Graveyards / Cimetary Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, it’s a slow start. The first few days are a bit of a write-off for any decent waves. We’ve got some swell around, but the wind is blowing cross-off from the east at 19 mph, which is just messing with the surface. The water is sitting at 76°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but with the poor surf conditions, it’s not much comfort. You’re looking at a few days of small, weak stuff, with the combined energy hovering around 200 (moderate), but it’s just not coming together. Things are looking pretty flat until the end of the week.

Now, the first real standout comes on Saturday the 5th of September. Graveyards / Cimetary is a reef break that’s exposed to the SW, and it’s gonna get a nice pulse of SW groundswell. The morning sees a 6 ft swell with a solid 14-second period, pushing the combined energy up to 1220 (strong wave energy). Winds are a gentle cross-off from the ESE at 9 mph, which is going to leave the surface pretty clean. This is one for the experienced surfers, though – it’s a bit meaty for beginners. The water is still that touch warmer than usual, but the crowd could be around; it’s a spot that gets busy sometimes, so keep an eye out.

Sunday the 6th and Monday the 7th still have some size, but the quality drops off a bit. Sunday is a bit bumpy with the wind, and Monday morning actually gets a brief window of offshore wind from the SW, but the swell is a bit too big and the wind shifts onshore in the afternoon. It’s a bit of a gamble.

Then, hold on to your board shorts. Tuesday the 8th of September and Wednesday the 9th are going to be massive. We’re talking 13 ft to 16 ft of SSW swell, with periods of 12 to 17 seconds. The combined energy is through the roof – we’re seeing numbers like 5408 and 14892 (very strong wave energy). This is not for the faint of heart. The wind is cross-off and fresh, so the wave faces will be clean, but the sheer size makes this an expert-only zone. The reef at Graveyards is going to be a serious beast. If you’re not a seasoned charger, stay on the sand.

After that big pulse, the swell drops quickly. Thursday the 10th sees it come down to 8 ft to 10 ft, but the wind is still up around 19 mph, so it’s less appealing. There’s a bit of a lull through the end of that week.

The next promising window shows up on Sunday the 13th of September. Another big SSW groundswell pushes in, with 10 ft waves and a long 18-second period. Combined energy is 6426 (strong). The wind is a moderate cross-off from the east at 12 mph, so it should be reasonably clean. This is another one for the experienced crew, as the size and power are still significant.

Finally, Monday the 14th and Tuesday the 15th offer some solid, more manageable surf. The swell backs off to 8 ft and then 5 ft, with a 15-second period on Monday. The wind is light, especially on Monday morning at 6 mph from the east, which is going to make for some really clean, glassy conditions. The combined energy is still strong (2510 on Monday morning), and the conditions are rated excellent for experienced surfers. This is a great time to get out there for a proper session.

So, to wrap it up: the first few days are flat. The real standouts are the massive, expert-only swell on the 8th and 9th, and then the cleaner, more manageable but still punchy days on the 14th and 15th. Get out there if you’ve got the nerve, or wait for the cleaner windows.
