Alright mates, Rusty here. Let's talk about Non Nuoc for the next couple weeks. I'll be honest, it's a tale of two parts. Water temp's about 86°, nothing unusual for the season.
First up, we've got a long dry spell. From Friday July 3rd straight through to Wednesday July 9th, there's just nothing worth paddling for. Tiny, weak, and messy – the combined energy numbers are all under 100 (between 5 and 146). Forget it.
Late Thursday the 9th, we get a glimpse of hope. The wind goes light and cross-offshore, and a tiny, very long-period groundswell (20 seconds) from the ENE shows up with energy of 93. It's only about 1ft, but that long period could make for some slow, glassy rides if you're on a log.
Friday the 10th is more of the same – tiny 1ft waves but the afternoon turns glassy and the energy is up at 143.
Then comes the day. Saturday July 11th. Saturday morning, the swell is a clean 3ft from the ENE with a 21-second period. Offshore wind from the WSW at 12 mph, and the energy is a solid 817. Conditions look very good. Then Saturday afternoon, it gets even better. The swell bumps to 4ft, still from the ENE, period a still-very-long 18 seconds, offshore wind holds, and the energy rockets to 1110. That's strong energy and excellent conditions, but only for experienced surfers. This is without a doubt the best surf on offer in this whole outlook. Non Nuoc is a sandbar, and while very long-period groundswell can make beach breaks a bit straight, the clean offshore wind will make it a session to remember. Expect it to get crowded sometimes.
Sunday the 12th is a let-down. The morning drops to 3ft with a 14-second period and offshore wind, but the energy is down to 266 and it's only marginal. Then from Monday the 13th, we're back into the deep freeze. Tiny waves for the rest of the second week, nothing exciting.
Bottom line: save your energy for Saturday the 11th, especially the afternoon. That's the standout. The rest is pretty quiet.
Rusty.
