The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at Graveyards / Cimetary.
Right now, we’ve got a bit of a slow start. The surf is small and the wind is messy, so Saturday and Sunday are looking pretty forgettable, barely worth paddling out for. The water temp is around average for this time of year.
It’s Monday morning that things kick into gear. That’s your first real standout. We’ve got a clean 6-ft SSW swell with a 15-second period, and the wind is cross-off and light. The energy is strong (1658). This is excellent for experienced surfers; it’s not for beginners, but the shape and conditions are dialled in. Crowds are possible here, so keep that in mind.
Tuesday morning stays excellent. Still a clean 7-ft SSW swell, 12-second period, cross-off wind again. Good energy (1127), and it’s consistent for an inconsistent reef. This is your best window early in the week.
Wednesday and Thursday get a bit wind-affected and chop up – the swell is still solid but the moderate cross-winds bring a cross-chop, so quality drops. Not worth rushing out for.
Then Friday the 24th and the weekend of the 25th–26th see a drop in size, but conditions stay clean with cross-off winds and a longer period again. The swell is smaller, around 4–4-ft, so it’s much more manageable. Sunday afternoon has a beautiful 4-ft SW swell at 20 seconds, strong energy (1543), clean glassy texture. That’s your second standout – a real gem for an inconsistent spot.
Now, the second week gets heavy. Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th, we see 10–12-ft SSW swells. That’s expert territory only. The energy is massive (5983–6816), and although the waves are clean, these sizes are too big for this break. It’s more of a spectacle than a sensible session.
Thursday the 30th peaks at a whopping 15-ft S swell (8896), still clean but again, way too big. Only for the very experienced, and even then, it might be pushing it.
Friday the 31st brings some relief – a solid 8-ft SSW swell with true offshore wind, clean and punchy. That’s an excellent window for experienced surfers, and the wind is light, so shape should be nice. Crowds possible.
Into the first days of August, the swell drops back to 5–6-ft, clean but less exciting. The long period is gone, but it’s still rideable.
Overall, your best bets are Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st mornings, and Sunday 26th afternoon. The big stuff from the end of July is impressive but only for pros. For most of us, pick your windows carefully.
Rusty.
