Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ over at Non Nuoc.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet run ahead. The first week and a bit is flat as a pancake – tiny dribbles, no power, and the wind’s not doing us any favours. From now right through to the morning of July 10th, you’re lookin’ at nothing worth paddling out for. Just ankle-snappers and bumpy conditions. You’ll be fightin’ a 12 mph SW breeze most days, which is cross-off or offshore but the swell just isn’t there.
Then comes a flicker of hope. Friday the 10th of July, the morning shows a little ENE groundswell creepin’ in at 1 ft with an 18-second period and light offshore wind from the west at 6 mph. The combined energy is weak though, only 142 (moderate wave energy), but it’s clean. By the afternoon, that swell bumps to 2 ft, period hits 20 seconds – that’s proper long-period groundswell – and energy jumps to 243. But the wind turns cross-on from the east, so it’s a bit lumpy. Still, it’s the first real pulse we’ve seen.
Now, the standout. Saturday the 11th of July is your best bet in this whole 16-day window. Morning session sees 3 ft of ENE groundswell with an 18-second period, and a solid 16 mph offshore from the WSW. Combined energy hits 635 (strong). That’s proper grunt for a beach-and-sandbar setup. Then the afternoon gets even better: 4 ft, 17-second period, energy at 834 (strong), and the wind swings light cross-off from the SSW at just 3 mph. That’s about as clean as you’ll get here. Water temp is 86°, which is 1° above normal – nothin’ crazy, just a touch warmer than average. Non Nuoc is exposed to the swell, but the optimum direction is NE, and we’re gettin’ ENE, so it’s a solid angle. Keep in mind, with that long period, a sandbar can sometimes straighten out, but with the offshore wind holdin’ it up, there’ll be some fun lines. Crowds can show up here sometimes, but with the build-up of flat days, it might be worth the gamble.
After Saturday, it drops off again. Sunday the 12th has a little 2 ft ENE swell left over with a 14-second period, clean offshore wind, but energy drops to 197 (moderate). By afternoon it’s fading fast. Then from Monday the 13th all the way through the end of the period on July 19th, it’s back to tiny, weak surf – most days under 1 ft, periods under 8 seconds, and a mix of onshores or variable wind. Nothing to write home about.
So, bottom line: if you’ve got your eye on Non Nuoc, pencil in Saturday the 11th of July. That’s your one true standout. The rest is mostly a waiting game. Forecasts can change though, so don’t write the whole window off just yet.
Stay wet,
Rusty
