Table - best surf conditions forecast for Zandvoort over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s on the cards for Zandvoort over the next few weeks.
Honestly mate, it’s a pretty grim run for the most part. The first week and a half is mostly flat or tiny, and the wind just won't play ball. We've got a long dry spell with no decent recommendations until the back end of the period. The water temp is sitting at 69.3°, which is a whopping 7.9° warmer than average for this time of year – that's very unusual, you’d feel it for sure.
Right from Sunday 12 July, it’s small and messy. Monday morning the 13th has a tiny 2.3ft from the NNW on a cross-onshore breeze, just choppy and poor. This sort of weak, inconsistent pattern drags on through the middle of the week. On Tuesday morning the 14th, the wind goes cross-offshore which keeps it clean, but the swell is barely a knee-high 2.0ft with only 26 (weak energy). Wednesday and Thursday the 15th and 16th are similar – clean but tiny, with swell energy dropping to single digits. Friday the 17th goes dead flat with a brief offshore breeze but only 1.0ft, not worth paddling out.
The best of a bad bunch looks to be Tuesday 21 July. That morning we’ve got an offshore breeze from the ESE, and the swell bumps up a touch to 2.3ft from the north with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is 60 (weak), and while it’s described as surfable but very ordinary, that offshore wind is the best wind of the whole forecast. It’ll be clean. But don’t get too excited – it’s still only a small, weak swell and the break is inconsistent and exposed. Crowds are possible there.
The rest of that week goes downhill again with onshore winds and lumpy conditions. Even when a stronger swell shows up on Thursday 23 July afternoon – 4.9ft from the WSW with period 7 seconds and solid energy of 205 (moderate) – the wind is cross-shore and messy, so it’s poor. And on Friday 24 July, the swell jumps to 6.9ft from the WNW with energy in the 500s (strong), but again it’s a cross-shore gale. At that size with that wind, Zandvoort is a beach setup and it’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddling. Definitely only for experts if you try it.
So, to be straight with you – there’s no true standout session here. The only window with decent wind and a wave is the morning of Tuesday 21 July, and that’s still small and ordinary. For the rest, I’d keep the board in the car.
