The Lowdown
Alright, crew, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with each other: the next couple of weeks are going to test our patience. The surf for our area is looking mostly poor, with a long stretch of small, weak waves and funky winds that’s gonna keep us on the beach.
We’re looking at a real dry spell for the first week. From now through about the 27th, it’s mostly small and weak, with energy readings in the double digits. There’s a potentially surfable wave on the morning of the 26th, but it’s pretty ordinary. Honestly, it’s a lot of flatness and blown-out conditions.
As we roll into the last few days of August and the start of September, the swell energy builds, but the wind messes things up. The 28th afternoon brings in some solid size, hitting 8ft, but it’s accompanied by strong onshore winds, making it a complete mess. Not a goer.
Okay, so here’s the deal. The one real standout, the one to circle on the calendar, is Thursday, the 3rd of September. This is more than a week and a half away, so keep that in mind, but the models are showing a proper groundswell. Swell heights are around 7ft to 7ft, with strong energy readings of 651 on Thursday morning, climbing to 724 by the afternoon.
The morning of the 3rd is not perfect, still a bit of side wind, but the afternoon... it goes dead calm. Glassy, smooth, perfect. The swell is from the WSW with a period of 9 seconds, which is ideal for our setup. Les Conches (France) is going to be the spot. That size, over 6ft, is strictly for the experienced crew. It’s a powerful wave that commands respect. But for those who are up for it, this is the session of the outlook. Since it's so far out, treat it as exciting but not a guarantee.
After that, the swell backs off again for the following weekend, leaving us with smaller waves and more of that onshore wind. So, be patient, keep an eye on that Thursday forecast, and be ready to pounce.
Rusty.
