The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what Omaha Beach and Bar is offering over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, it’s a slow start. The first week is mostly flat and ugly. From Monday the 3rd through Saturday the 8th, there’s nothing worth suiting up for – six days of tiny 0.3ft swells, cross-off winds, and moderate breezes. Not a wave in sight.

Things finally turn on Sunday the 9th of August. That morning we’ve got a solid 8ft swell out of the NNW with a period of 7 seconds. Combined energy is 652 (moderate-strong) and with a light offshore wind from the west, it’s going to be clean. Now, that size is pushing into expert territory – over 8ft is for the experienced crew only. Sunday afternoon goes glassy with a 7ft northerly swell and zero wind – absolutely perfect conditions. That’s the standout of the whole window. The swell direction isn’t the ideal NE, but the wave quality and clean surface make it worth it. Omaha is a beach and reef setup, fairly consistent, but crowds are often a problem here, so get in early.

Monday the 10th goes downhill fast with onshore easterly winds gusting up to 19 mph and bumpy surf. The rest of the week is a mix of cross-shore breezes and ordinary conditions. By Thursday the 13th, we see a small 3ft NE swell with glassy conditions in the morning, but it’s barely surfable. Friday the 14th is similar – glassy start, 3ft NE swell, but nothing to get excited about.

From there, it’s back to tiny swells and onshore winds through the second week. No real highlights after that Sunday the 9th. If you’re keen, that one day is your shot. Otherwise, it’s a long wait.

Rusty.
