The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at the Zandvoort forecast.
Honestly, mate, the outlook for the next 16 days at Zandvoort is a tough read. The whole window is a long stretch of no-go conditions. For nearly two full weeks, the wind and swell are simply not lining up for anything rideable. It’s a real bummer.
We start on Wednesday the 19th of August. The water is sitting at 70°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, a real anomaly. But that's where the good news ends. We've got a tiny 2ft swell from the NNW, with a short 5-second period. The energy is weak (20), and with a moderate breeze blowing onshore, it's just lumpy and poor. This pattern sticks with us through the following days. The swell stays small, the period is short, and the wind is all over the place – onshore, cross-onshore – just tearing it up.
Into the weekend of August 23-24, we see a little drop in size, and on Monday the 24th, we finally get some clean conditions with light to moderate cross-offshore winds, but the swell is down to 1ft. It’s basically flat. Tuesday the 25th offers some offshore wind, but with a 0.7ft swell and a combined energy of just 3, there’s nothing to ride.
The middle of the second week sees a tiny pulse on Wednesday the 26th with a 3ft swell from the WSW, but again, the wind is messy. Then we get a real tease. On Friday the 28th of August, a proper swell shows up: 6ft from the NW with a 7-second period and moderate wave energy (305). It's the biggest swell in the whole window. But the wind is cross-onshore, making it choppy, and it's still rated as poor surf conditions. It's more of a windy mess than a clean wave.
We finish out the period into early September with more of the same – some clean offshore winds here and there, but the swell is gone, and when a 10ft swell finally arrives on the 2nd of September, it's hammered by a fresh cross-onshore. That's big, raw, and ugly – not for paddling.
Honestly, for the whole 16 days, there isn't a single standout. The setup here, with the beach and sandbar, is getting hammered by constant onshore winds. It looks more interesting for a kite session than paddle surfing. The place just isn't offering anything worthwhile.
