Pointe des Chateaux Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, grab your board. It’s Rusty here, and I’ve got the lowdown on Pointe des Chateaux. To be honest, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim, so let’s just get into it.

The long story short? There’s absolutely nothing worth paddling out for in the next 16 days. The swell shows up, but the wind is just gonna ruin every single one of those waves for us. It’s a straight-up bummer.

Thursday, August 6th, kicks things off with a tiny 2ft NE swell, but it’s being battered by a 15 mph ESE cross-shore wind. The water’s a warm 84°, which is about normal for this time of year, but it’s choppy and messy. That whole weekend, the 7th and 8th, sees the swell bump up slightly to 4-5ft, but the easterly wind keeps howling at 15 mph, making it cross-on and just poor. The energy is weak to moderate (140-209), so there’s just nothing to get excited about.

The start of the next week, August 10th and 11th, the wind drops a touch to 12 mph, but it's still cross or cross-on, and the swell stays in that messy 3ft to 4ft range with a short 6-second period. (120-164) on the energy. It’s all just junky closeouts and chop. We need a break, but it’s not coming.

Around Wednesday, August 12th, we see a bit more size – 5ft to 6ft – but the period is still short. The energy starts to climb (178-282), but with that onshore/cross-shore wind, it's still not going to be rideable. It feels like the ocean is just taunting us.

By August 13th, the swell really starts to push. We’re talking 7ft on Thursday, and the energy jumps into strong territory (519-588), but that wind is now up to 19 mph and lumpy. This is when it gets properly frustrating. Then, Friday, August 14th, the swell gets to 8ft with the energy skyrocketing (1061). But again, it’s accompanied by a 22 mph cross-onshore wind. That’s just a washing machine out there. This size at 8ft is expert-only at the best of times, but with this wind, it’s not even that – it’s just a chaotic mess.

The next couple of days, the 15th and 16th, stay big – 7ft to 8ft – but the wind remains howling from the east at 19-22 mph. The energy stays strong (635-806), but the quality is zero. To be honest, with these conditions, this setup looks like it’d be more fun for kite surfing than paddle surfing. At least they can use the wind.

The swell starts to back down a little as we head into the week of August 17th, but the story stays the same. On Monday the 17th, we’ve still got 6ft to 6ft, a 19 mph cross-shore wind, and a risk of thunderstorms in the morning. The energy remains strong (448-502), but it’s still all chop and bump.

From the 18th through the 21st, we see 5ft to 5ft of swell. The wind drops back to 12-15 mph, but it's still cross or cross-on, so the surf is still just poor. The energy settles into that moderate to strong range (265-340), but it doesn't help. The period stays short around 7-8 seconds, so there's no power behind it. It looks like the conditions just stay mediocre for the rest of the window.

So there you have it. A whole lot of nothing for the next two weeks. The swell will be there, but the wind will kill it every time. If you’ve got your heart set on it, maybe just go for a swim. Otherwise, I’d be checking back in a few days to see if the models change. The surf will come back, it always does, but this looks like a write-off.
