Grandview Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Well, I gotta be straight with you – this outlook’s a rough one. We’ve got a solid two-week stretch ahead, but the surf is mostly poor, and there’s not a single standout session that’ll get your heart racing. The wave energy is moderate, but the wind is just about always on it or cross-onshore, making a mess of things.

Let’s start with what we’ve got. We’re looking at Grandview, a beach and reef set-up. Right now, August 5th, the water’s sitting at a very unusual 77°F, which is much warmer than average for this time of year – that’s a nice surprise. But the waves? Not so much. We’ve got a tiny 2 ft swell from the SW with a period of 14 seconds, but the wind is on it from the WSW at 6 mph. The combined energy is moderate at 173, but with winds like that, it’s just poor.

Moving through the week, things don’t improve. August 6th and 7th, the swell stays small – 2 ft to 2 ft – and the wind stays on it or cross-on. It’s frustrating because the swell period gets really good, hitting 19 seconds on the 7th morning (combined energy 448), which means it’s a long-period groundswell that would normally shape up nicely at a reef. But the wind’s just ruining it. That’s the story here: good energy, bad wind.

By August 9th, the swell tickles up to 3 ft, still long-period at 15 seconds, but the wind is cross-on from the SW at 9 mph, making it choppy. Same story August 10th. This pattern just keeps repeating. The second week picks up a bit more energy – August 14th and 15th see combined energy values over 700, with swell heights around 3 ft to 4 ft – but the wind is still onshore. It’s a marginal call at best, with the score barely lifting to a 1. It’s not worth getting wet for.

Honestly, for the whole 16-day window, there’s nothing that’s really pumping. All the surf is rated as poor or marginal. This is one of those quiet runs where you’re better off waiting for a change in the weather pattern. Sometimes it stays poor for a while, but forecasts can turn around. Not this time, though. Even the long-period swells are all wasted with onshore wind.

If you’re really itching for a paddle, maybe keep an eye on August 14th and 15th – the swell energy is strong, and if the wind ever backs off, those SW swells could deliver at the reef. But as it sits, it’s a kite-surfing kind of setup, not a paddle-surfing one.
