The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the charts for our local stretch.
To be honest, looking at the next week, it's a bit of a slow grind. The water temp is sitting right around 86°, which is pretty much bang on the usual for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real glimpse of something worthwhile doesn't show up until Wednesday, the 26th of August. We'll see a morning push of chest-high swell from the ENE, around 2 ft, with a long period of 19 seconds. That's proper groundswell energy, and the moderate offshore wind from the WSW will keep it clean. The combined energy will be moderate, sitting at 218. It's small, but the quality will be there for a mellow session.
Thursday the 27th looks similar, with a clean 3 ft swell from the ENE in the morning. The wind will be light offshore from the west, keeping it lined up. The energy will be moderate again (260). It's nothing huge, but it'll be fun.
Then we hit a real dry spell. From Friday the 28th of August all the way through to Tuesday the 1st of September, it's a wasteland. The swell drops away completely, and the conditions are just poor. A lot of tiny, weak waves and questionable wind. You might as well leave the board in the car.
The real standout, the one you've been waiting for, arrives on Thursday, the 3rd of September. The morning will see a solid 5 ft swell from the ENE, with a long period of 11 seconds. The wind will be a clean cross-offshore from the WNW, creating some really nice, workable waves. The energy is strong (676). This is the best quality of the whole run.
But the absolute peak is Friday, the 4th of September. The morning session is where it's at. We're looking at a solid 6 ft of ENE swell, with an even longer period of 13 seconds. The energy is seriously pumping (1201). The wind will be a clean cross-offshore again. This is proper, sizeable groundswell. It's going to be a bit much for the beginners, but for the experienced crew, this is the one to circle. The standout session of the entire 16-day outlook.
The conditions will stay good into Saturday the 5th of September, with a 5 ft swell and glassy conditions in the morning. Perfect for a dawn patrol, but the energy will be a touch lower at 888.
After that, it fades back into the small stuff.
So, in short: the first week is a tease. The second week, especially Thursday the 3rd and Friday the 4th of September, is where the real action is. Go get it.
