The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here. Let me break down what’s cookin’ at Non Nuoc for the next couple of weeks. Fair warning: it’s pretty tame.
First few days are a bust. Wednesday and Thursday have barely a ripple. Thursday the 20th sees a tiny pulse – 4ft swell from the NW but with a short 6-second period and weak energy (138). The wind is offshore though, so it’ll be clean, just real small and weak.
Then we hit a long, slow grind. From Friday the 21st through Wednesday the 27th, it’s mostly knee-high junk with poor conditions. Lots of “poor surf conditions” in there, with just a couple of “surfable but very ordinary” moments. You’re gonna be sitting on the beach a lot.
Things finally perk up a bit on Thursday morning the 27th. We get a 1ft swell from the ENE with a 17-second period – that’s a long-period groundswell. Energy climbs to moderate (133) and the wind is light offshore, so it’s clean. That builds into Friday the 28th. The afternoon is your best bet: 2ft from the ENE, a 15-second period, and the combined energy hits 227 – that’s moderate and labeled as “good surf conditions” with a 2 out of 10. The wind is light and offshore. That Friday afternoon session is the only real standout. It’ll be small but clean, and with that long period, it might offer some nice little peelers at the sandbar.
After that, it fades again. Saturday the 29th drops back to 2ft and the wind goes onshore in the afternoon, killing it. The rest of the run into September is all tiny, weak, and either glassy with no swell or choppy.
So, your one and only highlight is Friday afternoon, August 28th at Non Nuoc. It’s a sandbar, exposed to the NE, and the optimum swell direction is NE – perfect match. The swell is small at 2ft, friendly for everyone, and those light offshore winds will keep the surface clean. Crowds are only “sometimes” a problem, so you might see a few other surfers out, but it won't be a circus. If you got a longboard or a fish, that’s your window.
Honestly, with so many flat days and only one small window, this is a good week to do something else. But forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it.
Catch ya later.
Rusty.
