Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trigg Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here with a look at what’s coming up for Trigg Point over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a solid run of south-west groundswell on the cards, with the first proper session hitting Sunday morning. The water’s sitting at 64°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – a good 4°F below the average, so you’ll want a decent wetsuit if you’re heading out.
Sunday 12 July: The morning’s the pick – a clean 6 ft south-west groundswell with a 15-second period, light cross-off breeze from the SE. The combined energy is pumping at 1540 (moderate-to-strong), but this swell is set up nicely for a point break like Trigg. That long period means better-shaped waves and longer lulls between sets, making paddling out easier. It’s a bit too big for beginners though. Afternoon turns messy with a cross-shore wind and marginal conditions.
Monday 13 July: Another beauty morning – 7 ft south-west swell, 17-second period, offshore ESE breeze. Clean lines, plenty of energy (2349). This is expert territory size-wise but the waves will be well-shaped. Again, the afternoon gets choppy with cross-shore wind.
Tuesday 14 July: Morning’s clean enough with a cross-off breeze, 6 ft swell (1363 energy). The afternoon actually turns offshore, glassy and clean – 6 ft south-west swell, 15-second period, conditions looking really good for a session.
Wednesday 15 to Thursday 16 July: The quality drops. Wednesday’s got a lumpy cross-shore wind and a smaller 5 ft swell – not worth it. Thursday morning is messy, and by Thursday afternoon, a fresh cross-onshore wind and building 7 ft swell makes for poor, lumpy conditions.
Friday 17 July: Friday morning offers a window – 6 ft westerly swell, 13-second period, light cross-off breeze. Clean enough but not a standout. Afternoon turns poor again with strong onshore winds.
Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 July: This is a wild stretch. Saturday sees a massive 15 ft west-south-west swell with energy readings over 8000-11000, but howling onshore winds make it a total write-off for paddling – that’s more of a kite day, not surf. Sunday drops to 10 ft but still onshore and ugly.
Monday 20 July: Monday morning is the absolute gem of the whole outlook. Glassy conditions (0 wind, calm sea), a clean 5 ft south-west groundswell with 12-second period, energy 715 (moderate). That’s a dream for Trigg Point – clean, manageable size, no wind. A real highlight.
Tuesday 21 to Wednesday 22 July: Smaller swell around 3-4 ft, but clean conditions with light offshore or cross-off breezes. Good for a longboard or a fun smaller wave session.
Thursday 23 July: Thursday afternoon steals the show for the second week – a solid 10 ft south-west groundswell, 17-second period, light NE breeze, and energy cranking at 5818 (strong). This is expert-only size, but the conditions look excellent for those who can handle it.
Friday 24 to Wednesday 30 July: The rest of the run is mixed. Friday and Saturday bring lumpy cross-shore winds and onshore slop. Sunday 26 July is blown out. But Monday 27 July morning gives us another chance – 7 ft south-west swell, 16-second period, clean with light SE breeze, energy 2286 – excellent for experienced surfers.
So the real standouts? Monday 20 July morning – glassy, clean, perfect size for a fun session at Trigg Point. And Thursday 23 July afternoon – big, clean, powerful groundswell for the experienced crew. The rest is a mix of good windows and blown-out days. Keep an eye on those mornings – that’s where the magic is.
Rusty out.
