Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bennion Beach Cleggies over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s cooking at Bennion Beach Cleggies. This is a reef setup that’s fairly exposed to the swell, but it’s inconsistent, so you gotta be patient. The water’s sitting at 64°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – about 3° cooler, so you’ll feel that difference.
We’ve got some solid groundswell moving in from the SW, with a very long period, but the early part of the week is a bit of a mixed bag. Monday afternoon (13th July) sees 7ft SW swell at 16 seconds, but it’s a cross-shore breeze and the combo energy is moderate (2386). The conditions are marginal, so it’s not the best time to paddle out.
Tuesday the 14th shapes up much better. The morning is cross-off with 7ft WSW swell at 15 seconds and clean conditions, but the afternoon is the real standout. Offshore ENE breeze at 12 mph, same 7ft swell, and the energy is still moderate (1652). This is where it gets good for experienced surfers – clean, lined up, and that longer period will give you proper shape. It’s the best on offer early on.
Wednesday the 15th drops off a bit. The morning has 5ft WSW swell but a cross-off breeze that’s a bit strong at 16 mph, keeping it clean but not as good. The afternoon turns cross-on and choppy, so skip it.
Thursday the 16th is a write-off. Light rain and strong cross-shore winds up to 19 mph, with 8ft SW swell but messy conditions. The energy is moderate (2313), but it’s not worth it.
Friday the 17th is a no-go – onshore winds and a risk of thunderstorms, with the swell dropping to 5ft. Poor surf.
Saturday the 18th gets huge – 13ft WSW swell at 16 seconds, but it’s predicted to be too big for the break. The energy is strong (8002), but unless you’re a top-tier charger, stay away. This is more for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Sunday the 19th is a morning option with 8ft WSW swell and light cross-shore wind, but it’s marginal. The onshore picks up in the afternoon.
Monday the 20th is poor again – strong onshore winds and messy, with the swell dropping to 5ft.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Tuesday the 21st is a beauty. The morning has 8ft WSW swell at 11 seconds with a light cross-off breeze, clean and excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon is even better – glassy conditions, zero wind, 8ft WSW swell at 12 seconds, and moderate energy (1694). This is your second standout session – smooth, clean, and all yours.
Wednesday the 22nd is decent in the morning: 6ft WSW swell at 13 seconds, clean with a cross-off. The afternoon turns cross-on, so morning is the call.
Thursday the 23rd afternoon is a gem – glassy, 6ft WSW swell at a very long 18 seconds, and the energy is moderate (2332). This long-period groundswell will wrap nicely on the reef, giving you long, clean walls. Best for experienced surfers.
Friday the 24th is a ripper. Morning has 7ft WSW swell at 15 seconds, light cross-off, clean, and strong energy (2871). Afternoon is similar with 7ft and a slight air – both sessions are excellent. This is another standout.
After that, the weekend fades. Saturday the 25th is marginal at best, and Sunday the 26th through to Tuesday the 28th is all poor surf with strong onshore winds and rain. The swell drops off and the conditions are messy.
So, the best on offer are Tuesday the 21st afternoon for glassy perfection, and Friday the 24th for clean, consistent swell. Thursday the 23rd afternoon is also a hidden gem with that super long period. Get out there.
Rusty.
