The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got one spot on the menu, and it’s a proper reef-and-point set-up that demands some respect. The surf window opens up Sunday morning, the 19th of July, and it’s pretty much game on from there. Water’s sitting at a warm 81°F which is a touch above average for this time of year, so you can leave the thick rubber at home.
Kicking off Sunday morning, the 19th, we’ve got clean 4ft waves from the SW, with a light cross-off breeze. The combined energy is moderate (726). It’s a gentle start, but the quality is there. By Sunday afternoon, the wind goes straight offshore, keeping things tidy.
Now, Monday the 20th is where it starts to get interesting. The morning brings in 6ft of SW groundswell with a long 17-second period, and it’s offshore. The energy jumps into the strong range (2366). This is proper, powerful stuff. It’s an excellent call for experienced surfers only. If you’re not confident in the water, sit this one out. The afternoon holds at 7ft from the SSW.
Tuesday the 21st backs off slightly to a very solid 6ft, still with offshore winds and a moderate breeze. The energy is still well into the three-digit range (1261). It’s very good, but the real standout is that Monday. That’s the one to circle.
The pattern holds through the rest of the week with solid, clean conditions and offshore winds. The swell tails off a bit towards the 24th and 25th, with 3ft–4ft waves, but the wind stays favorable, so it’s still fun. From the 26th, we see a shift to a shorter-period SE swell (8 seconds), which brings a bit of a different feel – less grunt, but still 7ft on offer.
Then, we get into the business end of the window. Heading into the 1st of August, the energy goes through the roof. Saturday the 1st has 6ft–8ft SW swell with a 17–18 second period. The energy numbers are massive (3080–3434). This is a true expert-only zone. The wind is offshore, and the waves are clean. By Sunday the 2nd, we’re looking at 8ft SW swell – that’s big, powerful, and only for the very skilled. The combined energy is off the dial (3252–3388). This is the highlight of the whole forecast. It’s a bit far out, so keep an eye on it, but it’s got the makings of something special.
Monday the 3rd of August follows up with a 7ft SSW swell and a 19-second period, and the energy hits 4640. That’s the biggest number of the whole run.
So, the pick of the weeks? Monday the 20th of July for the first big push, and then the first weekend of August (the 1st and 2nd) for the real heavyweight stuff. Stay safe out there, and know your limits – this reef doesn’t mess around.
Rusty.
