The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for your local stretch.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window is a tough one for Nam O Point. We’re looking at a long, quiet stretch. The first real chance to even think about paddling out doesn’t come until the very end of the month, and even then, it’s not gonna be anything to write home about. From now until the end of July, the swell is tiny, mostly around 0.7 ft to 1 ft, with a short, weak period of 5 seconds. The combined wave energy is low, barely hitting double digits. It’s honestly just a lot of flat, poor conditions with onshore or cross-onshore breezes, which is a bummer.
The water temp is sitting at 87 °F, which is a touch above the norm for this time of year, but nothing drastic.
Now, let’s talk about the one little glimmer on the horizon. Things start to get interesting around Thursday, July 30th. The swell picks up a bit, reaching 1.0 ft to 1 ft, and the period finally stretches out. We see a groundswell building from the ENE with a 13-second period, and the combined energy hits 63 (moderate). That’s a proper sign of life. The real standout looks like Saturday morning, August 1st. The swell is 1 ft from the ENE with a 12-second period, and the combined energy is 68 (moderate). But what’s got me a little excited is the wind – a light WNW breeze, making for clean, cross-off conditions. That’s the best we’ve seen all forecast. The waves will be surfable but very ordinary, so don’t expect a world-class session. The ENE direction is a bit off the optimum for this spot, which prefers a NE swell, and that 12-second period might make things a bit walled-up at this beach/jetty setup. Still, it’s the best on offer.
The other point to mention is the morning of July 31st. A 1 ft ENE swell with an 11-second period, and clean offshore wind from the WSW. Combined energy is 49. It’s a decent option, but the Saturday morning is the pick. For the rest of the run, we’re looking at tiny, weak swells with poor winds. Don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
