Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bennion Beach Cleggies over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Bennion Beach Cleggies. We’ve got a solid run of surf on the way, but it’s not all smooth sailing. The water is sitting at 64°F right now, which is a good 4°F colder than normal for this time of year – so you’ll want a thicker wettie, it’s properly chilly out there.
The action kicks off on Saturday morning, 11 July. We’re looking at a clean 4ft swell from the WSW with a 13-second period, and a light cross-offshore breeze from the SE. The wave energy is moderate (447), and the conditions are clean. It’s a good start, but the swell is on the smaller side. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a cross-shore wind and a marginal tide call, so I’d be on it early if you’re heading out.
Sunday morning, 12 July, is a real standout. The swell bumps up to 7ft from the SW with a 15-second period, the wind is light and cross-offshore from the SE at just 3 mph, and the energy jumps to 1788 – that’s solid. The report says it’s excellent for experienced surfers, and with that long period groundswell, this reef break is going to have some proper shape and power. Just be aware, it’s over 5ft, so it’s not for beginners, and the reef can be tricky. Afternoon gets a cross-shore chop, so morning is the call.
Monday morning, 13 July, is another cracker. We’ve got 8ft from the SW with a 17-second period – that’s a very long period groundswell, and the energy is pumping at 2971. The wind is offshore from the ESE at 6 mph, making it clean. This is expert territory at that size, but the waves will be well-spaced and powerful. The afternoon turns cross-shore again, so nail the early sesh.
Tuesday, 14 July, keeps the good run going. Morning sees 7ft from the WSW with a 15-second period, offshore ENE breeze at 9 mph, and energy at 1655. Afternoon is even cleaner with a light offshore from the E and glassy conditions. Both sessions are rated excellent for experienced surfers. This is one of the best windows of the whole outlook.
Wednesday, 15 July, things start to slide. The swell drops to 6ft, but the wind swings and picks up, creating a cross-shore chop. The quality is marginal, and the afternoon is cross-onshore and choppy. Thursday, 16 July, is worse – bigger swell at 7ft but with a moderate cross-shore breeze and then a cloudy, cross-onshore mess in the afternoon. Friday, 17 July, and Saturday, 18 July, are a write-off with onshore winds, rain, and messy conditions. The swell hits 13ft on the 18th with strong onshore winds – that’s not for surfing, that’s a washing machine.
Now, after that rough patch, we get a second chance. Sunday morning, 19 July, is a beauty. The swell is 8ft from the WSW with a 15-second period, the wind is light cross-offshore from the ENE at 6 mph, and the energy is strong at 3114. That’s top-tier for experienced surfers. Then Sunday afternoon is glassy – 8ft from the WSW with a 14-second period, and wind swinging to WSW at just 3 mph, making it dead flat. That afternoon session could be the cleanest of the whole run.
Monday morning, 20 July, is still decent with a smaller 5ft swell and light cross-offshore wind, but the energy drops to 702. It’s a good option for a more relaxed session. After that, from Monday afternoon through to the end of the outlook on 26 July, it’s a long stretch of poor conditions. The wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, and the swell is either too small or too messy. There’s a big chunk of days here with no real quality surf – a solid week of nothing much to write home about.
So, the real standouts are Sunday morning 12 July, Monday morning 13 July, and the Sunday sessions on 19 July. The best on offer? I’d say Sunday morning 12 July and Sunday afternoon 19 July are the pick of the bunch – that glassy afternoon on the 19th is a rare treat. Get on it, but take your expert board. This is Rusty, signing off.
