Table - best surf conditions forecast for Halawa over the next 16 days.
Right, folks, let's get into it. Rusty here, and I've got to be straight with you – this stretch of forecasts for Halawa (Molokai) is a tough one. We're looking at a solid 16-day window, but for the most part, the surf is going to be a real mess. There are no standout days for a proper paddle session. The wind is a constant problem, and it kills the quality.
The first real surf we see is on the 8th of July, with some waist-to-chest high swell from the ENE, coming in at 7.2ft. But the wind is a nasty cross-shore from the ENE at 22 mph, just churning it up. The combined energy is moderate at 518, but it's all chop. The water temp is a lovely 79.2°, which is about average for this time of year, but you won't be able to enjoy it. That same story – a 6.6ft to 7.5ft ENE swell, cross-shore winds, and poor conditions – holds right through until the 16th of July. The wind is either a fresh or moderate breeze, but it's always cross-shore, creating a lumpy, cross-chop that makes the waves unrideable. The energy varies from 333 to 646, all moderate, but it doesn't matter. It's just messy.
Then, on the 17th of July, the swell from the ENE drops right off. We get a weak, long-period groundswell from the west, 1.6ft at 15 seconds, but the energy is weak (152). The wind is still cross-shore, so it's another poor day.
The 18th of July sees a big spike in the swell – a 9.8ft ENE swell with very strong energy (1460 to 1665). But that's well over 8.2ft, so it's expert territory only, and the cross-shore ENE wind at 22 mph will be howling. It's a no-go for a paddle.
The rest of the run, from the 19th to the 23rd of July, slowly fades. The swell drops from 8.2ft down to 4.3ft, but the wind stays stubbornly cross-shore or cross-onshore. The waves will be choppy and unappealing right through.
To be honest, with this constant cross-shore wind and the beach/reef setup, this whole period looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. There's simply no clean, surfable wave on offer. It's a blank run. Hang tight, folks. Forecasts can change.
