The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what Non Nuoc is showing us.
Honestly, mate, the next 16 days are pretty quiet for the most part. There’s a tiny window that lights up, but you’ll need to be patient. The water’s at 86°, which is about 1° warmer than normal for this time of year – so just a little on the warm side, nothing crazy.
The first stretch, from Friday the 21st through Tuesday the 25th, is flat and weak. Swell heights are between 1ft and 2ft, with short periods of 6 to 8 seconds. The combined energy is tiny – numbers like 30, 16, 27 – just not enough push. Winds are often offshore, so it’s clean, but the swell is too small to bother. Even Sunday the 23rd afternoon goes glassy with a 2ft NNW swell, but it’s still poor.
Then on Wednesday the 26th, we get a proper pulse. An ENE groundswell rolls in with a very long 19-second period and heights around 2ft to 3ft. The combined energy jumps to 304 and 374 – that’s moderate, and for a sandbar, those long intervals will line up nicely. Winds are offshore and light, keeping it smooth. This is the standout session. Thursday the 27th still has some decent ENE swell at 2ft to 2ft with 14 to 15-second periods and clean breezes, though energy drops a bit (144 to 208).
After that, from Friday the 28th right through to Saturday the 5th of September, it’s back to small, weak surf – heights between 0.3ft and 3ft, with periods all over the shop. The combined energy is mostly in the low hundreds or below, and winds often cross or onshore, so the quality’s poor. There are a few glassy mornings on the 29th and 4th and 5th of September, but the swell is just not there. On the 3rd of September, there’s 3ft of swell with 151 to 229 energy, but with cross-onshore wind it’s choppy – better for a kite than a surfboard.
So the one to circle is Wednesday the 26th, and maybe grab Thursday the 27th too. That long-period ENE groundswell with clean winds is as good as it gets. Non Nuoc is a fairly consistent sandbar, and crowds can show up sometimes, but on those days it’ll be worth it.
Rusty.
