The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at what’s on offer for Manawa. We’ve got a solid 16-day window ahead, but it’s a slow start. The first few days are small and not really worth paddling out for, but hold tight – there’s a good run of cleaner, better surf coming in the second half of the first week and into the second week.
The standout period kicks off on Saturday, August 10th. The morning is still a bit small at 4ft from the SW, but the afternoon sees cleaner conditions with a 3ft SW swell, moderate offshore winds, and the combined energy is getting up there (888). It’s not huge, but it’s clean. The real treat starts on Tuesday, August 11th – we’ve got 5ft of SW groundswell, a period of 15 seconds, and gentle offshore breezes. The energy is solid (795) and the waves will have that long, pushy feel. That’s the best session on offer for the near term.
As we move into the following week, Wednesday, August 12th and Thursday, August 13th keep the good vibes going with 4ft to 4ft SW swell, clean conditions, and very light winds. The water is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year at 77°F, which is a nice bonus.
Now, if you’re an experienced surfer, keep your eyes on Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th. This is where the swell really cranks up. By Saturday morning, we’re looking at 5ft from the SW, and it jumps to 6ft by the afternoon with a combined energy of 2209. That’s strong wave energy. By Sunday, the swell hits 7ft (2590 energy) – that’s getting into expert-only territory. The wind is cross-offshore, so it’s clean, but at that size, Manawa is a serious reef break. It’s not for the faint of heart.
The final days from Monday, August 17th onwards settle back to the 4ft to 5ft range, still clean with fresh offshore winds.
Overall, the best all-round conditions for a surfer who wants quality, clean waves without the monster size hit on Tuesday, August 11th. If you’re an expert and want some power, the Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th window is your ticket, but be aware it’s big and demanding.
Rusty.
