Souillac Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks down at Souillac. This is a reef and point setup, so it handles a good southerly groundswell, and it's pretty consistent.

We're kicking off this Friday the 17th with a bit of a tease. The water's sitting at your average temperature for this time of year, nothing unusual. Early morning, we've got a clean 3 ft wave from the south, with a very long 17-second period pushing in. The combined energy is moderate (761), and with a light cross-offshore breeze, it's looking very surfable. It's a solid start, but the real meat is still a few days out.

Saturday the 18th morning is a real treat – glassy conditions with a 4 ft SSW swell. That's a beautiful thing to see. The period drops to 13 seconds, but the energy is still solid (690). Saturday afternoon gets a bit messy with onshore winds. Sunday morning the 19th is back to glassy, but the swell dips to 3 ft, so it's a smaller, clean day.

Now, listen up. Monday the 20th morning is the standout of the first week. We're looking at 5 ft of clean, glassy SW swell with a 14-second period. The combined energy is strong (1094), and the wind is dead flat. This is prime Souillac. It's a bit punchy, so better suited for the intermediate crew. Tuesday the 21st morning is also excellent, with 6 ft of glassy SSW swell. It's a bit bigger, but still clean.

After Tuesday, the wind picks up. Wednesday the 22nd through Sunday the 27th is a bit of a mixed bag. The swell sticks around, but the wind is cross or cross-on, making it choppy and less appealing. The best of that period is probably Thursday the 23rd morning with a 5 ft S swell, but that 12 mph cross-wind is going to chop it up. The energy is still there (1043), but the quality is missing.

There's a real gap in the quality from the 22nd through the 26th. It's not a total washout, but you'll be working for it.

Now, for the second week... Hold onto your board, because the 27th and 28th look like a proper groundswell event. This is where it gets serious. Monday the 27th morning is pumping with a 8 ft SSW swell riding a massive 21-second period – that's a very long period groundswell. The combined energy is a staggering 7212. It's cross-offshore and clean, but this is expert territory. The point break setup here will handle that long period beautifully, creating some long, powerful lines. Tuesday the 28th is also massive, with 8 ft SW swell and offshore winds in the morning, then going glassy in the afternoon. This is a big, powerful swell; not for the faint of heart.

The energy just keeps climbing, hitting four-digit and five-digit numbers. By the 29th, the swell is 12 ft and predicted to be too big for this break. Wednesday the 30th is the same story – too big and cross-on. The 31st and into August 1st, the wind cranks up to 22 mph, creating ugly, lumpy conditions with massive, raw energy. That's more of a kite-surfing scene than a paddle-surfing one.

So, to wrap it up: the cleanest, most fun waves are Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st of July. If you're an expert looking for a real challenge, the 27th and 28th of July are your window for a serious, powerful, long-period groundswell. Just be aware of the crowds, as it can get busy at a spot like this.
