Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Waihee (Waihee) has on offer. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a rough stretch ahead. There isn’t a single good surf day in this whole forecast window. The first record for any surf starts on Saturday the 4th of July, and from there it’s a long, grinding run of nothing but poor conditions straight through to Sunday the 19th of July. That’s over two weeks of pretty bleak reading.
The issue is relentless cross-onshore wind, blowing from the ENE at 12–18 mph, just chopping everything up. The swell direction is from the ENE, which is the opposite of the optimum direction this spot wants. Swell heights hover around 4 ft to 6 ft, with the combined wave energy ranging from moderate to strong (values between 176 and 407), but it don’t matter when the wind is ruining every face. The period is short, mostly 7–8 seconds – that’s just windswell junk. There is one oddball on the morning of Wednesday the 15th of July where it shows a 2 ft swell from the WNW with a 15-second period (a long period groundswell), but the cross-on wind still kills it. That setup would be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with that constant breeze.
Waihee is a reef and point setup, fairly consistent, but with these conditions it’s just not gonna happen. The crowds are listed as "sometimes" which would be fine on a good day, but not when it’s this messy. For now, it’s a write-off. Don’t bother paddling out until the trades ease off.
Rusty.
