Table - best surf conditions forecast for Windmills over the next 16 days.
Alright, let's break it down. This 16-day stretch for Windmills is a real bummer. We're looking at a long, dry spell with no proper surf on the cards.
The whole problem is that damn cross-shore wind from the ENE. It's blowing 19 to 22 mph most days, just tearing the surface apart. The swell is coming from the wrong direction, ENE and NE, when this spot needs it from the NNW. The period is short, mostly 6 to 8 seconds, so it's just weak, choppy windswell that won't wrap into the reef. The energy is moderate, but the quality is zero.
The water is 79°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing weird there.
There's one tiny window of hope on the 18th of July, Saturday morning. A 7ft swell from the ENE with a slightly longer period of 9 seconds, and the wind goes cross-offshore, which cleans it up. The energy jumps up. That's the only session that gets even a "marginal" rating. But it's a 7ft wave on a reef with a cross-offshore wind – that's serious, expert stuff. If you're a local charger who knows the reef, it might be worth a look, but it's a long way out and the forecast is shaky.
Everything else is just the same story. The swell gets a bit bigger on the 18th afternoon, hitting 8ft, but the cross-shore wind ruins it again. The last week fades out completely, with the energy dropping to weak levels. The period spikes to 17 seconds on the 21st of July, but it's only a 2ft swell – a total tease that won't break on the reef.
Honestly, this is a complete blank run. There is nothing here for the average surfer. The only reason to even think about it is if you're an expert who's willing to gamble on that Saturday morning session. Otherwise, save your energy. The forecasts can always change, but right now, Windmills is a washout.
