The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty, and I'm looking at the surf here at Non Nuoc. It's a sandbar break that's exposed and fairly consistent, but the 16-day outlook is a bit of a tough one to write. The water is sitting at about 86°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Honestly, for the first week, from Friday the 21st of August right through to Tuesday the 25th of August, it's a real struggle. The swell is tiny, barely a ripple, with heights hanging around 0.7ft to 2ft and weak energy. The winds are offshore a lot of the time, which is clean, but there's just no power in the water. Conditions are poor, so you're better off keeping the board in the car.
Then things start to change mid-week. On Wednesday the 26th of August, we finally see some life. The swell picks up to 2ft-3ft from the ENE, with a period of 18 seconds – that's a proper long-period groundswell. The combined energy is moderate, and with a moderate to gentle offshore wind, the surf is clean and starting to show some shape. This is the best window of the forecast. Thursday the 27th holds similar conditions in the morning, with 2ft from the ENE at 15 seconds, but it drops off a bit by the afternoon.
After that, from the 28th of August onwards, it's back to the doldrums. The swell fades to nearly nothing, the winds become messy and cross-onshore, and the energy is weak. It's a long stretch of poor surf all the way through to the end of the forecast on Saturday the 5th of September. The standout is definitely Wednesday the 26th of August. The morning and afternoon both offer clean, offshore conditions with that long-period ENE groundswell pushing 3ft. It's not big, but it's the only real surfable wave in the whole run. For a beginner-friendly sandbar, it's a solid window to get out there.
Rusty.
