Table - best surf conditions forecast for Halawa over the next 16 days.
Hey crew, Rusty here. Let's suss out what the next couple of weeks are looking like.
Honestly, it's a rough run for Halawa. This reef/river break is usually pretty consistent and likes exposed swell from the NNW, but we're getting zilch from that direction. Instead, it's a constant feed of short-period, weak energy swell out of the ENE, and it's relentless.
Water temp's at 79°, which is about normal for this time of year, so no shock there.
For the first week and a half, from Tuesday the 7th right through to about Wednesday the 15th, just leave the boards at home. Swell heights are hanging around 7 ft to 7 ft (that's solid, chest to head high), but the energy is all wrong. The combined energy values sit between 384 and 758, so there's moderate-to-strong power in the water, but with a period barely cracking 8 seconds and howling cross-shore winds from the ENE at 20-22 mph, it's all lumpy, choppy, and blown-out. Every single call is "poor surf conditions." That's a solid 9-day stretch of onshore slop.
Mid-month, around the 14th, there's a tiny flicker on Tuesday afternoon where the score just ticks up to a 1/10 for "marginal." The swell drops a touch to 6 ft, the wind eases slightly to 16 mph, and it's just a cross-shore chop. Still not what you'd call surfable, but it's the closest thing to a window we get.
From the 15th through to the 22nd, we're right back into the same grind. Swell stays between 5 ft and 8 ft, period stays short, and the wind just won't let up. The combined energy peaks at 758 on the afternoon of the 18th, showing there's power, but with those short periods and cross-winds, it's going to be a total mess.
I can't find a single standout session in this whole 16-day run. The wind is always cross or cross-on, the swell direction is all wrong for how this spot likes to work, and the period is too short for any real shape. For a spot that's usually consistent, this long stretch of poor conditions is a real bummer. If you're absolutely itching for a paddle, maybe check that Tuesday the 14th afternoon to see if the drop in wind makes it at least lumpy rather than unrideable.
Hang in there, it's gotta turn around sometime.
Rusty.
