The first real window of surf is Wednesday the 5th, but it’s pretty weak. We’re looking at a small 3ft of east-northeast swell with a short, 7-second period. The energy is weak, only registering 64. It’s going to be a bit of a mess with that cross-shore wind. Nothing to get out of bed for, to be honest.

That trend of poor surf continues for days. The swell does pick up a bit, but the wind stays mostly cross-shore, keeping things lumpy. The energy gets more moderate, but the quality is just poor. We’re looking at a stretch of days here with no real recommendations. It’s just constant, low-quality surf.

As we get into the second week, things start to get a little more interesting. On the 14th, the swell is starting to push up, hitting 5ft, and the energy is getting into that moderate range, around 265. Still, the wind is a problem, so it’s not clean. The 15th and 16th see the swell really build, with the 16th seeing 6ft to 6ft and strong wave energy, pushing into the 400s and 500s. The period is still on the shorter side, around 8 seconds, so it’s not groundswell, but there’s some push there. Saturday the 15th morning looks like the biggest, with 7ft surf, but that cross-shore wind is still going to mess it up.

Then, on Monday the 17th, the swell is still solid, around 6ft, with a slightly longer 9-second period. Still, the winds are just too cross-shore to make it clean.

The only real glimmer of hope comes on Tuesday the 18th. The morning shows a cross-offshore wind, and the surf is still a solid 5ft. For the first time in the whole run, the conditions are described as clean. The energy is still moderate, at 319, and it’s from the east. It’s a small window, but that’s the standout. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best we’re going to get in this stretch.

So, to sum it up: there’s a long, poor stretch until the middle of next week. The swell builds, but the wind is the enemy. The one to look for is Tuesday morning the 18th at La Boca. It’s not a classic, but it’s the only time the wind is right. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. Keep your expectations low for the rest of it.
