The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Non Nuoc.
To be straight with you, the next ten days or so are looking pretty flat. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak waves that won’t get the heart pumping. The combined swell energy is dragging along in the single digits (6 to 31), and the swell heights are barely a ripple. The wind is offshore for a lot of it, but with waves this small, it’s just a pretty face on a flat ocean. The water temp is sitting at 87°, which is about normal for this time of year.
Things start to get a little interesting on the 28th of August. That Friday morning, the swell picks up to 2 ft from the ENE, with a period of 14 seconds, and the combined energy climbs to 129. It’s still ordinary, but it’s a start. The wind is offshore from the WSW at 12 mph, so it’ll be clean. The afternoon gets glassy, with 2 ft from the ENE and energy at 183. The waves are still small, but it’s the first real sign of life.
The best window in this whole 16-day outlook is the 30th of August to the 31st of August. On Sunday the 30th, the afternoon glass-off with 3 ft of ENE swell at 15 seconds and energy hitting 288 is the standout. That’s a good sign. Then Monday the 31st is the pick of the lot. The morning has 3 ft from the ENE, 15-second period, and energy at 348. The wind is light offshore from the W at 6 mph. The afternoon is even better: dead calm, glassy conditions, and the same 3 ft swell. This is when you want to be in the water at Non Nuoc. The long period from the ENE will line up nicely with the sandbar setup here, and the crowd situation is ‘sometimes’, so you might not have to fight for every wave.
After that, it drops off again quickly. The 1st of September has some energy (228) but the swell is already dropping, and by the 2nd it’s back to nothing.
Honestly, for the first week and a half, don’t bother. But if you can wait, the 30th and 31st of August are your days. The Monday afternoon (31st) with zero wind and 3 ft of clean, glassy groundswell is the true standout. It’s a dreamy window for a sandbar wave.
Rusty.
