The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Non Nuoc.
To be honest, the next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag. We’re seeing a lot of small, weak swell and very ordinary conditions for a good stretch. The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Wednesday, August 26th, with a moderate energy pulse (325) that finally gets things moving, but it’s not until we get into the first week of September that the real standout potential shows itself.
The big highlight, the one you want to circle on the calendar, is Saturday, September 5th. We’ve got a solid groundswell from the ENE with a long period of 18 seconds, and the combined energy is a strong 539. The morning is looking clean with a gentle offshore breeze from the WSW, which is ideal for Non Nuoc’s sandbar setup. Expect waves around 2ft, but with that long period, the sets will have real punch and shape. The wind is going glassy by the afternoon, making it a full day of clean, fun surf. It’s a sandbar, so it can be a bit fickle, but when it lines up with this kind of ENE swell and offshore wind, it’s the best of the run.
The build-up to that day is worth noting too. Thursday, September 4th, sees a moderate energy pulse (279) of NNW windswell, but it’s a bit blown out with strong cross-offshore winds. Friday, the 5th, is the real gem. After that, Sunday, September 6th, won’t be bad – early glassy conditions with a 2ft NE swell, but the period drops to 10 seconds and the energy (167) is less, so it won’t have the same grunt.
Water temperature right now is 86°, which is about 1° warmer than normal for this time of year – just a touch above average, so nothing wild.
The long and short of it: don’t paddle out for the first week unless you’re desperate for a float. The wait for something decent is worth it. The 5th of September is the call.
Rusty.
