Table - best surf conditions forecast for Downtowns over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's look at what's coming up.
Alright, look, we’ve got a solid run of surf on the cards. The first swell is already showing up, so we’re straight into it. The standout is clearly Downtowns, a reef break that’s fairly consistent. We're looking at a strong, long-period SW groundswell pushing through, with a juicy 1727 combined energy reading. The water temperature is about average for the time of year.
Friday, July 10th kicks things off with a 6ft SW swell from the southwest, with a 16-second period. It’s a clean setup with cross-offshore winds, so it’s got that nice shape. This is expert territory at 6ft, and it’s a reef break, so you better know what you're doing. The energy is solid (1727).
Saturday morning, July 11th is probably the pick of the first week. We’ve got a 5ft SW swell, still a long period of 15 seconds, but the wind is glassy. Completely smooth. It’ll be a bit more manageable than Friday size-wise, but still a serious wave for experienced surfers. The energy is still robust (1435).
Saturday afternoon drops slightly to 5ft SW with a 14-second period and glassy conditions again. The wave energy is moderate (962).
Sunday, July 12th sees the swell drop right off to 3ft, still glassy. Good for a smaller board session, but the power is gone (592).
Monday morning, July 13th is a similar story with 3ft SW swell and glassy conditions. The afternoon gets interesting with a tiny 3ft swell but a very long 21-second period. That’s a groundswell pulse, and it’ll be clean with cross-off winds. The energy is decent (827).
Now, Tuesday, July 14th is a legitimate standout. The morning has 6ft SSW swell, a 17-second period, and glassy conditions. The energy is strong (2114). The afternoon is even better with the same size, a 6ft SSW swell, 18-second period, and offshore winds. That’s a dream forecast for the advanced crew. The energy is very strong (2473).
Wednesday, July 15th keeps the quality high. Morning shows 7ft SSW swell with a 17-second period and clean cross-off winds. The energy is very strong (2523). The afternoon is 6ft SSW with a 16-second period, glassy, and clean. This is a long stretch of world-class conditions.
Thursday, July 16th is still good, with 5ft SSW swell, but the wind is cross-shore in the morning, so the shape won’t be as perfect. The afternoon gets offshore winds, cleaning it up nicely.
The second week is still promising, but less certain. Friday, July 17th brings 4ft SW swell with clean conditions. Saturday, July 18th has 5ft SW swell, clean again. Sunday, July 19th is a solid 4ft SW swell with offshore winds in the afternoon.
Monday, July 20th is another big one. Morning has 7ft SSW swell, a 16-second period, and clean cross-off winds. The energy is strong (1904). The afternoon holds the same size, but with some rain showers.
The run fades out after that. Tuesday, July 21st has 6ft SSW swell but a cross-shore wind in the morning, and the wind gets offshore in the afternoon. The rest of the week sees the swell drop steadily, with one last nice glassy window on Friday, July 24th showing 4ft SW swell and a 16-second period, with glassy conditions. The energy is good (1403).
Saturday, July 25th ends the run with a 4ft swell but cross-onshore winds, so that’s a miss.
This is a reef break, and it’s for experts. The crowds are listed as "sometimes", so you might have some company, but it’s not a circus. The long period groundswells can make the waves suck out a bit more at a reef, so keep your wits about you. The best windows are the glassy mornings of July 11th, and the entire day of July 14th and July 15th.
Rusty.
