The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Non Nuoc.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next week or so is pretty flat. We’re looking at a real slow start through the first week, with nothing surfable until the end of August. The water temperature is sitting at a warm 86°F, which is about average for this time of year, so at least the paddle won't be a shock.
From the 18th through the 25th, it’s a real desert. Tiny 0.3ft to 1ft waves with weak energy, mostly in the single digits. The combined energy is barely a whisper (6 to 20). Not worth wetting a board.
We finally get a pulse of life starting on the morning of the 26th. A 0.7ft swell from the ENE with a very long period of 19 seconds starts to show up, but energy is still low (40). It’s not until the 27th that things start to look interesting. Thursday the 27th afternoon we get a pulse of 2ft ENE swell with a 16-second period and the energy jumping to 255 (moderate). The wind is a gentle offshore from the SW, which will keep it clean. This is the first time the wave comment says "expect good surf conditions."
The standout window is Friday the 28th. The morning shows 3ft from the ENE with a 16-second period and strong energy at 404. The wind is a gentle cross-offshore from the SSW, but the real magic is the afternoon. That afternoon, the wind drops to glassy, absolutely dead calm, from the NNW. The swell holds at 3ft with 401 energy. That’s the best call of the whole outlook – clean, glassy, head-high waves. It won’t be a monster, but for this stretch, it’s the pick.
Saturday the 29th morning is also a beauty with glassy conditions from the WNW, 3ft swell and 15-second period, but the energy drops a little to 245. The afternoon gets ruined by a cross-onshore wind, so make the most of the morning.
From Sunday the 30th onward, the energy fades. The combined energy drops from 188 down to 99 by the 1st of September. The swell direction stays mostly ENE, but the winds start turning onshore or cross-onshore, making things choppy. The 2nd of September afternoon sees a bit of glass again, but the swell is back to 2ft, so it’s pretty ordinary.
Overall, the best bet is Friday the 28th afternoon at Non Nuoc. Glassy, 3ft ENE groundswell, and enough energy to get a few fun ones. That’s your window.
