Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, it’s Rusty here, and let me tell you how it’s looking for Nam O Point. The next couple of weeks are a real mixed bag, but there’s one window that stands out from the rest.
Right now, the start of the period is flat and frustrating. We’ve got a run of tiny, weak swell from the ESE for the first few days, with heights barely reaching 1 foot and periods under 8 seconds. You’d be fighting for a dribble, not a wave. Winds are variable, but the swell just isn’t there to make anything of it. That carries us all the way through to Wednesday the 10th, with hardly anything worth paddling out for. So yeah, a big gap with no real surf recommendations.
It’s not until the morning of Friday the 11th of July that we finally see a pulse of energy. It’s still small – around 2 feet – but the swell direction swings around to the ENE and the period jumps up to 17 seconds. That’s proper groundswell, and with a consistent WSW offshore wind, it’s going to be clean and lined up. The combined energy hits 419 (moderate), and by the afternoon, it’s up to 3 feet with a 513 energy reading (strong). Expect very good conditions with that moderate offshore breeze. The bigger period means longer gaps between sets, but the shape should be excellent on this exposed, NE-optimum setup. Come Sunday the 13th, the swell is dropping fast, down to 2 feet and 14 seconds, so that Saturday afternoon is the standout session. A few crowds are possible at this consistent beginner-friendly spot, but with conditions that good, it’s worth it. Water temp is 86°F, which is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
After that, it’s pretty grim again. From Monday the 14th right through to the end of the forecast on the 21st, we’re back to tiny, weak waves – mostly under 2 feet – with short periods and poor conditions. Winds stay light and often offshore or glassy, but there’s just no swell to work with. A few days show clean conditions, but you’re looking at nothing more than knee-high slop. Not worth getting the board wet for unless you just need to sit on a lake.
So, the only real call here is to pencil in that Saturday afternoon, July 11th. It’s the clear winner: best size, best period, best winds, and the most energy we see in the whole two weeks.
Stay patient, watch the charts, and if that swell holds, you know where to be.
Rusty.
