The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, giving you the same rundown in feet and knots.
Water temp is about 62°F, a touch warmer than usual for this time of year — you’ll feel it.
First 9 days? Dead. Nothing from now until the 23rd of July. Tiny surf, weak energy, and not worth suiting up. The best of that stretch is Tuesday afternoon with 0.5m (2ft) and offshore wind, but it’s just not enough.
On the 24th of July, Spanish Point (reef and point) finally wakes up. Swell hits 1.2m (4ft) from the west-northwest, 11-second period, offshore wind from the east-northeast. That’s clean, lined-up groundswell with good energy. This is for advanced surfers only — the reef means you need to know what you’re doing. Crowds are possible, so plan accordingly.
The 25th and 26th of July keep it going: 1.5m to 1.6m (5ft to 5ft) from the west, light offshore breezes, and solid energy. The 25th Saturday morning and 26th Sunday morning are the standout sessions. Waves will be clean and well-shaped.
By the 27th and 28th, the swell pushes into 1.8m to 1.9m (6ft to 6ft), with energy through the roof. That’s expert territory. The 28th morning looks very good with light offshore wind, but the afternoon gets choppy and cross-onshore. The 29th is a mess with strong cross-onshore winds.
Bottom line: nine days of nothing, then a solid run from the 24th to the 28th of July. The 24th and 25th are your best bets for clean, powerful groundswell. If you’re an expert, you’ll be happy.
Rusty.
