Table - best surf conditions forecast for Halawa over the next 16 days.
Well, to be honest, the whole 16-day window for Halawa is a bit of a bummer right now. There are no standout days, no hidden gems, just a long stretch of poor surf. The tide of swell and wind just isn't lining up for a proper session. The first real chance of anything decent is a full week away, and even that looks messy.
Let's start with the immediate future. From right now through the 11th of July, it’s a write-off. We’ve got east-northeast winds howling at 18 to 22 mph, cross-shore and cross-onshore, just chopping everything up. The swell is coming from the east-northeast, a short-period windswell hanging around 7 ft to 8 ft, with a period of only 7 to 8 seconds. The combined wave energy is moderate, peaking at 701 on Sunday the 12th, but with that wind, it’s just a lumpy, blown-out mess. The water temp is 79°F, which is pretty standard for this time of year.
The middle of the week, the 14th and 15th, the wind eases a tiny bit, but it’s still a fresh breeze out of the east, cross-shore, keeping things lumpy. Swell dips to around 6 ft to 7 ft, still short period. Nothing to get excited about.
Now, something a little different pops up on Thursday the 16th morning. We see a sudden drop in swell height to 2 ft, but the period jumps to a very long 15 seconds, coming from the west. The energy drops to a weak 151. This is a long-period groundswell, which at a reef/river break like Halawa could actually offer some shape if the wind wasn’t still a fresh cross-shore at 22 mph. But with that wind, it’s still poor. Friday the 17th has a similar ghost swell from the west-northwest, but it’s tiny at 1 ft.
Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th are tiny and weak, with combined energy in the 60s and 70s. The wind finally eases to a moderate breeze around the 21st and 22nd, but by then the swell is only 4 ft to 5 ft from the east-northeast, with a short period. It’s a slight improvement, but still just a cross-shore chop.
Honestly, for this whole 16-day run, you’re better off leaving the board at home. The consistent east wind is just ruining every swell that comes through. It’s one of those flat spells that happens here, and it doesn’t look like changing. The only standouts are the long-period pulses on the 16th and 17th, but they are tiny and blown out. Hard pass.
