Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for Bennion Beach Cleggies. This is a reef setup, and it’s an inconsistent one, so when it does fire, you gotta be on it. It’s not a spot you can just rock up to any day and expect perfection.
The water's currently sitting at 65°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want a thicker suit.
The real standout window kicks off on Monday, 6th July. We’ve got a solid 8ft to 8ft swell coming from the WSW, with a very long period of 15 to 16 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy. The combined swell energy is strong, reading between 2895 and 3116. Monday morning sees a clear sky with a cross-off breeze from the SE at 9 mph, keeping things clean. It’s excellent surf, but at this size, it’s for experienced surfers only. The afternoon cleans up even more with an offshore ESE breeze. This is the best of the best on offer.
Tuesday, 7th July, keeps the quality high in the morning. Still clear skies, a light offshore breeze from the E at 6 mph, and that same 8ft, 16-second WSW groundswell (energy 3170). It’s another top session for those who know what they’re doing. The afternoon gets a little tricky with a cross-shore breeze, but still manageable.
Wednesday, 8th July, sees the swell drop a bit to 5ft in the morning, but that period is still a decent 14 seconds. The wind is a cross-shore from the N, making things a little bumpy. The afternoon gets a clean onshore wind, but the wave comment suggests questionable conditions.
From Thursday, 9th July, things start to get messy. The wind swings onshore, and the quality drops right off. Friday, 10th July, is a write-off with strong onshore winds and choppy surf. Saturday, 11th July, morning offers a bit of hope as the swell picks up to 8ft from the SW, with a cross-off breeze from the SSE that will clean it up nicely. That’s a decent session for experienced crew.
Sunday, 12th July, morning is another standout window. A 7ft SW swell, 14-second period, with a light offshore from the E at 6 mph. Clean conditions and solid energy (2097). This is a great option for the weekend.
Monday, 13th July, morning is also a beauty: 6ft SW swell with a long 16-second period and a light offshore E breeze. Glassy conditions (energy 3070). Tuesday, 14th July, morning keeps the run going with a 7ft WSW swell, 15-second period, and a light offshore from the ENE. Clean again.
Now, for the second week, things get a little wild. Wednesday, 15th July, still has some clean surf in the afternoon with a 6ft swell and cross-off winds. But then from Thursday, 16th July, the wind picks up to 19 mph and the surf gets blown out.
Then we hit a major event. On Friday, 17th July, the swell jumps to 13ft from the WSW. That’s huge, over 8ft, so experts only. But the wind is a moderate cross-shore, so the quality is questionable. The energy is massive at 6818, but it’s more of a spectacle than a paddle.
From Saturday, 18th July, onwards, it’s a full-on stormy mess. Swells up to 18ft, howling onshore winds of 28 to 37 mph, and strong to very strong wave energy (over 5000 and even up to 11827). This is dangerous and unsurfable. It would be a better setup for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. That stormy pattern looks set to continue right through to Tuesday, 21st July, with messy, blown-out conditions.
So, to wrap it up: the best windows are the mornings of Monday 6th, Tuesday 7th, Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th, Monday 13th, and Tuesday 14th of July. After that, it's a two-part story: a few more clean windows mid-week, then a major storm hits that will shut the place down for the final days of the outlook. Get on it while you can.
Rusty.
