Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim on the surf front for Mentor. We've got a long stretch of flatness ahead, so don't be fooled by any morning glass. Right now, there's simply no swell on the table and it's looking like a barren run for a while.
The water is sitting at 76°, which is a touch warmer than we’d typically expect for this time of year, so that’s something at least.
Looking at the forecast, the first few days are dead flat with a bit of breeze. There's a chance of a clean-up at times, but with zero swell, it’s just a lake out there. This quiet spell is going to stretch out for the better part of a week or more. We're looking at a long gap with no surfable waves at all. The model runs show nothing but poor surf conditions day after day through the middle of the month.
Things might perk up a touch around the 18th and 19th with some cleaner cross-off winds, but there’s still no swell to push through. It's like having a great offshore wind but no ocean to blow on. The long-range stuff is just too far out and uncertain to get excited about. For now, keep the board in the car and the wax in the bag. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle, if you're into that.
