The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, ol’ Rusty here with the long-range look for Tracks. It’s a point break set-up that’s gonna take a bit of patience before it fires, but when it does, it’s gonna be a ripper. The water’s sitting at 55.4°, which is a bit colder than we’d usually expect for this time of year, so you might want to dig out that extra rubber.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but Thursday the 16th sees the first proper session. A clean 3ft swell pushing in from the ESE with that 17-second period – that’s proper groundswell energy. With light offshore wind and clean waves, it’s a gentle intro. The combined energy is moderate (540).
Friday morning the 17th is where it starts getting real. The swell jumps to 5.2ft from the SE, period still a solid 16 seconds. It’s absolutely glassy – zero wind – and the energy ramps up to strong (1426). This is a standout morning. The afternoon gets a bit onshore and messy though, so make the most of that glass.
Saturday the 18th keeps the quality high. Morning delivers 5.2ft from the SE with light cross-offshore wind and clean conditions. Energy stays strong (1365). Sunday the 19th is the absolute pick of this first week. Morning sees 6.9ft of S swell pulsing in at 18 seconds, with clean offshore wind. The energy is very strong (3264). It’s excellent, but at this size it’s a session for the experienced crew only who know a point break. The afternoon holds at 6.2ft with cross-offshore wind, still excellent.
Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st keep the fun rolling with good S swells in the 5.6ft to 6.2ft range and clean winds, keeping the energy strong. Wednesday the 22nd starts to ease, with 5.2ft dropping through the day. By Thursday afternoon the 23rd, it goes a bit ordinary with onshore wind, and then we hit a proper flat spell.
From Friday the 24th right through Saturday the 26th morning, it’s tiny or poor. The mid-range gets down to 1ft – a solid few days of nothing worth paddling for.
But hold on. Sunday morning the 26th brings a new pulse: 5.2ft from the SSW, clean and offshore, gentle breeze. Energy moderate (457). This is the re-start. Then Monday the 27th is an absolute juggernaut for the experts. Morning shows 8.2ft from the S at 12 seconds, clean offshore, with very strong energy (2129). The afternoon goes glassy with 7.5ft – unreal conditions, but this is heavy-duty size. Only those who have the skills should even look at it.
That fades quickly into Tuesday the 28th with much smaller 3.6ft waves and ordinary afternoon wind, then a long, drawn-out period of small, weak, or onshore junk through to the end of the month. Final days on the 30th and 31st show some clean 3ft ESE swell returning with offshore wind, but it’s only moderate energy and small – more of a longboard cruise than a standout.
So here’s the verdict: the first standout is Friday morning the 17th – glassy and clean. The absolute best session on offer is Sunday the 19th and Monday the 27th for the experienced crew. Everything in between is either building, fading, or flat.
Stay stoked.
