Table - best surf conditions forecast for Riviere de Galets over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of surf coming up for Riviere de Galets, with the best of it landing on Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th of July. The water’s sitting at a touch warmer than normal for this time of year—77°—so you’ll be leaving the winter wetsuit at home if you had one.
The first real standout kicks off Sunday morning (12 July) . Riviere de Galets is a reef and point setup, and it’s handling a solid 8 ft SW groundswell with a long 15-second period, backed by a combined energy reading of 3305—that’s strong, powerful stuff. Wind is light cross-off from the ENE at 9 mph, which means clean lines. This is intermediate territory, and with the swell pushing over 8 ft, it’s expert-only at its peak. It’s fairly consistent and can get crowds sometimes, but the quality will be worth it. That SW direction is exactly what this break prefers.
Monday morning (13 July) keeps the energy flowing with a 7 ft SW swell, 14-second period, and even lighter cross-off wind from the ENE at just 3 mph—near enough to glassy. Combined energy is 2324, still strong. This is described as excellent surf for experienced surfers, and I’d say it’s your best bet if the Sunday size has you second-guessing. The lines will be clean and powerful.
After Monday, the swell starts to fade, dropping to 6 ft by Tuesday morning (14 July) then 5 ft by Wednesday (15 July), with the wind turning cross-shore or cross-off but staying manageable. Still some clean windows, especially Wednesday morning (15 July) with a 5 ft SSW swell, 12-second period and ENE cross-off at 9 mph. Thursday (16 July) goes glassy on a 6 ft ESE swell—very pretty but the period drops to 9 seconds, so it’s less grunty.
There’s a bit of a gap from around Friday 17 July through to Saturday 18 July where the size drops right off and winds go cross-on, making it marginal at best. Then Sunday morning (19 July) throws up a tiny but glassy 3 ft SW groundswell with a long 16-second period, combined energy at 713 (weak). Nice for a longboard if you’ve got nothing else.
Then we hit a rough patch. From Monday 20 July through to Tuesday 21 July, we’ve got a big 8 ft SSW swell but it’s getting hammered by onshore and cross-on winds up to 19 mph. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing—closeouts and chop. That continues with messy cross-on conditions through Wednesday 22 July and Thursday 23 July, though the swell sits around 7-8 ft.
Friday 24 July sees a cleaner but small 4 ft SW groundswell with a very long 19-second period, combined energy at 1525 (moderate). Still cross-on wind though, so it’s not pristine.
The tail end of the period, Saturday 25 July morning, brings a 6 ft SW swell, 16-second period, with very light cross-shore wind from the east at 3 mph. Combined energy is 2383—strong again. It’s described as marginal but the ingredients are there for a fun session if the tide plays ball. After that, Sunday 26 July and Monday 27 July see size building back to 7-8 ft SW swells, but winds stay cross-on or cross-shore with moderate energy readings (2697-3694). Not the cleanest, but the swell’s there.
If I’m picking the standout, it’s Sunday morning (12 July) for sheer power and direction, with Monday morning (13 July) as the slightly smaller, cleaner alternative.
Rusty.
