The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Non Nuoc. Water temps are running about average for this time of year, so nothing to shock you there.
Truth is, mate, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and grim for Non Nuoc. There’s a long stretch of nothing worthwhile from now right through until the end of August. We’re talking tiny, weak waves with hardly any energy—combined energy readings mostly under 30 (22-28 weak energy), and swell heights barely scraping 2ft. The wind is offshore most mornings, which is the only positive, but with waves that small, it’s just not surfable. You’d be wasting your time.
Then, around the 26th of August, we start to see a glimmer with a longer-period ENE swell coming in at 18 seconds and the energy picking up to 192 (moderate). But the swell height is still only 2ft, and by the afternoon the wind swings onshore, ruining it. The following days stay similar: small, ordinary waves with moderate energy, but nothing to get excited about.
The one standout in this whole 16-day window is the afternoon of Sunday, the 30th of August. The swell jumps to 6ft from the NE with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy rockets up to 601 (strong). The wind is light and cross-off, keeping it clean. That’s your best bet—a solid, punchy wave for the more experienced crew. It’s not a long-period groundswell, so it’ll be a bit more manageable and won’t just close out. Keep in mind, though, that this is a long-range call, so it’s promising but not locked in. It’s a sandbar break, so it can be a bit fickle, and crowds are sometimes an issue here, so get in early.
The days after that trail off again into tiny surf. So, for Non Nuoc, it’s a long wait for that one Sunday afternoon window. If you’re desperate, you could paddle out on the 26th or 27th for some knee-high fun, but the real action is the 30th.
Rusty.
