The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid 16-day window ahead of us at Trigg Point, so let’s get into it.
The week kicks off with a bit of a slow start. Sunday the 23rd is a write-off – bumpy, cross-shore wind and weak energy. The water’s a bit colder than normal for this time of year, sitting at about 64°, roughly 2° cooler than average. Not ideal for a paddle.
Come Monday the 24th, we’re looking at the first real standout. Clear skies, glassy conditions, and a clean 7 ft swell from the WSW. That’s a solid size – a bit much for beginners, but for experienced surfers it’s excellent. The combined energy is pumping, and with that 14-second period, you’re getting proper groundswell. This is your best early option.
Tuesday the 25th drops off with onshore winds and chop, so give it a miss. Wednesday the 26th sees a big jump in size – 12 ft from the WSW, but with a very long 19-second period. That’s serious energy, but the wind is cross-shore and the rain is spitting. This is big, straight-breaking stuff for Trigg Point, so really only for the experts. The swell is too big for most.
We’ve got a bit of a lull through the end of the week, with Thursday and Friday offering clean but smaller waves in the 5 ft to 6 ft range. The wind goes cross-offshore, so it’s clean, but not exciting.
Then the real magic shows up. Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th are pure gold. Moderate offshore winds, clean, and a 6 ft to 6 ft swell from the WSW with a 16-second period. The energy is moderate to strong, and the water will be glassy by Sunday afternoon. This is another standout – get in the water.
Monday the 31st morning is also glassy with a 5 ft swell, but it gets choppy in the afternoon. The first week of September turns messy with onshore winds and rain, so not much to recommend until Friday the 4th.
Now, for the long-range promise. Monday the 7th of September is the big one. A massive 13 ft swell from the WSW, with a 20-second period – that’s exceptional, very long-period groundswell. The combined energy is off the charts. With a gentle offshore wind, this is exceptional surf, but it’s strictly for experts. That’s a size that will swallow a beginner. Keep an eye on this one, but don’t bank on it just yet – it’s far out.
Overall, the best windows are Monday the 24th morning, and then the weekend of the 29th–30th. The 7th of September is a wildcard, but a promising one.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
