The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.

First up, I gotta be straight with you—this is a tough one. We're looking at a 16-day window for Goat Island Reef, and honestly, it's a real struggle. The spot is a sheltered, beginner-friendly beach and reef set-up that rarely breaks, and that's exactly what we're seeing. The first week is a total write-off, with next to nothing on offer. We're talking flat, weak swells with tiny energy readings and mostly cross or onshore winds. It's a long, boring gap for surfers.

The only glimmer of hope, and I mean the only one, shows up around Tuesday the 11th of August. That morning we get a pulse of 6ft swell from the north, with a 9-second period, producing moderate wave energy. The wind is cross-off from the ESE, which is decent, and the conditions are clean. It's a marginal surf forecast, but it's the best we'll see. The afternoon drops a bit to 5ft, still clean. Even then, it's not great, but for this spot, it's the standout.

Other than that, the rest of the run is mostly poor. There's a whiff of something on Friday the 14th of August morning with a 5ft NW swell and offshore wind, but it's short period and low energy. The rest is tiny, weak, or onshore. The water temp is sitting at 59°F, which is about average for the time of year, but you won't be in the water much anyway.

So, bottom line: if you're desperate, the 11th of August is your best bet. Otherwise, this is a blank run. For an area like this, it's not unusual for it to go quiet for a stretch. Keep an eye on the long-range forecasts, but for now, it's a waiting game.

Rusty.
