Table - best surf conditions forecast for Riviere de Galets over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Riviere de Galets over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, the water here is sitting at 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a nice little bonus. But the surf story? It’s a bit of a slow burn. There’s some decent swell coming, but the wind is mostly cross or cross-off, so we’re not talking about perfect, clean perfection for most of the run. The first real standout is Sunday the 12th.
That Sunday morning, the wind is a cross-off from the ENE at 12 mph, leaving the waves clean. You’ve got a solid 8ft SW groundswell, with a period of 15 seconds – that’s proper long period energy. The combined energy is strong at 3567, so it’s got plenty of punch. This is a reef and point break, so that long period will wrap in nicely and give you some good shaped lines. It’s a bit on the bigger side, so intermediate and up will be in their element. The afternoon stays clean with a similar 8ft SW swell, but a slight drop in period to 14 seconds. Still, cross-off winds and that size? That’s your best window.
Before that, we have to deal with a few days of smaller, less inspiring stuff. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are a write-off with cross winds and messy conditions. Saturday the 11th has a decent 5ft – 6ft SW groundswell with a very long 16-second period, but the cross wind from the E at 12 mph is going to put a bit of a chop on the surface. It’s not terrible, but it’s not the Sunday.
After that Sunday, the wind swings more onshore and choppy on Monday the 13th, so that’s a skip. The rest of the week into the 18th is a mix of cross-off and cross winds with middling E swell, mostly in the 5ft to 7ft range. The energy is moderate, and the conditions are “clean” on a few mornings but never really setting the world on fire. It’s a surfable stretch, but nothing to get too excited about.
Now, looking into the second week, there’s a promising but less certain pulse starting Sunday the 19th. A strong SSW groundswell arrives with a very long 19-second period and combined energy of 1983. The wind is cross from the E at 12 mph, which is okay. That swell hangs around into Monday the 20th with 7ft SSW swell, but the wind picks up to a fresh 19 mph cross, making for a lumpy session. The real standout late in the run is Thursday the 24th. The combined energy hits 4044 with a 7ft SSW groundswell and a 16-second period, under cross winds. That’s serious energy for this spot. If you can get on it, it’ll be well worth it, but it’s a long way out.
A couple of big warnings: on Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd, the swell is predicted to be too big for the break, hitting 10ft. That’s expert-only territory, and with strong cross winds, it’s going to be a washing machine. Best to leave that one alone.
Overall, the best on offer is Sunday the 12th, with Thursday the 24th as a big, powerful option for the more experienced crew.
Rusty.
