Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bennion Beach Cleggies over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up for Bennion Beach Cleggies. The swell energy over the next 16 days is up and down, with some decent windows but plenty of rough stuff in between. The water’s sitting at 64°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want the 4/3, especially on the dawn patrols.
The first surf worth getting wet for hits Sunday afternoon the 12th. It’s not a standout, but there’s a 6ft SW swell, period at 14 seconds, and the combined energy is strong at 1846. The wind is a cross S at 9 mph, so it’s a bit choppy and marginal. You could get a few, but don’t expect perfection.
Monday morning the 13th is the first real highlight. That 8ft SW swell packs a punch with a 17-second period and a massive 2971 energy reading. The wind is offshore ESE at 6 mph, so the conditions will be clean. This is proper groundswell, and at a reef setup like this, it’ll line up nicely. The size is pushing into expert territory though, so this is for experienced surfers only.
Monday afternoon drops off with cross-shore wind and a 7ft swell, not as good.
Tuesday the 14th, the morning session is okay with a 7ft WSW swell, but the wind is cross-off ENE at 9 mph, keeping it clean. The afternoon on Tuesday is better – offshore ENE wind and the same 7ft swell. Another good window with 1652 energy.
Wednesday the 15th sees the wind pick up. Morning has a cross-off NNE breeze at 16 mph and 5ft swell, but the energy is lower at 1324, and it’s only a marginal call. The afternoon flips to cross-shore, not great.
Thursday the 16th is messy. The morning is cross-shore and lumpy, and by afternoon the wind swings cross-on with rain, making it a write-off. Friday the 17th is a total loss with onshore wind and storms, and the swell starts to build. Saturday the 18th is huge – 15ft SW swell, 11926 energy – but it’s a full-on onshore gale. That’s kite surfing territory, not paddling. That nasty onshore pattern keeps going through Sunday the 19th, Monday the 20th, and Tuesday the 21st with 16-25 mph winds. We’re looking at a solid four-day stretch of poor conditions.
Things start to clean up on Wednesday morning the 22nd. The wind goes light offshore ENE at 3 mph, with a 6ft WSW swell, 13-second period, and 1006 energy. That’s a good little window for a session, clean and manageable. Afternoon gets a light cross-on, not as good.
Now, Thursday the 23rd is a weird one. The swell jumps to 12ft SW with a 17-second period and energy is through the roof at 8336 in the afternoon. The wind is cross to cross-on. The data says it’s too big for this break, so you’d have to be very experienced and pick your spot. It’s promising but uncertain for paddle surfing.
Friday the 24th morning is excellent for experienced surfers. A 8ft WSW swell, clean with a light offshore SSE breeze at 3 mph, period at 16 seconds, energy 3156. That is the standout for the second week – good size, clean, and long-period groundswell.
Saturday the 25th morning is smaller at 5ft SW, clean offshore wind, but not a huge day. The rest of the outlook after the 25th drops off quickly into small, choppy conditions with onshore winds and very low energy, down to 270 on the 26th.
So the best on offer is Monday the 13th morning for a big, clean groundswell, and Friday the 24th morning for another solid window. The middle of the run is a total mess with strong onshore winds and huge swell. Keep your eyes on those two windows.
Rusty.
