The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down. We’ve got a solid run of southwest swell at Bennion Beach Cleggies. This reef spot picks up the WSW groundswell real well, and the water temp is about par for the course right now.
The first few days have some real potential, but you gotta pick your windows. Wednesday morning the 19th is a bit messy with a cross-on breeze and 8ft of swell packing a lot of energy. The afternoon is the real standout though—clean, 10ft of pure WSW groundswell, period pushing 15 seconds, and the wind swings straight onshore. That’s gonna be a big, powerful wave, only for the experienced crew. The energy is huge.
Thursday morning the 20th is glassy with 10ft and a 16-second period, but again, that’s too big for most. If you’re a seasoned charger, that’s your moment. Friday morning the 21st is a beauty: offshore breeze from the east, 8ft swell, clean, and excellent for experienced surfers. Saturday morning the 22nd turns glassy with 7ft and a 17-second period, a long, drawn-out groundswell that’ll be magic on the reef, but the sets will be spaced out.
There’s a bit of a lull from Sunday the 23rd through Tuesday the 25th, with smaller, weaker swell and average conditions. Then Wednesday the 26th sees a massive pulse: 12ft at 17 seconds, energy through the roof. That’s a full-on big swell event. Thursday the 27th morning cleans up with an offshore breeze and 8ft, good for the experienced.
The last week of August into early September has some fun windows. Monday the 31st morning has a nice offshore breeze with 6ft swell and good energy. Tuesday the 1st of September has clean conditions all day with 5ft to 6ft, lighter winds, and a nice 14-second period. That’s a good day for a wider range of surfers.
The standout overall is Thursday afternoon the 19th and Thursday morning the 20th for the big, powerful, clean groundswell. If you’re after a more manageable session, Friday morning the 21st or Monday morning the 31st are your best bets. Keep in mind this break is inconsistent, so you gotta be on it when it’s good.
