Table - best surf conditions forecast for Downtowns over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s break this down. We’ve got one spot in the mix, and it’s a reef break that’s going to be putting on a show for the next couple of weeks.
The spot is Downtowns, a reef break that’s more for the advanced crew. The water temp is about 82°, which is normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The pattern is a solid run of south-west groundswell with the winds looking good. The wave energy is strong right from the start, with values in the 1700s and 1800s for the first few days. That’s proper power.
Friday the 10th kicks off with clean cross-off winds from the SE at 9 mph, with 6ft to 6ft of SW swell. The period is a long 16 seconds, which is pure groundswell. That kind of period at a reef means long, powerful lines. Crowds are “sometimes” here, so you might have company, but it’s not packed.
Saturday the 11th, the swell drops to 5ft, but the afternoon turns glassy with light winds. The period is 14 seconds, still solid, and the energy is moderate at 962. The afternoon is the pick.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th see the swell ease to around 2ft to 3ft, with glassy mornings and light winds. The period stays in the 12 to 14 second range. The energy is in the 500s and 600s, so it’s weaker, but that glassy morning on Sunday with 3ft and a 14-second period? That’s clean, small-wave reef fun.
Now, the standout period. Tuesday the 14th is the one to circle. We’ve got a 6ft SSW swell rolling in with a 17-second period, and the energy jumps right back up to 2089. That’s strong. The morning is glassy, the afternoon is glassy, and this is the best of the first week. The swell direction (SSW) is a perfect match for the optimum SW direction. Clean, powerful, and long-period groundswell at a reef. That’s the day.
Wednesday the 15th keeps it going with 7ft in the morning, 6ft in the afternoon, and clean cross-off winds. Energy is 2521—very strong. The period is 16 to 17 seconds. This is expert territory, and it’s going to be firing.
After that, Thursday the 16th sees a drop in quality with cross-shore wind and a moderate breeze hitting 16 mph in the afternoon. The energy is still there at 1153, but the wind picks up.
We then get a bit of a lull from the 17th to the 19th, with swell sitting around 4ft to 5ft, light winds, and energy in the 700 to 1100 range. It’s not bad, but it’s not the standout. The mornings are clean.
Monday the 20th brings it back. Morning session has 6ft SSW swell, 16-second period, 2087 energy, and light cross-off winds. That’s excellent. The afternoon gets a bit messy with rain showers and 12 mph winds, but the morning is a gem.
Tuesday the 21st is another absolute cracker. Glassy morning, 7ft of SSW swell, 15-second period, and energy at 1972. That’s big, clean, and powerful. The afternoon stays clean with cross-off winds. This is right up there with the 14th as the best of the run.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd keep the quality high, with glassy mornings, 5ft to 5ft swell, and periods from 14 to 19 seconds. The 19-second period on the 22nd afternoon is very long period groundswell—that’s going to be big, clean, and walled up at the reef.
The final burst comes on Saturday the 25th, two weeks out. Glassy morning and afternoon, 6ft SW swell, 15-second period, and energy at 1476. The winds are glassy, the swell is solid, and the direction is spot on. It’s a long way out, so treat it as promising, but the pattern is strong.
So, if you’re picking the best of the best, it’s Tuesday the 14th and Tuesday the 21st. Both have glassy conditions, big swell, long period, and strong energy. The reef is going to be absolutely on.
Stay safe, watch the crowds, and enjoy the ride.
