Table - best surf conditions forecast for Spanish Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. I’ve had a good look at what’s on the table for Spanish Point over the next couple of weeks, and I’ll be straight with ya—it’s a pretty quiet run. This is an advanced reef and point setup that needs a solid west swell to fire, and for the most part, we just aren’t seeing it. There are no real standouts here, but I’ll walk you through what little there is.
Right now, we’re starting with a bit of a blank. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are a write-off. The swell is tiny at 4 ft from the west, but the wind is cross-onshore or onshore, and the conditions are just poor. Not worth paddling out. Friday the 10th is even smaller, with swell dropping to 2 ft from the west-northwest, a period of 11 seconds, and a cross-shore breeze. It’s marginal at best, nothing to get excited about. The combined wave energy is moderate (211), but the size just isn’t there.
From Saturday the 11th through to Monday the 13th, it’s flat. Swell sizes are down to 0.7 ft to 2 ft, and while the winds turn offshore or cross-offshore, giving clean conditions, there’s just no power. The energy readings are weak, in the teens and twenties. You’d be better off swimming than surfing.
We get a tiny pulse on Tuesday the 14th, with 2 ft swell from the west, 11-second period, and offshore easterly winds. The water’s still a touch warmer than normal for the time of year at around 62°, which is about a degree and a half above the average—notable but not wild. The energy is weak (91), and the forecast calls it surfable but very ordinary. It’s not going to be any kind of session to write home about.
Then it’s back to flat through to Saturday the 18th. Swell barely breaks 1 ft, winds are all over the shop, and it’s just dead.
Now, on Sunday the 19th, we see a bit of a bump. Swell picks up to 2 ft from the west, period of 10 seconds, with a light cross-shore breeze and clear skies. The energy jumps to moderate (114). It’s still small, but at least the conditions are clean. The wind is light and cross-shore, which is decent for the point. This is the most promising morning of the whole outlook, but don’t expect much more than knee-high runners.
After that, Monday the 20th through Wednesday the 22nd offers a slow build, with swell reaching 3 ft from the west on Tuesday the 21st (energy 186), but the wind turns cross-onshore and choppy. It’s poor again.
Then on Thursday the 23rd, things get a bit wild. The morning is cross-onshore with light rain and 4 ft swell from the west-southwest at 8 seconds—but the afternoon blows up. We see a spike in swell to 7 ft from the west-southwest, with a period of 11 seconds, and the combined energy rockets to very strong (1167). But here’s the kicker: the wind is a fresh cross-onshore at 22 mph, and the forecast says poor surf conditions. For an advanced break like Spanish Point, 7 ft is in the expert zone, and with that wind and lumpy conditions, it’s going to be a messy, blown-out affair.
All up, this is a dry spell for Spanish Point. The only slight glimmer is the morning of Sunday the 19th, with a clean but small cross-shore swell. If you’re desperate and just want a paddle, that’s your window. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this kind of quiet run is a bit unusual, but forecasts can always change.
Rusty.
