La Paz Surf Forecast and Surf Report

At first glance, it’s a slow start. The initial days are quiet, but don’t let that fool you. The pattern is building into something special, especially for the patient surfer. The first real window opens up on the morning of Saturday the 19th of July.

Saturday morning, July 19th is a sneaky little gem at La Paz. We’re looking at a small but clean 2ft swell from the SSW, with a very long period of 19 seconds. The wind is glassy and offshore from the NNE. The water temp is a warm 86°, which is notably above average for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (451). It’s tiny, but the conditions are perfect for a log or a longboard. Don’t expect much power, but the glassy surface will make it look like a lake.

Monday morning, July 21st brings more of the same: 3ft from the SW with a 15-second period, and the wind is glassy calm. The combined energy is moderate (457). It’s still on the small side, but clean.

Now, things start to heat up. Friday morning, July 24th is a standout. The swell is 3ft from the SSW, but the period jumps to a massive 24 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy. The wind is glassy from the SSW. The combined energy jumps to strong (933). This is a beautiful, long-period swell that will wrap into the reef and point setup beautifully. It’s a classic La Paz morning.

The real firecracker is Saturday morning, July 25th. The swell is 3ft from the SSW, still with a very long 21-second period. But the wind is glassy and offshore from the north. The combined energy is very strong (1262). This is the best on offer early on – clean, lined-up waves for experienced surfers.

Sunday, July 26th is a full day of action. The morning is 4ft from the SSW, glassy calm, with very strong energy (1102). The afternoon is 4ft from the SSW, also glassy, with energy at 1119. This is excellent.

Monday morning, July 27th pushes up to 5ft from the SSW, glassy, with very strong energy (1557). This is getting into the zone where it’s more for experienced surfers, but the quality is undeniable.

The ultimate standout of the entire outlook is Tuesday morning, July 28th. The swell hits 6ft from the SSW – that’s proper size, only for experts. The wind is glassy from the NW, and the combined energy is through the roof at 1915. This is a big, powerful, clean swell. The reef and point setup at La Paz will handle this beautifully. The period is 17 seconds, so expect long, grinding lines and big gaps between sets. This is a serious session.

Wednesday morning, July 29th holds at 5ft from the SSW, glassy, with very strong energy (1327). Still excellent for the experienced.

The energy slowly winds down from there, with Thursday morning, July 30th offering 5ft (898 energy) and glassy conditions, and Friday morning, July 31st offering 4ft (528 energy) with a light cross-offshore breeze. The last weekend, August 1st and 2nd, sees the swell drop back to small, clean, but minor waves.

Overall, this is a fantastic run of surf for La Paz. The first week builds from tiny glassy conditions to a powerful, expert-level swell by the 28th. The crowds are listed as "sometimes" at this spot, so expect some company on the best days, but the quality will be worth it.
