The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the menu for the Non Nuoc sandbar over the next couple of weeks. Straight up, I gotta be honest – this is one of those outlooks where you might want to keep the board in the car and just enjoy a cold one on the beach. The 16-day window from now (July 18) through to August 2 is pretty much a flat spell. There's a big gap with no surf worth paddling for. The first couple of days? Tiny, weak waves – we're talking 0.7 ft to 1 ft at best, with periods around 5–6 seconds. That's just wind slop. The water temp is sitting at 86°F (about normal for this time of year) so at least you won't freeze.
The wind is a mixed bag. On the mornings of the 19th, 20th, and 21st we get a light offshore from the WSW – that would clean things up if there was any swell to clean. But there isn't. The combined energy is barely a whisper, single-digit values (6–13). It's just not happening.
Around July 23 and 24 we get a couple of glassy moments, but again the swell is 0.7 ft–1.0 ft with a period of 4–10 seconds. Nothing to get excited about. The energy ticks up a bit on July 30 morning, hitting 84 – still weak, and the wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions". The swell is 1 ft at 14 seconds from the ENE, with glassy conditions. That's about the best of the whole run, but "best" is relative. It's tiny, inconsistent, and the break is a sandbar, so that long period (14s) will likely make it fat and closey. For a beginner-friendly spot like this, it's probably too small to even stand up on.
The rest of the period? More of the same – cross-onshore winds, tiny swell, poor surf. July 31 morning is similar with glassy conditions and 1 ft ENE swell at 13 seconds, but again, ordinary. The crowds are "sometimes" here, but honestly, with no waves there won't be any crowds.
So, bottom line: there are no good surf options in this 16-day window. Non Nuoc is fairly consistent usually, but this run is a dud. Forecasts can change, but right now the only thing worth watching is that glassy morning on July 30 – maybe a longboard cruise if you're desperate. Otherwise, it's a wait-and-see. Keep an eye on the charts, but don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
