Table - best surf conditions forecast for Halawa over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this stretch of forecast is a tough one. We're looking at a real dry spell for any quality surf at Halawa. The whole sixteen-day window is plagued with messy, onshore wind, and nothing’s lining up for a decent session.
Let’s run through it. Starting this Friday the 10th, it’s all cross-shore wind junk with ENE winds kicking up a lumpy chop. We see some moderate swell energy (356), but it's poor quality – short period, bumpy, and just ugly. That theme holds right through the weekend and into next week. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see the swell size bump up to 7 ft to 8 ft, and the combined energy climbs into the moderate to strong range (433 to 648), but those winds are just tearing it apart. The break is exposed, but with that cross-shore blow, the shape is gone. With that size and those conditions, this looks more like a kite-surfing setup than anything for a paddle surfer.
We get a bit of a change around Tuesday the 14th afternoon – a pulse of long-period swell (16 seconds, 265 energy) from the west rolls in, but it's tiny at 2 ft. That long-period groundswell would normally be perfect for a reef like Halawa, but there's just not enough height to ride. Wednesday the 15th is similar with a 2 ft west swell and long 15-second period. It’s a tease.
The middle of the second week is flat and weak. From Thursday the 16th through Sunday the 19th, it’s a mix of tiny west-northwest pulses and very low energy (down to 11). Hardly worth a look.
Then we get a bit of a bump on Monday the 20th of July: a 8 ft pulse from the ENE with 7-second period and 489 energy. But again, the wind is cross-shore and onshore, so it’s going to be a crumbly, choppy mess. Not the kind of day you call in sick for. That fades through the rest of that week, with the energy dropping back under 200, and the period staying short (5-7 seconds) – sloppy, weak, and unappealing.
The water temp is sitting right around average for the time of year at 79°, so no drama there, but you won't be warm from paddling because you won't be out long.
Honestly, there's nothing here I can call a standout. Not one session gets a recommendation. The wind is just relentless from the east, and any time the swell shows a little promise, it's paired with a cross-chop. It’s a barren run, but that can happen in this area when the trades lock in. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, leave the board in the car and go do something else.
Rusty.
