The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk about what we’re looking at.
We got a dry spell at the start. The first week or so is mostly weak and choppy. The one real golden window doesn’t show up until Saturday morning, August 15th at Quijote Inn Peak.
That Saturday is the crown jewel. Swell comes in at about 4ft from the SW with a 16-second period – that’s some quality long-period groundswell. The combined energy is solid at 663 (moderate to strong). But the real kicker is the glassy wind – absolutely dead calm. For an advanced break like this one, that’s going to give you clean, smooth lines. Crowds might show up *sometimes*, so be ready.
The few days before that are mostly mediocre. Thursday afternoon, August 6th, we see about 3ft of SW swell, but cross-onshore winds mess it up.
The week of August 11th through 14th brings more energy – swell around 3ft and periods stretching to 18 seconds, with combined energy as high as 812 (strong). But the wind stays cross-onshore or onshore, so it never really cleans up. Friday morning, August 14th gets a score of 2 out of the data, but the wind is still light and cross-onshore, so it’s still not perfect.
After that Saturday peak, it fades fast. Sunday the 16th has some 3ft swell but the winds turn choppy. The rest of the forecast drops back into weak, poor-condition surf.
So bottom line: if you’re looking for the moment, it’s Saturday morning, 15th August at Quijote Inn Peak. Glassy, long-period SW swell, and real potential. Everything else is a gamble at best.
Catch you out there,
Rusty
