Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s on the menu, and I gotta be straight with you—it’s a bleak outlook for Waihee. We’ve got 16 days of forecast here, and from Thursday 2 July right through to Friday 17 July, the story doesn’t change. Every single session is rated as poor surf conditions, with a solid zero score across the board. That’s a long, quiet run.
The pattern is locked in: consistent ENE swell, short period of 7 to 8 seconds, nothing with any grunt or real shape. The combined swell energy starts at a moderate 217 on the first recommendation, and it bounces around the low to mid hundreds for a while, hitting the 300s and even 401 on Monday 13 July, but the energy is all wind-slop and chop, not proper groundswell. The water temperature here is sitting at 79° with a tiny anomaly of 0.4°, so pretty much normal for the time of year at this spot.
Now, here’s the kicker: every single session has a cross-on wind. It’s mainly ENE at 12 to 19 mph, and the wind state is described as moderate cross-onshore and choppy, or fresh cross-onshore and lumpy. That’s going to make the surface messy and ugly. With the swell coming from ENE, which for Waihee (a reef and point break) is definitely not its optimum direction—this setup likes NNE swell—so the lines are never going to hold. The swell size sits around 4 ft to 6 ft, short period, and cross-on wind just breaks everything up.
Honestly, for a beach-and-reef setup like this with that strong, consistent cross-on, it’s looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. If you’re a surfer, you’re looking at a blank run. There are no standouts here, nothing even close. It’s just one long stretch of junk. I know it’s tough, but for this area, when the wind locks in like that and the swell is short and angled wrong, it’s normal to see this kind of shutdown. Things can flip, but right now, the forecast is solidly against us.
Hang in there, and check back in with me later.
