Pernambuco Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.

First up, we've got a bit of a slow start. The forecast period kicks off with some weak, choppy leftovers on Friday, but honestly, you're better off waiting. The real story starts to build on Saturday, August 8th.

Saturday morning is where it’s at. We’re looking at clean, glassy conditions at Pernambuco with a small but clean 3 ft swell rolling in from the south. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing crazy there. The combined energy is moderate at 218, so it’s not a powerhouse, but it'll be fun on the right board. The wind is glass, which is a major plus. The swell direction is from the S, and the optimum is from the SE, so it’s a bit off-angle but still workable. The crowd factor is marked as "often," so expect a few locals out, but it’ll be worth it for the clean conditions.

The energy really kicks up on Saturday afternoon, with a 5 ft SSE swell and a very long period of 16 seconds, pushing the combined energy to a strong 1162. This is a proper groundswell, but the wind is onshore, which will mess up the surface. Plus, at 5 ft, it’s getting a bit too big for beginners, and the long period might make it close out at a beach break like this. I’d say the morning is your best bet.

The week ahead is a bit of a mixed bag. Sunday August 9th has some shoulder-high waves around 3 ft to 4 ft, but the wind is cross-off in the morning, which keeps it clean. The combined energy is moderate at 386. It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about. Monday and Tuesday look pretty poor with onshore winds and rain, so I’d probably give those a miss.

Things start to look up again on Thursday, August 13th. We’ve got a clean, cross-off wind and a solid 3 ft SSE swell, with a combined energy of 590. This is a very good looking afternoon session, with clean conditions and a good wave shape. The swell direction is SSE, which is a nice match for the optimum SE direction. The period is 12 seconds, so it’s got some decent punch.

There’s a bit of a lull then through the weekend and into the start of the next week, with some onshore winds and rain. But hold on… Monday, August 17th, is a real standout. The morning is glassy, dead calm, with a 5 ft swell from the east. The combined energy is moderate at 419. This is a proper size, but at 5 ft, it’s pushing into the "experts only" territory if you’re not comfortable. The period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s windswell, but the glassy conditions will make it much better than the numbers suggest. This is the best on offer in the whole window.

After that, the surf drops right back down. The second week is mostly small, onshore, and weak. The best of the rest is probably Friday, August 21st, with a glassy morning, but the swell is tiny at 2 ft. It’s clean, but you’ll be on a longboard.

There’s a gap of a few days with no real recommendations after the 21st, but the forecast for the 22nd shows a small, glassy morning again. It’s not a big finish, but it’s clean.

So, to sum it up: Saturday morning, August 8th, for the clean, fun waves, and Monday morning, August 17th, for the biggest, cleanest swell of the period. Those are your two standouts.
