Table - best surf conditions forecast for Waihee over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this one’s a tough pill to swallow. We’re looking at Waihee, a reef and point set-up that usually has its moments, but over this whole 16-day stretch, it’s just not happening. There is no good surf on offer right now, and the outlook stays grim all the way through to Wednesday, July 22.
The problem is a relentless ENE wind blowing cross-on, 12 to 19 mph, day after day. That’s trashing the surface. We’ve got swell hanging around 4 to 7 ft, mostly from the ENE with a short, gutless period of 7 to 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate, sitting between 263 and 514, but it doesn’t matter because the wind is just chewing it all up. The wave comment across every single session says “poor surf conditions,” and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – it is.
There’s no standout period. No window of clean conditions. No break in the pattern. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a rough run. The whole 16 days is a gap with no recommendations. For a reef and point, a long-period groundswell from the NNE would be ideal, but we’re stuck with this short-period ENE slop. If you’re desperate, the last couple of days – around Tuesday, July 21, and Wednesday, July 22 – the swell drops a little to about 4 ft, and the wind eases to 9 mph on the Wednesday afternoon, but it’s still cross-on and choppy. Not worth paddling out for.
Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if you’ve got the gear. But for a surf? Save your energy. Forecasts can change, but until that wind swings offshore, Waihee is a write-off.
Rusty.
