Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bennion Beach Cleggies over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of swell coming through for Bennion Beach Cleggies, but it’s not for everyone. The water’s sitting at 65°F – a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a hood if you’re out there for a long session.
The first real action kicks off Thursday morning, July 9th, with a clean 8ft swell out of the WSW, period pushing 15 seconds – that’s groundswell. The energy is strong (2354), and the wind is cross-off from the north, so the surface should be clean. At this size, you’ll need to be an experienced surfer; it’s not a beginner’s wave. The reef handles the long period well, but expect some power in each set.
Thursday afternoon gets a bit iffy – the wind swings cross-on and the swell drops to 7ft, but the surface gets choppy. Not worth the paddle.
Friday morning, July 10th, is a sleeper: 6ft from the WSW, 13-second period, clean cross-off breeze from the SSE. The energy is moderate (922), but the conditions are crisp. This is a nice window for a solid session without the intensity of the bigger days.
Saturday morning, July 11th, glassy offshore from the east, 4ft WSW swell, 13-second period – the energy is light (447), but the waves will be clean and fun. Good for a cruise.
Now, Sunday morning, July 12th – that’s the standout for the first week. Glassy conditions, 7ft SW groundswell at 15 seconds, and strong energy (1812). The reef will love the long period, and the surface will be mirror-like. This is for experienced surfers, but if you’re in that bracket, it’s the best call of the period.
Monday morning, July 13th, delivers another corker: 7ft SW swell at 17 seconds – very long period – and light cross-off wind. The energy is 2686, very strong. The reef will handle it, but the sets will be big and powerful. Again, experts only.
The second week sees a few clean windows, like Tuesday afternoon, July 14th, with 7ft WSW groundswell and clean cross-off wind – that’s good for competent surfers. Wednesday morning, July 15th, has a stronger NNE wind at 16 mph, but the swell is 6ft and clean, so it’s still rideable.
But be warned: from July 20th onward, the swell drops and the quality tanks. Monday and Tuesday are poor, mostly small, choppy, and weak. Then on July 23rd and 24th, the swell absolutely rips up – 15ft to 16ft and beyond, with energy hitting 7456. That’s way too big for this reef. It’s a kite-surfing setup at that point, not a paddle wave.
Overall, the best surf is Sunday morning, July 12th, and Monday morning, July 13th. Both are glassy or light off, with big groundswell and high energy. If you’re experienced, don’t miss them.
Rusty.
