze, this stretch is pretty flat for paddling.
Rusty.
